The recent diversification of society surrounding libraries is influencing the services of libraries. This study suggested the directions of public library services from the aspect of the universal design based on the analysis of related systems and cases to provide all users with universal services in accord with the nature of public libraries amid rapidly changing social environment. This study suggests four directions: the "universal design" which is the keyword for pursuing universality of public library services; the pursuit of economic value of public library services based on the universal design; the universal design for the improvement of perception of public library services; change in policies and systems related to public library services through the application of the universal design.

Elementary schools in Korea need to create an environment for integrated education and transform into school facilities that are central to the local community. This study assessed the level of universal design application in the physical environment of elementary schools based on the seven principles of universal design in order to create an environment in which all users, including elementary school students, can access and use school facilities equally. For this aim, field research was conducted on 243 elementary schools, and facilities with low application level were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, in order to apply the principle of 'flexibility in use', the rotating handle on the side of the toilet, which is used by the wheelchair user in the way the toilet is accessed, must be installed in a top-to-bottom rotational manner. In order to improve the applicability of the 'low physical effort' principle, it is necessary to select land and apply the plan from the beginning of the design.

본 논문은 부산의 대표적 송도해수욕장를 주요 연구대상으로 하여, 해수욕장내의 편의시설물과 유니버설디자인 간의 관계를 파악 하고자 한다. 사례에서 관련된 편의시설물의 유형에 대한 분석을 통해 편의시설물의 추후 발전 추이를 발견하고 미래의 디자인 방향에 참고를 제공 한다. 문헌고찰로 편의시설물 개념, 유니버설디자인 개념 및 평가요소 등을 전반적으로 이해하고 연구하여, 현장조사로 송도해수욕장내의 편의시설물 현황 파악한다. 현재 송도해수욕장의 유니버설디자인이 적용된 편의시설물의 특성 중에서는 사용성, 접근성요소가 가장 많이 적용된 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 수용성, 안전성요소가 부족함에 따라 다양한 옵션이 제공된 시설물에 대한 개발 및 연구가 필요하다.

For public libraries to deliver appropriate information to various types of users in information society that allows people to access and use a variety of information, it is necessary to provide services applying the universal design principles in terms of universality. The purpose of this study is to develop the evaluation indicators for universality of public library services, which apply universal design principles to evaluate if public libraries provide appropriate services that meet their original purpose. The final 'Evaluation Indicators of Universality of Public Library Services' consist of six evaluation areas and 41 evaluation contents in 10 evaluation items. Each evaluation content is categorized into a relevant factor among five universal design applicable factors (Universality, Convenience, Recognition, Safety and Economic Feasibility) according to its characteristics.

The age and physical condition of users who use public libraries are becoming diverse in recent years. The need for universal design is recognized as important to create a public library with a convenient and pleasant environment in consideration of various users. The purpose of this research is to propose the universal design application method after analyzing level of application of common spaces in public libraries. First, the environment related to 'Perceptable Information' with low level of universal design should be improved first. Second, it is important to apply it from the initial planning phase to create a more advanced universal design environment. Third, careful consideration and awareness of all users of the library should precede to engance 'Flexibility in Use' related environment.

Libraries should offer their services to all users including those who find difficult to access knowledge information without any obstacles or discrimination. Therefore, this study, aiming at providing library services to all users by applying 'Universal Design' to libraries, extracted and presented five components in library services: universal convenience, which allows all users to use libraries; safety of services, which offers safety in library use; user-orientedness, which offers user-oriented library services; user request, which allows library services reflecting the needs of users; and economic feasibility of the services, which provide efficient and economic library services. The proposed five components will play the foundational role in implementing universal design on libraries so that all users can use library services.

Universal Design is comprised of three main concepts known as barrier-free, adaptive and life-span design. It does not focus on accessibility for the disabled, but rather expands its breadth to the comfortable use and easy access in ail physical environments and facilities. In this study, the researcher views the present and future of universal design through the cases of kitchen design. Based on the market changes in design guidelines and the changes of time uncovered from past studies, this researcher suggests that universal design would develop through mass customization for personalized use, application of new technology and consideration of psychological aspects. Additionally, for the diffusion of universal design appropriate solution in economic cost problem, social recognition and conversion of problem cognizance in designing is needed. In Korea design models of universal design concepts are not yet in production over various fields. In order to develop and study universal design which suits our country, cultural and regional characteristics should be considered as well as physical, perceptual, psychological aspects.

This study takes cultural space facilities as the research object, trying to grasp the status quo of universal design. By selecting Busan Museum, Busan Museum of Art, and Busan Museum of Modern Art, masters the applicability and characteristics of universal design, and gets the improvements. First, through literature review, the concepts of universal design and evaluation elements are considered. Secondly, obtains five evaluation elements by analyzing previous research. Thirdly, a field survey of various cultural spaces were conducted. gains the relevant status and problems of universal design. According to the results of the detailed evaluation project of cultural space also shuowed that the Busan Museum of Modern Art, Busan Museum, and Busan Museum of Modern Art followed in order, while the average applicability of the universal design of the three cultural spaces accounts for 53.6%. In addition, the results of the average evaluation of the facilities show that the additional facilities are the best, in turn internal facilities, sanitation facilities, other facilities, and guidelines facilities. In the future, it is deemed necessary to conduct regular surveys on universal design and renovate related facilities for public cultural facilities.

The purpose of this study is to present the direction of faculty's perception and direction of spatial composition to apply universal design principles to the space of kindergarten facilities. Based on previous research and literature review on kindergarten area, kindergarten facility space, and universal design, the universal design principle which was applied to the composition of kindergarten amenities derived four types of functional supportability, receptivity, accessibility and safety. In addition, the survey was conducted on kindergarten teachers and teacher assistants and the managers of kindergarten. As a result of the awareness of kindergarten facilities space, we have discovered the degree of universal design awareness.

핸드폰의 사용이 확대되면서 젊은 층뿐만 아니라 노년층 및 어린이들의 핸드폰 사용도 많이 늘고 있다. 그러나 현재의 핸드폰은 대부분10~30대의 중급 이상의 사용자를 중심으로 설계되어 있어, 이미 생활필수품이 된 휴대폰을 고령 사용자가 사용하기에는 많은 제약 사항이 존재한다. 이런 제약 사항들에는 작은 사이즈의 Font와 같은 물리적 제약에서 단순한 통화방식에 익숙하여 새로운 것을 유연하게 받아들이지 못해서 발생하는 인지적인 제약까지 포함되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 고령 사용자의 일상생활 중 휴대폰 관련된 불편 요소와 특이사항을 조사하여 도출하였던 요구사항을 기반으로 유니버설 디자인 휴대폰의 UI디자인 개발을 위한 가이드라인을 도출하는 것을 목표로 하였다. 본 연구에서는 고령 사용자의 핸드폰 사용 행태를 관찰하여 현재 휴대폰에서의 사용 문제점을 포함하여 사용상의 특이점을 파악한 후 고령 사용자와 초급 사용자의 불편을 최소화 할 수 있는 유니버설 디자인 휴대폰의 UI가이드라인을 제시하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 문헌연구를 통해 유니버설 디자인의 기본 개념을 살펴본 후 문맥적 사용자 조사 기법을 적용하여 1차 사용자 VOC(Voice of Customer)수집 후 주요 사용자 특성을 정의하였으며, 2차 심층 조사를 통해 핸드폰 사용시 노년층의 사용자의 Usage행태 조사를 수행하였다. 2차에 걸친 사용자 조사를 통해 도출된 요구 사항을 종합 분석하여 세분화된 휴대폰의 UI 요소에 따라 디자인 가이드라인을 도출하였다. 본 연구는 고령 사용자의 휴대폰 관련 요구사항을 공용성이 강조된 유니버설 디자인 휴대폰 개념으로 개발하기 위한 전략과 UI 디자인 가이드라인을 제시하고 있다는데 의의가 있다.
