Improved Timing Synchronization Using Phase Difference between Subcarriers in OFDMA Uplink Systems (OFDMA 상향 링크 시스템에서 부반송파간 위상 회전 정보를 이용한 개선된 시간 동기 추정 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, the timing estimator based on the principle of the best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) is proposed in OFDMA uplink systems. The proposed timing estimator exploits the phase information of the differential correlation between adjacent subcarriers. The differential correlation can extract the information about timing offset and mitigate the distortion of the signal caused by the frequency selectivity of channel. Compared with conventional methods, the proposed estimator shows more accurate capability in estimation. In addition, the estimator is hardly affected by the distortion caused by the frequency selectivity of channel. Simulation results confirm that the proposed estimator shows a small error mean and a relatively small error variance. In addition, the performance of the estimator is evaluated by means of SNR loss. It is shown by simulations that the SNR loss of the proposed estimator by estimation errors is less than 0.4 dB for the SNR values between 0 and 20 dB. This might indicate that the proposed estimator is suitable for the timing synchronization of multiple users in OFDMA uplink systems.

  • In this paper, knowing a priori probability of phase offset between transmitted codes and reference codes in the receiver, we construct the state diagram of acquisition process of the direct sequence spread-spectrum communication system using the expanding window search. The scannings are performed from the cell with higher probability code epoch synchronization to that with lower one. We expand window size from initial value by r times of its previous size in each search, construct the corresponding the state diagrams, and derive average synchronization time using the Markov process and Mason's gain formula. Average synchronization times versus number of search n and detection probability $P_d$ are calculated.

  • In the degraded mode, there is frequency-misalignment between the node clocks in a synchronous network. Therefore the phase differences between node clocks fluctuate greatly. To keep the phase difference under allowable level the pointer adjustment technique is used Unfortunately these processes cause an inherent pointer adjustment jitter, that accumulates in a chain of pointer adjustment systems. To analyze the jitter, computer simulation is carried and the results is compared with experimental jitter values.

  • 수중음향통신을 위한 빔형성 알고리듬은 수중음향통신 신호가 상대대역폭(대역폭에 대한 반송주파수 비)이 큰 광대역 신호 특성을 고려해야한다. 우리는 본 논문에서 위상동기식 디지털 수중음향통신을 위한 협대역 신호 가정을 하지 않은 기저대역 배열 신호 모델을 유도하고 RLS 알고리듬을 이용하여 가중치를 갱신하는 FTR 필터 구조의 광대역 적응 빔형성 알고리듬에 대해서 전산 모의실험을 통하여 FIR 필터 길이, tap간 간격 등과 같은 최적의 FIR 필터 파라미터를 제시하였다.

  • In this paper, the performance on the PN code acquisition of DS/CDMA system was analyzed using the Nakagami-m probability density function considered fading environment. The equations on detection probability, $P_D$ and false alarm probability, $P_{FA}$, decision variables affecting the PN code acquisition time were derived and proved using simulation in order to analyze the performance. In conclusion, It was necessary increasing the gain of PLL for correcting phase errors and improving the acquisition performance of PN code in apply to the rake receiver.

  • This paper proposes a new time synchronization scheme for the Automatic Identification System(AIS). The proposed scheme utilizes a Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator(TCXO) as a local reference clock, and consists of a Digitally Controlled Oscillator(DCO), a divider, a phase comparator, and register blocks. Primary time reference is IPPS from GPS receiver that is synchronized to Universal Time Coordinated(UTC). And if GPS is unavailable, other station's signal is utilized as secondary time reference. The phase comparator measures time difference between the 1PPS and the generated transmit clock. The measured time difference is compensated by controlling the DCO and the transmit clock is synchronized to the Universal Time Coordinated(UTC). The synchronized transmit clock(9600Hz) is divided into the transmitting time slot(37.5Hz). The proposed scheme is tested in an experimental AIS transponder set. The experimental result shows that the proposed module satisfies the timing specification of the AIS technical standard, ITU-R M.1371-1.

Development of Wideband Frequency Modulated Laser for High Resolution FMCW LiDAR Sensor (고분해능 FMCW LiDAR 센서 구성을 위한 광대역 주파수변조 레이저 개발)

  • FMCW LiDAR system with robust target detection capabilities even under adverse operating conditions such as snow, rain, and fog is addressed in this paper. Our focus is primarily on enhancing the performance of FMCW LiDAR by improving the characteristics of the frequency-modulated laser, which directly influence range resolution, coherence length, and maximum measurement range etc. of LiDAR. We describe the utilization of an unbalanced Mach-Zehnder laser interferometer to measure real-time changes of the lasing frequency and to correct frequency modulation errors through an optical phase-locked loop technique. To extend the coherence length of laser, we employ an extended-cavity laser diode as the laser source and implement a laser interferometer with an photonic integrated circuit for miniaturization of optical system. The developed FMCW LiDAR system exhibits a bandwidth of 10.045GHz and a remarkable distance resolution of 0.84mm.

A Study on the Optimum Power Ratio of Reverse Link Channels in Synchronous DS -CDMA System (동기식 DS-CDMA 시스템의 역방향 링크에서 채널간 최적 전력비에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a synchronous reverse link DS-CDMA system with cdma2000 standard is simulated to analyze performance of system and to find the optimum power ratio between pilot channel and traffic channel. In the cdma2000 the pilot channel is used to estimate fading channel, in contract to IS-95 and it compensates phase variation of received signal due to channel environment. When the length of channel estimation is 31pcg symbols, we can find the optimum power ratio of pilot channel to traffic channel. And also we find Eb/No satisfying target FER when the power control is applied and analyze performance of system with multiuser transmission.

  • In this paper, local oscillator in K band using low frequency noise upconversion gain anaylsis was designed and measured. We extended Two Signal Method(TSM) to estimate upconversion gain and resulting phase noise. To confirm the validity of the proposed method, a free-running oscillator which had low upconversion gain was designed. The measured oscillation frequency was 23.42 GHz and phase noise at 1 MHz of offset was -105.2 dBc/Hz. Also, this oscillator was operated for subharmonic injection locked osci1lator(SILO). In this case, SILO showed ideal frequency multiplier phase noise characteristics at low subharmonic injection power level.

  • A channel is very sever in an underwater acoustic communication. Therefore, a modulation method with high spectrum efficiency is needed in an underwater acoustic communication. PSK(phase shift keying) for transmitting 1 bit or 2 bits is robust to noise, but sensitive to noise about more than 3 bits. CPFSK error performance for transmitting 1 bit or 2 bits is similar to that of PSK and CPFSK decreases high frequency components in modulation signal. In the paper, I analyze the performance of trellis coded 4-CPFSK modulation.
