The preservation of biological activity of protein drugs in formulation is still a major challenge for successful drug delivery. Lipase was encapsulated in poly (D,L-lactide- co-glycolide) PLGA nano-particles using a w/o/w solvent evaporation technique. The lipase-containing PLGA/poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanoparticles were characterized with regard to morphology, size, size distribution, lipase-loading efficiency, in vitro lipase release, and stability of lipase activity. The size of nanoparticles increased as polymer concentration was increased. The size of particles was not significantly affected by the PVA concentration; on the other hand, the particle size distribution was the narrowest when 4% of PVA was used. In optimum conditions, we possessed nanoparticles that characterized 72.5% of encapsulation efficiency, $198.3{\pm}13.8 nm$ size diameter. During the initial burst phase, the in vitro release rate was very fast, reaching 83% within 12 days. Until days 6, enzyme activity increased as the amount of lipase released was increased.

In this study, EMC(Epoxy molding compound) waste from the semiconductor molding process is recycled and synthesized into silica nanoparticles, which are then applied as abrasive materials contains CMP(Chemical mechanical polishing) slurry. Specifically, silanol precursor is extracted from EMC waste according to the ultra-sonication method, which provides heat and energy, using ammonia solution as an etchant. By employing as-extracted silanol via a facile sol-gel process, uniform silica nanoparticles(e-SiO2, experimentally synthesized SiO2) with a size of ca. 100nm are successfully synthesized. Through physical and chemical analysis, it was confirmed that e-SiO2 has similar properties compared to commercially available SiO2(c-SiO2, commercially SiO2). For practical CMP applications, CMP slurry is prepared using e-SiO2 as an abrasive and tested by polishing a semiconductor chip. As a result, the scratches that are roughly on the surface of the chip are successfully removed and turned into a smooth surface. Hence, the results present a recycling method of EMC waste into silica nanoparticles and the application to high-quality CMP slurry for the polishing process in semiconductor packaging.
Polyurethane (PU)/organoclay nanocomposites were prepared by mixing UV curable urethane acrylate oligomer with organoclay, and a subsequent curing by UV irradiation. As organoclays, commercially available Cloisite 20A (C20A) and acrylsilane modified C20A were used. XRD and TEM analyses revealed that the UV cured PU/clay nanocomposites formed intercalated nanocomposites, and acrylsilane modified C20A are dispersed more finely than unmodified C20A in PU matrix. DMTA, pencil hardness and adhesion test onto PET substrate showed that the clay nanolayers induced an increase in the properties, and the enhancement in the properties was more pronounced in the PU/acrylsilane modified C20A nanocomposites than in the PU/unmodified C20A nanocomposites. It was also observed that the PU/surface modified clay nanocomposites showed remarkably lower shrinkage upon UV curing than the unfilled PU. The nanocomposites showed excellent optical transparency but lower gloss as compared to unfilled PU.
The destruction of hazardous chemicals such as chlorinated organic compounds(COCs) and nitroaromatic compounds(NACs) by zero-valent iron powder is one of the latest innovative technologies. In this paper. the rapid dechlorination of chlorinated compounds as well as transformation of nitro functional group to amine functional group in the nitroaromatic compounds using synthesized zero-valent iron powder with nanoscale were studied in anaerobic batch system. Nanoscale iron, characterized by high surface area to mass ratios(31.4$\textrm{m}^2$/g) and high reactivity, could quickly reacts with compounds such as TCE, chloroform, nitrobenzene, nitrotoluene, dinitrobenzene and dinitrotoluene, at concentration of 10mg/L in aqueous solution at room temperature and pressure. In this study, the TCE was dechlorinated to ethane and chloroform to methane and nitro groups in NACs were transformed to amino groups in less than 30min. These results indicated that this chemical method using nanoscale iron powder has the high potential for the remediation of soils and groundwater contaminated with hazardous toxic chemicals including chlorinated organic compounds and nitro aromatic compounds.
Niobium pentoxide ($Nb_2O_5$) nanoparticles were synthesized using niobium (V) chloride and pluronic F108NF as the precursor and templating agent, respectively. The $Nb_2O_5$-graphene nanocomposites were placed in an electric furnace at $700^{\circ}C$ and calcined under Ar atmosphere for 2 h. The morphology, crystallinity, and photocatalytic degradation activity of the samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and UV-vis spectroscopy. The $Nb_2O_5$-graphene nanocomposites acted as a photocatalyst in the photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes under 254 nm UV light; the organic dyes used were methylene blue (MB), methyl orange (MO), rhodamine B (RhB), and brilliant green (BG). The photocatalytic degradation kinetics for the aforesaid dyes were determined in the presence of the $Nb_2O_5$-graphene nanocomposites.

In this study, we investigated the effect on the increase of UV absorbance using a o/w nanoemulsion containing a blend of surfactants (Tween 80 and Span 80), an organic sunscreen, and wax. The particle size of nanoemulsion produced by PIC (Phase Inversion Composition), in Tween 80/Span 80 system containing candelilla wax was below 50 nm. As the concentration of Tween 80/Span 80/candelilla wax/organic UV filter was fixed at 4.5/0.5/3.0/2.0 wt%, and various organic sunscreens were added to the system, stable nanoemulsion was produced by Parsol MCX and Escalol 587, respectively. In addition, in the same system, when the ratio of Parsol MCX and candelilla wax was less than 2.0, a stable nanoemulsion was obtained. UV absorbance showed a high synergistic effect when Parsol MCX was used with candelilla wax.

In this study, micro-sized $CeO_2$ particles were synthesized by spray pyrolysis, and EG(ethylene glycol) and CA(citric acid) as organic additives were added to obtain hollow and porous particle during spray pyrolysis, and characteristics of obtained ceria were investigated according to the amount of added organic additives. Spray pyrolysis, postheat and ball-milling were combined to give 6 paths. $CeO_2$ nano-sized particle was obtained by the path which has sequence of Spray Pyrolysis with 0.5 M of EG and CA${\rightarrow}$Post-heat${\rightarrow}$Ball-milling${\rightarrow}$Post-heat among 6 paths. The average particle size(24 nm with standard deviation of 3.8 nm) of $CeO_2$ nano-sized particle by TEM analysis is close to the primary particle size(20 nm) which was calculated by Debye-Scherrer equation. To investigate the morphological characteristics and structure of the synthesized nanoparticle powders, SEM(Scanning Electron Microscopy), XRD(X-Ray Diffractometer) and TEM(Transmission Electron Microscopy) were used.
