  • Thermal stress analysis of a planar anode-supported SOFC considering electrochemical reactions has been performed under operating conditions where average current density varies from 0 to 2000 $A/m^2$. For the case of the 2000 $A/m^2$ operating condition, Structural stress analysis based on the temperature distributions obtained from the CFD analysis of the unit cell has also been done. From this one way Fluid-Structure Interaction(FSI) analysis, Maximum Von-Mises stress under negligible temperature gradient fields occurs when cell components are perfectly bonded. The maximum stress of the electrolyte, cathode and anode in a unit cell SOFC is 262.58MPa, 28.55MPa and 15.1MPa respectively. The maximum thermal stress is critically dependent on static friction coefficient.

  • The computation of normal depth is very important for the design of channel and the analysis of water flow. Drainage pipe generally has the shape of curvature like circular or U-type, which is different from artificial triangular or rectangular channel. In this case, the computation of normal depth or the derivation of equations is very difficult because the change of hydraulic radius and area versus depth is not simple. If the ratio of the area to the diameter, or the hydraulic radius to the diameter of pipe is expressed as the water depth to the diameter of pipe by power law, however, the process of computing normal depth becomes relatively simple, and explicit equations can be obtained. In the present study, developed are the explicit normal depth equations for circular and U-type pipes, and the normal depth equation associated with Hagen (Manning) equation and friction factor equation of smooth turbulent flow by power law is also proposed because of its wide usage in engineering design.

  • High permeable faults are important geological structures for fluid flow, energy, and solute transport. Therefore, high permeable faults play an important role in the formation of hydrothermal fluid (or hot spring), high heat flow, and hydrothermal ore deposits. We conducted 2-D coupled thermal and hydraulic modeling to examine thermohydraulic behavior in fault zones with various permeabilities and geometric conditions. The results indicate discharge temperature in fault zones increases with increasing fault permeability. In addition, discharge temperature in fault zones is linearly correlated with Peclet number ($R^2=0.98$). If Peclet number is greater than 1, discharge temperature in fault zones can be higher than $32^{\circ}C$. In this case, convection is dominant against conduction for the heat transfer in fault zones.

  • A valve product can be over-designed or too heavy. Finite element analysis was performed using ANSYS for two and three-dimensional ball valve models, and the ball weight was reduced by optimization within the allowable design criteria. The ball is structurally safe according to the computed stress values, which are within the material's admissible stress. The weight was reduced by about 22%, and the structural safety factor was 1.25. The structural safety of the seat insert and ring, which are used to prevent leakage, was confirmed through finite element analysis. It is shown that the two-dimensional analysis can result in similar values to the three-dimensional analysis for the axisymmetric structure. The redesign of the valve is not included in the results since such changes require a whole new design process, including all valve components.

  • The main purpose of the ball valve ball is to be moved by the rotation of the stem when fully open or completely closed. In this study the heat of the initial model, which used a structure interaction analysis technique, tried to examine the structural safety of the high temperature for the ball valve. In the initial model the stress of the exiting sheet was more than the yield strength. We selected two design shapes with variables of length and thickness for the optimization of the sheet. The Kriging interpolation method was applied to a meta-model-based optimization technique. As a result, it was possible to find a thickness and length for the sheet within the yield strength. This was done by measuring the value of the capacity coefficient of the valve and evaluating the performance of the ball valve.

  • A ballast-flying probabilitie is suggested for various ballast types, heighter types and underbody flow conditions as train speeds. The average speed of measured points is converted to the ballast-flying probabilities of BFPF which come from wind tunnel test data. Underbody flow fields are numerically simulated for the various conditions. The results show that the ballast-flying probability is steeply increased as train speed increased, and reaches a value of 87% at 350 km/h train speed. And the differences of probabilities among the ballast shapes are considerably high. The upper surface of heighter or tie is most probable area. Through this study, the ballast-flying Sensitivities with heighter was defined to understand the characteristics of ballast-flying probability on various conditions. And the ballast-flying probability can be reduced by the heighter.

  • This study has tried to develop the modified DRASTIC Model by supplying the parameters, such as structural lineament density and landuse, into conventional DRASTIC medal, and to predict the potential of groundwater contamination using GIS in Whanam 2 Area, Gyeonggi Province, Korea. Since the aquifers in Korea is generally through the joints of rock-mass in hydrogeological environment, lineament denisity affects to the behavior of goundwater and contaminated plumes directly, and land-use reflect the effect of point or non-point source of contamination indirectly. For the statistical analysis, lattice layers of each parameter were generated, and then level of confidence was assessed by analyzing each correlation coefficient. Composite contamination map was achieved as a final result by comparing modified DRASTIC potential and the amount of generation load of several contaminant sources logically. The result could suggest the predictability of the area of contamination potrntial in the respects of hydrogeological aspect and water quality.

  • For detection and localization of leaks in closed vessels or pipes carrying liquid flow, $^{51}$ Cr-EDTA and $^{51}$ Cr-DTPA were synthesized and, the column and batch equilibrium experiments were carried out. In the column experiment, the recovery of $^{51}$ Cr-EDTA is 100% in quartz sand and 80.9% in steel sawdust, and that of $^{51}$ Cr-DTPA is 77.4% in quartz sand and 6.4% in steel sawdust. The recovery curve. $^{51}$ Cr-DTPA system in steel sawdust does not show a certain plateau, exceptionally. In general, $^{51}$ Cr-EDTA is adsorbed less than $^{51}$ Cr-DTPA. In the batch equilibrium experiment, the distribution coefficients (Kd) and effect of pH were investigated by using quartz sand, montmorillonite, steel sawdust, and mixed cement raw material as media. In general, the Kd values for $^{51}$ Cr-EDTA are lower than that of $^{51}$ Cr-DTPA. The Kd values for $^{51}$ Cr-EDTA are almost zero at pH 6.0, 7.0, and 8.0.

  • With the advent of new technologies such as HSDPA, WiBro(Wireless Broadband) and personal devices, we can access various contents and services anytime and anywhere. A location based service(LBS) is essential for providing personalized services with individual location information in ubiquitous computing environment. In this paper, we propose mapping algorithm for error compensation of indoor localization system. Also we explain filter and indoor localization system. we have developed mapping algorithms composed of a map recognition method and a position compensation method. The map recognition method achieves physical space recognition and map element relation extraction. We improved the accuracy of position searching. In addition, we reduced position errors using a dynamic scale factor.

  • Wicks play an important role in determining the thermal performance of heat pipes. Foam-type wicks are known to have good potential for enhancing the capillary performance of conventional types of wicks, and this is because of their high porosity and permeability. In this study, we develop an analytic expression for predicting the permeability of a foam-type wick based on extensive numerical work. The proposed correlation is based on the modified Kozeny-Carman's equation, where the Kozeny-Carman coefficient is given as an exponential function of porosity. The proposed correlations are shown to predict the previous experimental results well for an extensive parametric range. The permeability of the foam-type wick is shown to be significantly higher than that of conventional wicks because of their high porosity.
