Universal design is an approach to create environments and products that recognizes the diversity of users, regardless of their ability or age. Recently, old person and disabled person rapidly go on increasing in number. So, universal design concept becomes more and more important in product and environment, etc. In this study, we dealt with the universal design problem of microwave oven considering old persons. New design model for microwave oven was developed and evaluated using human factors approach. The principles of universal design was developed through literature survey and questionnaire survey for old persons, and then design alternatives were developed according to these principles. Two experiments were performed in this study. The purpose of the first experiment was to select final design alternative and the experiment was performed using rapid prototypes. The second one was a usability testing for the real model of final alternative. In this experiment, the real model was compared with the existing real product. As the result, the new design model was a little more excellent than the existing model in usability.

In 1999, the origin concept of blog was introduced in America for sharing information, from the end of 2002. It appealed to people in Korea and also has been developed from the original blog style to the advanced style combining social network service, the reason of unique evolution in Korean blog style is on what the cultural communication method has influenced. Nowadays world is smaller and distance between countries is more and more close than before, by that reason designer peruses global design, but we realize that the globalization should consider local society through blog, therefore this study presents the method of communication and cultural attribute and human relationship that made by old tradition by the means of criticism focused on local culture.

The purpose of this study is to suggest areas for improvement of KakaoTalk. KakaoTalk is used by everyone in Korea, and even elementary school students have been using it a lot recently. Therefore, to help parents feel safe about their children using KakaoTalk, and to ensure that children are not worried about their parents when using them, I would like to examine each user's experience to pinpoint the problem. As a method of study, a survey and interview was conducted on eight parents and eight children using KakaoTalk. Through this, the parents could not trust KakaoTalk in terms of reliability when they saw their children using KakaoTalk. Based on this research, we hope to improve KakaoTalk through further research so that parents and children can use Kakao Talk safely.

Furniture is an essential element in the area of human residence, and the necessity of system furniture suitable for the pursuit of unity in design, which clearly distinguishes the various and flexible arrangements and characteristics of space, is gradually expanding. The elderly population in Korea currently exceeds 15%, and is expected to be close to 40% by 2050. An increasing number of elderly generations are showing different behavioral patterns, such as sharing information, health care, and seeking independence from children. In order to maintain an independent daily life, a stable living environment has become essential, but as a result of a study that safety accidents caused by households increase due to a decrease in cognitive ability and physical ability, the need for a suitable household has increased. Therefore, the biological changes and characteristics of the elderly were investigated, and the concept definition, scope and limitations of system households were studied. In addition, by grasping the changes in the home appliance market and trends in the home appliance market, the design direction of system furniture required by the elderly was presented.

In this paper, to invigorate elderly-friendly industry, a case study on curriculum for re-educational work of the field engineers is introduced. The curriculum has been developed to retrain technicians and engineers in IT-based elderly-friendly business industry, to help them develop elderly-friendly products, and it have been evolved by operating it and analyzing outcome and satisfaction levels since August in 2009. The re-education work of the field engineers are designed for invigorating the IT-based elderly-friendly business industry, based on the instruction system design(ISD) model. To develop IT-based elderly-friendly products, the elderly-friendly accessible design and the elderly-friendly living and health care equipment design are required. For the elderly-friendly accessible design, it consists of "Elderly-Friendly Engineering Based on Human Characteristics", "Color Sensibility and Universal Design for The Elderly", and "Design Understanding and Process". For the elderly-friendly living and health care equipment design, it consists of "Embedded System Design and Debugging Experiments for Elderly-Friendly IT Equipment", "Elderly-Friendly Android Implementation Design", and "Design and Experiments of Silver-care Android-based Smart Equipment".

There are life-style and many different cultural differences between countries. Among them, food is different from other areas. Especially, if Food Tools are used by food type, even though the design factor is same, the function is different. Therefore, research and development of a Food Tool design is necessary to use a Universal Food Tool between countries. The purpose of this research is to develop a behavior analysis process for food, finding similarities and differences by food type; and cultural differences between countries; and to propose a design Food Tool design that can be used between countries. This research on methods and content is for the development of the consumer behavior analysis process about food, grafting theoretical studies about behavior analysis and working behavior analysis on the spot, to develop a food action analysis process. Second, do comparative analysis process of food order and evaluation between countries; and think about the problems and symptoms, then propose methods to resolve the problems. Third, each process is divided by category, to find the features by each category of foods between countries. Results may be obtained through research and the comparative analysis of each country's, foods, behavior and restaurant types. Specifically, researchers can use food tool design to obtain results and compare the same items between countries, compare university design education, and create new ideas through cooperation and complementary research.

A gradual increase in the number of people with disabilities and the elderly in our everyday life has changed our perceptions toward them. The concept of barrier free space has been gradually incorporated into the social system and into our everyday life, and has further developed into the universal design concept so that creating an environment where all inhabitants of a city are able to enjoy the space of everyday life. Against this backdrop, this study has conducted research on how to improve the accessibility of major public spaces in Wonju, Chuncheon, and Gangneung, or major metropolitan cities of Gangwon Province. The research has been conducted under the assumption that the conditions of utilizing public spaces in those cities will not meet public expectations compared to private spaced despite being iconic cities of Gangwon Province. The field survey results show that the concept of barrier free space is reflected, to some extent, in planning and development although its role in terms of using such space is not up to expectations. In particular, the buildings and facilities built prior to the enforcement of relevant policies are found to leave much to be desired due to unsatisfactory development plans between architecture and urban public space, which necessitates improvement on relevant policies, sincere efforts of local governments, and practical guidelines that can be useful in the implementation stage. Above all, building owners and public administrations are advised to raise their awareness on the concept of universal design so that it is firmly rooted in our everyday life as one of the universal values. It should lead to the efforts of the members of local cities in providing the environment where people are able to enjoy these utilities from the perspective of promoting public welfare.

A few people are frequently using Korean text entry function in the mobile phone. To make matters worse, too many kinds of Korean text entry methods exist in the market, compelling mobile phone users to learn how to input texts all over again, whenever they purchase a new mobile phone. The purpose of this study is to propose a universal design of Korean text entry method for mobile phones. Several experiments and several questionnaire surveys were conducted in order to induce design factors for the universal design. Participants were mobile phone users with the diverse levels of text entry expertise and with the diverse ages. The results of this investigation were identical, irrespective of participants' age and expertise. The efficiency of the text entry method was not more important factor than memorability. The layout of vowels to keypad was preferred to map just 3 strokes to the 3 buttons so that users can make for themselves vowels that they want to input. The preference on the consonants layout was different according to investigation methods. According to the survey, it was preferred that consonants were arranged by alphabet order. However, the result of text entry speed measurement was that the arrangement by alphabet order was not superior to the typical arrangement. Such results may be used to design mobile phones for diverse users.

The physical disabled are using various types of assistive devices and reading assistance device is have been researched and development. After all reading assistance device which being marketed present for the physical disabled's features is simply limited to turing the page. In this paper, Implemented prototype model of the reading assistance device for the physical disabled that is have designed to modify to improve the success rate of turing page and conjunction with mobile devices such as PDA to provide more convenient and useful features. And not only for the disabled then take a look at Universal design concept of view of the tool can be useful the public also.

최근 들어 정부의 적극적인 지원책에 힘입어 전통적인 축산농장의 환경을 스마트 축사로 개선하는 사업이 다양하게 추진되고 있다. 이에 축산농장의 스마트화를 위해 다양한 축산용 ICT 기기들이 개발되어 도입되고 있고, 클라우드기반의 인터넷환경까지 연결되고 있으나, 이러한 ICT 기기들을 사용하여 스마트 축사를 구축하고 운영하는데, 편의성 측면에서나 효율성 측면에서 어려움을 겪는 경우가 다수 발생하고 있다. 이 문제를 해결하기 위해, 축산 현장에서 사용자의 편의성 측면을 고려하여 축산현장 정보를 기록하는 스마트 블랙박스 시스템을 개발하고, 효율성을 고려하여 이 시스템을 위한 지능형 시스템 관제 플랫폼을 개발하였다. 그리고 현장상황에서 실증평가를 통해 축산 인들이 현장에서 축산 ICT 기기를 쉽고, 안전하게 운영하도록 하도록 사용자 환경을 구축하였다. 본 논문에서는 개발된 스마트 축산 ICT 블랙박스 시스템(Smart.Dx)과 IoT센서 수집용 게이트웨이(Smart.Dn), 그리고 클라우드 데이터 분석 솔루션(Smart.Center)을 기술한다. 이 연구내용은 또한 축산업에 종사하는 고령자나 스마트폰 환경에 익숙하지 않은 사용자 환경 특성을 고려하여, 유니버셜 디자인의 7대 원칙을 지원하고 있다.
