Experiments were performed to investigate the effects of the different anesthetic MS-222 and lidocaine-HCl doses on the blood physiological responses, on the time required for anesthesia and recovery, and on the survival rates of black rockfish (Sebastes schlegeli). Plasma cortisol was its highest levels (96.1$\pm$12.1 ng/ml) at 6 hours after the administration of 300 ppm of MS-222, and in all groups, plasma cortisol levels were higher than the initial levels during the anesthetic experiment. Fish receiving lidocaine-HCl also exhibited higher than initial plasma cortisol levels at almost experimental intervals. The middle size fish exhibited the highest glucose level (143.3$\pm$14.5 mg/dl) at 50 ppm of anesthesia after 1 hour, and every level was significantly higher than the initial level for at least 12 hours. Glucose levels in fish to which lidocaine-HCl was administered were comparable to the levels seen in conjunction with MS-222 treatment. In fish anesthetized with MS-222, K+ levels in the small size fish were significantly elevated after 1 hour, while Na+ levels did not change in any of the groups throughout the experiment. Anesthetic time was significantly attenuated with increases in the concentrations of MS-222 and lidocaine-HCl. We also noted a correlation between anesthetic time and fish size, in that larger fish took a longer time, followed by the middle size and then the small size fish. The all fish size groups showed above $95\%$ survival rates at every experimental concentration in MS-222 and 300-400 ppm in lidocaine-HCl. The results may indicate that 100-200 ppm MS-222 and 400 ppm lidocaine-HCl are the most effective doses as sedatives for the black rockfish and these doses could be used as the suitable anesthetics doses.

Objective : This study was to find out the level of sensory process type, adult attachment and interpersonal problems on university students and then to investigate the correlation. Methods : For this study, 169 students who don't know about the evaluation tool in university students of K area in Korea were participated. To execute evaluation, Adolescents/Adults Sensory Profile (AASP) was used for the sensory process type, Short Form of the Korean Inventory of Interpersonal Problems Circumplex Scale (KIIP-SC) was used for interpersonal problems, and Experiences in Close Relationships Scale-Revised (ECR-R) was used for the adult attachment. The correlation between sensory process type and interpersonal problems, adult attachment was analyzed by using pearson correlation analysis. Results : Sensory process type of university students appeared that sensory seeking was lower than general people, and the rest of items showed similar results with general people. For interpersonal problems, there was a lot of difficulty in self-sacrificing and overly accommodating, whereas there was a little difficulty in vindictive and domineering / controlling. For adult attachment, attachment avoiding was more stable than attachment anxiety. Also, low registration and sensory sensitivity all showed positive correlation with interpersonal problems and adult attachment. Among interpersonal problems, self-sacrificing and intrusive showed positive correlation with sensory seeking whereas cold, socially inhibited, nonassertive, and overly accommodating showed positive correlation with sensory avoiding. Thus, sensory seeking and sensory avoiding showed different results (p<.05). Conclusion : In occupational therapy clinic, not only the disabled but non-disabled people that experience issue of interpersonal problems and attachment could be helped with managing high quality social activity if they execute intervention according to sensory process type.

Epidermal hydration is mainly maintained by natural moisturizing factors (NMFs). Of these various NMFs, free amino acids (AAs) are major constituents generated by filaggrin degradation. The reduction of these AAs has been reported in aging skin induced during menopause. In this study, we examined whether the dietary supplementation of royal jelly (RJ) during the pre- and post-menopausal period alters epidermal levels of filaggrins, free AAs, and peptidylarginine deiminase-3 (PAD-3) (an enzyme involved in filaggrin degradation processes). Sprague Dawley rats were divided into five groups: groups fed a control diet for 12 weeks, in which an ovariectomy (OVX) or sham operation (SHAM) were underwent at week 4; groups fed a diet with 1% RJ harvested in different area of Korea (RJ1 and RJ2); and a group fed a diet with isoflavone (IF), the typical functional food for menopause prevention, for 4 weeks before and 8 weeks after an ovariectomy operation. In the epidermis of group OVX, total filaggrins (including profilaggrin and filaggrin) were reduced; these levels in groups RJ1 and IF were similar or less than in group OVX. However, total AAs, which showed no apparent difference between groups SHAM and OVX, were highly increased in groups RJ1 and IF. Specifically, aspartate (Asp) and proline (Pro), the major AAs in functioning NMF, were highly increased in group RJ1. Although total filaggrins, profilaggrin, filaggrin and PAD3 increased, total AAs (including Asp and Pro) in group RJ2 were modest or less than in group RJ1. The PAD3 alteration was not apparent among the four other groups. Taken together, we demonstrate that the diet supplementation of RJ1 enhanced filaggrin degradation (but not through the increased protein expression of PAD3), and increased total AAs, Asp and Pro. RJ1 could be a dietary supplementation for preventing the skin aging induced during menopause.

The general components and cyclitol compounds of ice plant (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum) were analyzed to examine the possibility of using extracts as functional food materials, the antioxidant effects and antidiabetic activities of the extracts by solvent fraction were tested. Among the mineral contents, contents of K and Na were the largest ($1,213.33{\pm}2.52$ and $545.53{\pm}12.01mg/100g$, respectively), followed by S, Ca, P, and Mg in order of precedence. Among cyclitol compounds, content of D-pinitol was the largest ($4.04{\pm}0.08mg/g$) while contents of chiro-inositol and myo-inositol were relatively small ($2.82{\pm}0.01$ and $0.25{\pm}0.01mg/g$, respectively). Among total phenol contents by solvent fraction, contents of chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions were large ($35.80{\pm}1.33$ and $23.70{\pm}0.62mg\;GAE/g$, respectively). Among antioxidant activity levels examined by DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, and lipid/MA assays, the chloroform fraction commonly showed the highest level of activity while the ethyl acetate fraction showed relatively high levels of activity. The antioxidant activity levels were proportional to total phenol contents by solvent fraction. As for antidiabetic effects, all solvent fractions showed at least 50% ${\alpha}-glucosidase$ inhibitory activity levels while the ethyl acetate, butanol, and chloroform fractions showed high levels activity of $90.33{\pm}0.40$, $87.98{\pm}0.16$, and $86.38{\pm}0.51%$, respectively. The ${\alpha}-amylase$ inhibitory actively levels were in the range of $25.63{\pm}1.45{\sim}60.34{\pm}2.67%$, which was lower than the ${\alpha}-glucosidase$ inhibitory activity levels, but the inhibitory activity levels by solvent fraction were similar. Given the above study results, ice plant can be utilized as a natural material with antioxidative and antidiabetic functionality.
Nowadays, mongolian gerbil is widely utilized in the research of brain and water deprivation because of congenitally incomplete Willis' circle, audiogenic seizure in low noise, and special cholesterol metabolism without water absorption for a long time. In this study, we intended to identify the time lapse changes in the general morphoogy and ultrastructure of the catecholaminergic neurons of mongolian gerbil brain in after long-term water deprivation. Fifteen mongolian gerbils were divided into 3 groups (5, 10, and 20-day water deprivation groups), each with 5 mongolian gerbils. Additional 5 mongolian gerbils which received water without limitation were used as a control. The brain sections were immunostained using tyrosine hysroxylase (TH), $ dopamine-\beta-hydroxylase$ (DBH), and phenylethanolamine-N-methyltrasferase (PMNT) antibodies. And immunoreactive cells were observed by electromicroscopy for the ultrastructural changes . The TH-immunoreactive (TH-IR) nerve cells were observed in the para- and peri-ventricular nucleus of the 3 rd ventricle in the hypothalamus and the substantia nigra. The number of TH-IR neurons in these areas was decreased from the 5th day of the water deprivation to the 10 th day and reincreased until 20 th day water deprivation. The shape and density of the dopamine-secreting cells identified by immunohistochemistry showed changes in the continuous water deprivation. Electron microscopy revealed a round nucleus in the neurons of control group but 5-day water deprivation group showed a dense and irregularly shaped nucleus. Also in the 5-day water-deprived group, mitochondria was decreased in number and junctins were disappered. Endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi complex did not show changes after water-deprivation. In this results, we can conclude that dopamine are involved in the water metabolism in mongolian gerbil, and mongolian gerbil could be used as an animal model for the researches of water deprivation.
This experiment was conducted to assess genetic diversity of waxy corn inbred lines and to identify SSR markers related to major characteristics affected kernel quality for improving waxy corn $F_1$ hybrid with good quality. Diversity of 64 waxy com inbred lines was evaluated using 30 microsatellite markers. The 30 microsatellite markers representing 30 loci in the maize genome detected polymorphisms among the 64 inbred lines and revealed 225 alleles with a mean of 7.5 alleles per primer. The polymorphism Information content (PIC) value ranged from 0.14 to 0.87, with an average of 0.69. Based on Nei's genetic distances, the 64 inbred lines were classified into 9 groups by the cluster analysis. The group I included 26 inbred lines (41%), other groups included 3 to 9 inbred lines. One-way analysis of variance was conducted to identify significant relationship between individual markers and major characteristics that affect kernel quality. The analysis showed that umc1019 was related to amylopectin and crude protein content, me 1020 to amylopectin content and peak viscosity, and bnlg1537 to 100-kernel weight, kernel length, and kernel width.

Cretaceous intrusive and extrusive rocks are widely distributed in the southwestern part of the Korean peninsula, possibly the result of intensive magmatism which occurred in response to subduction of the western proto-Pacific plate beneath the north-eastern part of the Eurasian plate. Geochemical and petrological study on the Cretaceous granitic rocks were carried out in order to constrain the petrogenesis of the granitic magma and to establish the paleotectonic environment of the area. Whole rock chemical data of the granitic rocks from the study area indicate that the all the rocks have characteristics of calc-alkaline series in the subalkaline field. The overall geochemical features show systematic variations in each granitic body, but the source materials of each granitic body are thought to have been different in their chemical composition. Higher values of $Fe_2O_3/FeO$ of the granitic rocks in the western area suggest that the granitoids had been solidified under highly oxidizing environment. The granitic bodies in the eastern area also show higher contents of Li, Ni, Co, Sr, Cr, Sc and lower Rb and Nb compared to the those of the western area. Chondrite normalized REE patterns show generally enriched LREE and strong negative Eu anomalies in the western wet while slight to flat Eu anomalies in the east-ern area. The REE and $(La/Lu)_{CN}$ of the granites are $60{\~}499ppm$ and $8.9{\~}66$ correspond to the range of the continental margin granite. On the ANK vs. ACNK and tectonic discrimination diagrams, parental magma type of the granites corresponds to I-type, VAG and syn-collision granite. Interpretations of the chemical characteristics of the granitic rocks favor their emplacement in a compressional tectonic regime at continental margin during the subduction of proto-Pacific plate.
This study was carried out to investigate changes of microbiological and sensory properties in various heat-treated market milks (LTLT, HTST, and UHT milks) stored at 10$^{\circ}C$ during 15d. Titratable acidity (TA) increased with storage, while pH tended to decrease. During the initial 9d, no difference was found in TA, however, after 9d, it was slightly higher in HTST and UHT milks than that in LTLT milk. In LTLT and HTST milks, total viable cells and psychrotrophs were dramatically increased during storage, In addition coliform and pathogenic bacteria were found at 12 and 15d. In UHT milk, total viable cells were found only at 15d. In sensory evaluation, LTLT and HTST milks developed a negligible off-flavor until 9d. At 12d, it became stronger in HTST milk than that in LTLT milk. In UHT milk, off-flavor was detected at 9d and increased rapidly there-after. The degree of off-flavor was little higher in HTST and UHT milks, compared with that of LTLT milk after 9d storage. These observations indicated that LTLT and HTST milks may not be microbiologically acceptable after 5d, while off-flavor was not detectable until 9d, In comparison, UHT milk keeps a good quality in microorganism until 15d, however, it may not be accepted in sensory aspect after 9d storage.
Physicochemical characteristics and antioxidative activity were measured to investigate the possibility for functional characteristics of Pleurotus eryngii and its by-products. By-products of Pleurotus eryngii were classified with mushroom, fungal body and fermented mushroom by-product. Moisture was the highest in fermented mushroom by-product and crude protein was 1.72%, in mushroom. Crude fiber content was less than 10% except the fungal body by-product. Mineral content appeared to be the highest in the fermented mushrooom with a value of 3,696.1 mg/100 g, and potassium was a predominant mineral in Pleurotus eryngii as well as its by-products. Amino acid content was the highest in mushroom with a level of 989.59 mg/100 g. DPPH radical scavenging ability of the fermented mushroom was the highest, and its methanol extract and water extract exhibited $64.07{\pm}0.23%$ and $76.27{\pm}1.46%$ of scavenging activity at a concentration of 10 mg/ml. Reducing power was significantly higher in the fermented mushroom in comparison with those of the mushroom, mushroom by-product, and fungal body by-product. The reducing power of the water extract of fermented mushroom was the highest with a value of $2.22{\pm}0.03$. SOD-like activities for the individual samples except the fungal body by-product were higher than 50% at a concentration of 10 mg/ml. The hydroxyl radical scavenging abilities of the individual samples except the fungal body by-product were over 50%. Nitrite scavenging effects were better in pH 2.5 than in pH 4.0. While the nitrite scavenging effects of methanol extracts were $42.93{\pm}1.71{\sim}72.97{\pm}2.18%$, those of the water extracts were $57.66{\pm}1.80{\sim}81.07{\pm}0.81%$. Antioxidative activity of the fermented mushroom appeared to be the highest among the mushroom by-products. Taken together, these results provide an insight into utilization of the mushroom by-products as materials for functional foods and animal feed.

This experiment was conducted using 350 Lohmann Brown layers (67 weeks of age) to evaluate the dietary effect of organic or inorganic Se and Cu on their contents in chicken eggs. The layers were divided into seven groups and fed a commercial diet or one of the six experimental diets containing different levels of Se and Cu (T1, 0.3ppm organic Se; T2, 1.0ppm organic Se; T3, 1.0ppm inorganic Se; T4, 125ppm organic Cu; T5, 250ppm organic Cu; and T6, 250ppm inorganic Cu) for 5 weeks. No significant differences were observed in egg production and its qualities among groups. The contents of blood cholesterol in the birds fed various levels of Se and Cu were not significantly different as compared to control. Se contents in eggs were linearly increased as dietary Se levels increased for both sources, but Se contents from the groups fed organic Se were slightly higher than those fed inorganic Se. Sensory characteristics of eggs were not influenced by dietary treatments. In conclusion, Se contents in eggs were linearly increased as dietary levels of organic or inorganic Se increased, but eggs in layers fed the diet containing organic Se did not show higher Se contents than those in birds fed dietary inorganic Se.
