  • Compresses sensing (CS) technique is beneficial for reducing power consumption of biopotential acquisition circuits in wireless healthcare system. This paper investigates the maximum possible compress ratio for various biopotential signal when the CS technique is applied. By using the CS technique, we perform the compression and reconstruction of typical electrocardiogram(ECG), electromyogram(EMG), electroencephalogram(EEG) signals. By comparing the original signal and reconstructed signal, we determines the validity of the CS-based signal compression. Raw-biopotential signal is compressed by using a psuedo-random matrix, and the compressed signal is reconstructed by using the Block Sparse Bayesian Learning(BSBL) algorithm. EMG signal, which is the most sparse biopotential signal, the maximum compress ratio is found to be 10, and the ECG'sl maximum compress ratio is found to be 5. EEG signal, which is the least sparse bioptential signal, the maximum compress ratio is found to be 4. The results of this work is useful and instrumental for the design of wireless biopotential signal monitoring circuits.

  • This paper describes a method to identify objects for autonomous navigation of an outdoor mobile robot. To identify objects, the robot recognizes the object from an image taken by moving robot on outdoor environment. As a beginning, this paper presents the candidates for a segment of region to building of artificial object, sky and trees of natural objects. Then we define their characteristics individually. In the process, we segment the regions of the objects included by preprocessing using multiple features. Multiple features are HSI, line segments, context information, hue co-occurrence matrix, principal components and vanishing point. An analysis of building identifies the geometrical properties of building facet such as wall region, windows and entrance. The building as intersection in vertical and horizontal line segment of vanishing point extracts the mesh. The wall region of building detect by merging the mesh of the neighbor parallelograms that have similar colors. The property estimates the number of story and rooms in the same floors by merging skewed parallelograms of the same color. We accomplish the result of image segmentation using multiple features and the geometrical properties analysis of object through experiments.

  • In this paper, authors propose a new nonlinear rotor flux observer for rotor field oriented control of an induction motor which is designed based on the extended Luenberger Observer theory. Extended Luenberger Observer requires minimal solution of nonlinear partial differential equation on its coordinate transformation and linearization needed on a nonlinear observer design in general. The proposed rotor flux observer is derived from the 2 phase model of induction motor on the orthogonal coordination and it has the reduce gain matrix. Simulation and experimentation were performed under the conventional indirect vector control and direct vector control with the proposed observer at different rotor resistance. Simulation results show that the convergence of the proposed observer is influenced by the chosen eigenvalues. Experimentation results on load operation show the direct vector control with the proposed observer is better than the indirect vector control to maintain the characteristics of the vector control.

  • RT/IMPOST is an effective algorithm that can realize real-time internal metering policy (IMP) using queue information from loop detector and signal control strategies. In this paper, an investigation was made to adopt the IMP methodology within COSMOS environments in terms of communication environment and control time point. Through the analysis of the communication environment of COSMOS and communication and control steps in RT/IMPOST, a set of applicable alternative were developed and evaluated. Then, one of the alternatives was selected, and performance of the alternative was compared with RT/IMPOST system using a simulation technique. Results showed that two techniques produced the similar performance. Therefore, the method suggested in this paper was evaluated as a practically viable alternative.

  • In this paper, the design method of a waveguide broad-wall longitudinal slot array monopulse antenna of X-type monopulse axes is presented, and the method is verified through manufacture and measurement. In the antenna design of this paper, the antenna size is small and the monopulse axes are X-type. Thus, the common continuous aperture distribution fuction is not suitable and the power balance among antenna quadrants should be considered. Also, since the waveguide height is reduced into 0.1 wavelength, the modelling of the slot characteristics is not simple. Thus, in this paper, the aperture distribution is optimized by using random number, and the balance among the quadrants is achieved by applying the quadrant weighting factor during the aperture optimization process. Also, the moment method procedure is accelerated by applying the interpolation technique to some part of the moment matrix, and the moment method procedure is added to the array synthesis program as a subroutine so that the slot characteristics can be calculated directly when it is required. Based on this method, a antenna of 28dBi is designed and manufactured. It is found that the antenna characteristics is similar to design data.

  • Because of the enormous processing ability, General-Purpose Graphics Processing Unit(GPGPU) has been applied to many fields including electronics design automation. The SAT algorithm is one of the core algorithm in many electronics design automation tools. There has been some efforts to apply GPGPU to the SAT algorithm, but it is difficult to parallelize the SAT algorithm because of its characteristics. In this paper, I applied GPGPU to the SAT algorithm by parallelizing the propagation routine that is relatively suitable to parallel processing. On the basis of the similarity of the propagation routine to the sparse matrix multiplication, the data structure for the SAT problem is constituted, and the parallel propagation routine is described. To prevent data loss between paralllel threads, atomic operations are exploited. The experimental results for some benchmark SAT problems show that the proposed algorithm is superior to the previous GPGPU-based SAT solver.

  • For OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) systems, 2-D MMSE (2-Dimensional Minimum Mean Square Error) channel estimation provides optimal performance in frequency/time selective fading channel environment. However, the 2-D MMSE channel estimation has high computational complexity due to the large matrix size, because the 2-D MMSE channel estimation considers time as well as frequency axis for channel estimation. To reduce the computational complexity, we propose a modified 2-D MMSE channel estimator which is based on 1-D MMSE channel estimation with weighted sum. Furthermore, we consider RMS delay spread and Doppler frequency estimation for 2-D MMSE channel estimation. We show that the proposed method can significantly reduce computational complexity as well as that it can perform close to 2-D MMSE channel estimation.

  • Mechanical properties of cancellous bone with a high porosity and cortical bone with a high fraction of solid are estimated by the measurement of ultrasonic wave propagation. The speed of sound (SOS) in ultrasonic waves is usually measured by two equations, bulk wave equation and bar wave equation. Bulk wave speed has almost same as the fast wave of Biot's theory. In this study, we examine whether the bulk wave speed is influenced by the anisotropy of bone matrix. The SOS when the bone matrix is isotropy is 0.69% faster than that when the bone matrix is transversely isotropy. We also examine if the use of bar equation is adequate for a cortical bone. In the previous paper, the bar wave speed is a function of Young's modulus or elastic coefficient tensor. In the same manner, the effect of bar wave speed to isotropic and anisotropic bone is estimated.

  • Adversarial attack, which geneartes adversarial data to make target model misclassify the input data, is able to confuse real life applications of classification models and cause severe damage to the classification system. An Black-box adversarial attack learns a substitute model, which have similar decision boundary to the target model, and then generates adversarial data with the substitute model. Jacobian-based data augmentation is used to synthesize the training data to learn substitutes, but has a drawback that the data synthesized by the augmentation get distorted more and more as the training loop proceeds. We suggest data augmentation with 'decay factor' to alleviate this problem. The result shows that attack success rate of our method is higher(around 8.5%) than the existing method.
