Seepage-induced behaviour of a circular vertical shaft (침투를 고려한 원형수직터널 거동특성 연구)

  • When a circular vertical shaft is constructed below the groundwater level, additional forces caused by groundwater flow besides horizontal effective stresses will act on the wall. The inward direction of the groundwater flow will be inclined to the vertical wall and its direction will change depending on the wall depth. In this paper, to figure out the effect of seepage forces acting on the circular vertical shaft, the slope of the inclined flow varying with the depth is divided into vertical and horizontal components to derive the coefficient of earth pressure considering the seepage pressure and to obtain the vertical stress by taking the seepage pressure into account. The control volume in this study is assumed to be the same with that of the dry ground condition within which the earth pressure is acting on the wall by the creation of the plastic zone during shaft excavation. An example study shows that the vertical stress increases by about 1.4 times and the horizontal earth pressure increases up to 2.5 times compared to the dry ground condition. The estimated values from the proposed equation considering seepage forces and the calculated values from numerical analysis with "effective stress plus seepage force" show similar values, which verifies appropriateness of the proposed equation to estimate the earth pressure under the seepage condition.

  • 최근 홍수의 특성과 피해 양상은 과거와는 다르게 변화하고 있으며, 급격한 도시화로 인하여 기존 하천유역의 저류 능력이 감소하였으며 이러한 한계를 극복하기 위하여 이미 외국에서는 대심도 터널을 활용한 홍수재해 관리방안이 오래전부터 활용되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 대심도 터널의 유입구, 수직갱, 감세지, 배수터널과 같은 시설물 중 대심도 터널 설계 시 수직 유입구를 통해 유입되는 유량의 에너지를 완화하고 효과적으로 배수 할 수 있도록 중요한 역할을 하는 감세지의 효율적인 깊이 산정을 위하여 수리모형실험을 실시하였으며, 모형은 Froude 상사법칙을 사용하여 원형의 1/18크기로 제작하였다. 본 연구에서 실시한 감세지 모형의 깊이는 0.278 m(원형 5.0 m), 0.417 m(원형 7.5 m)이며, 각 감세지 깊이별 수직 유입구 3개소(저지수직구1, 저지수직구2, 고지수직구) 및 5가지의 유량 CASE에 대하여 감세지 바닥면 압력을 비교?분석 하였다. 수직 유입구 3개소의 설계조건에 따른 감세지 깊이별 바닥면 압력 분포 평가를 실시한 결과 저지수직구1의 감세지 깊이 0.278 m(원형 5.0m)에서는 최대 압력이 4번 지점에서 $0.075kg/cm^2$(원형 1.30 MPa)이 측정 되었으며, 0.417 m(원형 7.5m)에서는 최대 압력이 1번지점에서 $0.089kg/cm^2$(원형 1.54MPa)이 측정되었다. 또한 저지수직구2의 감세지 깊이 0.278 m(원형 5.0 m)에서는 최대 압력이 1번 지점에서 $0.074kg/cm^2$(원형 1.28 MPa)이 측정 되었으며, 0.417 m(원형 7.5 m)에서는 최대 압력이 2번지점에서 $0.088kg/cm^2$(원형 1.52 MPa)이 측정되었다. 고지수직구의 감세지 깊이 0.278 m(원형 5.0 m)에서는 최대 압력이 3번 지점에서 $0.082kg/cm^2$(원형 1.42 MPa)이 측정 되었으며, 0.417 m(원형 7.5 m)에서는 최대 압력이 1번지점에서 $0.092kg/cm^2$(원형 1.59 MPa)이 측정되었다. 본 연구에서 실시한 수리모형실험의 결과 저유량에서 고유량으로 갈수록 최대압력지점은 반시계방향으로 움직이는 것을 알 수 있으며, 이는 수직 유입구의 설계조건에 따른 수직갱에서의 회전수차에 의하여 발생하는 것으로 분석하였다. 따라서 적절한 감세지 깊이 산정을 위해서 대심도터널의 수직 유입구(유입구형태, 수직갱)의 평가가 함께 유기적으로 이루어져야 할 것으로 판단된다.

Analysis of Earth Pressure Acting on Vertical Circular Shaft Considering Aching Effect (I) - A Study on Centrifuge Model Tests - (아칭효과를 고려한 원형수직터널의 토압 특성 분석 (I) - 원심모형실험 연구 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze earth pressure acting on a circular shaft-tunnel considering arching effect by centrifuge modeling test on sands. The centrifuge testing method provides a way to model an in-situ stress state condition with a stress gradient within a laboratory specimen. A small-scale model of circular shaft-tunnel, which has a real diameter of 6.0 m and height of 15.0 m, was designed and tested twice under 75g-level. Additionally, an effect of excavation was presented by separating two segments of circular shaft wall to find behavioral properties and strength of earth pressure along with excavating ground. The test results were compared with those of the proposed earth pressure equation. The test results showed that earth pressure decreased by about 70% in comparison with existing two-dimensional earth pressure. This fact might be attributed to three-dimensional arching effects.

  • The earth pressure acting on the vertical shaft is less than that acting on the retaining wall due to three dimensional arching effect. Thus, it might be essential to estimate the earth pressure actually acting on the shaft when designing the vertical shaft. In this paper, large-sized model tests were conducted as Part II of companion papers to verify the newly suggested earth pressure equation proposed by Kim et al. (2009: Part I of companion papers) that can be used when designing the vertical shaft in cohesionless soils as well as in c-$\phi$ soils and multi-layered soils. The newly developed model test apparatus was designed to be able to simulate staged shaft excavation. Model tests were performed by varying the radius of vertical shaft in dry soil. Moreover, tests on c-$\phi$ soils and on multi-layered soils were also performed; in order to induce apparent cohesion to the cohesionless soil, we add some water to the dry soil to make the soil partially-saturated before depositing by raining method. Experimental results showed a load transfer from excavated ground to non-excavated zone below dredging level due to arching effect when simulating staged excavation. It was also found that measured earth pressure was far smaller than estimated if excavation is done at once; the final earth pressure measured after performing staged excavation was larger and matched with that estimated from the newly proposed equation. Measured results in c-$\phi$ soils and in multi-layered soils showed reduction in earth pressures due to apparent cohesion effect and showed good matches with analytical results.

  • Several researches have been done to estimate the earth pressure on a vertical circular shaft considering three dimensional arching effect and verified them by conducting model tests. However, any equation suggested so far is not applicable in case of multi-layered soils and/or C-${\phi}$ soils. In this study, new equation for estimating the earth pressure acting on the vertical shaft in c-${\phi}$ soils is proposed. A parametric study is performed to investigate the significance of the cohesion when estimating the coefficient of earth pressure in C-${\phi}$ soils and estimating earth pressures in vertical shafts. A method which can estimate the earth pressure on vertical shafts in layered soils is also proposed by assuming a failure surface in layered soils and using the modified equation. This paper is Part I of companion papers focusing on the theoretical aspect of model developments; the experimental verification will be made in Part II.

Analysis of ground settlement due to circular shaft excavation (원형 수직구 굴착에 따른 발생 지반침하 분석)

  • Ground excavation inevitably causes ground displacement of adjacent ground, and structures and facilities exposed to ground displacement may suffer various damages. Therefore, in order to minimize the damage and damage to adjacent structures and facilities caused by excavation, ground displacement (settlement and horizontal displacement) in the adjacent ground caused by excavation must first be predicted. There is many ground displacement information induced by general braced cut excavation, but the information is not enough for circular shaft excavation. This study aims to provide information on the estimation of ground settlement caused by circular shaft excavation through the case analysis of circular shafts and comparison with braced cut excavation. From this study, it was found that the use of the settlement criterion of braced cut excavation as the settlement management criterion for circular shaft excavation is a conservative approach in terms of safety. But when considering the economic aspect, it may result in overdesign of the wall and therefore, a more reasonable settlement criterion can be needed for circular shaft excavation.

  • 최근 홍수의 특성과 피해 양상은 과거와는 다르게 변화하고 있으며, 급격한 도시화로 인하여 기존 하천유역의 저류 능력이 감소하였는데 이러한 한계를 극복하기 위하여 이미 외국에서는 대심도 터널을 활용한 홍수재해 관리방안이 오래전부터 활용되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 현재 서울시에 건설중인 '신월 빗물저류배수시설' 연속강우 시 대심도 터널의 수리적 안정성 평가와 운영방안 수립을 위한 수리모형실험을 실시하였다. 모형은 Froude 상사법칙을 사용하여 원형의 1/50크기로 제작하였다. 모형의 전체 저류 가능량은 모형기준 $2.78m^3$ (원형 $347,778m^3$)이며, 터널 내 잔류수는 전체 저류 가능량의 0 ~ 100%까지 10%씩 변화시켜 실험 CASE를 선정하였다. 각 실험CASE별 수직 유입구 안정성 평가를 실시한 결과 터널 내 잔류수가 10%~80%까지 존재 할 때는 저지수직구1에서의 압축공기 폭발현상으로 인한 월류현상이 발생하였으며, 10%~40%까지는 저지수직구2에서 월류현상이 발생하였다. 하지만 고지수직구에서는 모든 CASE에서의 공기폭발 현상 및 월류현상이 발생하지 않아 유입성능 및 공기배출 성능이 충분히 발휘되고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 저지수직구1에서의 월류현상 발생 시점은 5분55초에서 3분42초까지 빨라졌으며 저지수직구2에서의 월류현상 발생 시점은 5분57초에서 4분57초로 빨라졌다. 이는 터널 내 잔류수량이 증가할수록 터널 내 만관시점이 빨라져 발생하며, 저지수직구1,2에서의 압축공기 폭발현상 및 월류 현상은 터널 내에서 발생한 반사파의 영향으로 판단된다. 차후 터널 내 반사파 발생에 대한 연구가 추가적으로 진행되어야 할 것이다.

A study for calculating factor of safety against basal heave during circular vertical shaft excavation in clay considering 3D shape (3차원 형상을 고려한 점성토 지반 원형 수직구 굴착 중 히빙에 대한 안전율 산정을 위한 연구)

  • Considering the stability of the ground in the process of excavation design is essential because there is a risk of basal heave due to the load of the surrounding ground during the vertical excavation. However, calculation of the factor of safety for basal heave should be performed with two-dimensional equation, and the equation cannot reflect three-dimensional shape of vertical excavation. In this study, an equation for factor of safety for the basal heave was proposed with considering the effect of three-dimensional shape. It is confirmed that the equation can more appropriately reflect the basal heave stability 3D circular vertical excavation than the existing equation. Using the equation proposed in this study, it is possible to derive an appropriate factor of safety according to the 3D excavation shape during the circular vertical shaft excavation.

Earth pressure of vertical shaft considering arching effect in layered soils (다층지반에서의 아칭현상에 의한 수직갱 토압)

  • A new earth pressure equation acting on the vertical shafts in cohesionless soils has been proposed by modifying the equations proposed by others. In order to verify the modified equation, model tests which can control uniform wall displacement with depth to radial direction were conducted. Model tests were performed with three different wall friction angles and two different relative densities. The measured values were larger than estimated values when assuming $\lambda=1$ ; smaller than those when assuming $\lambda=1-sin\phi$. The parameter, $\lambda$ is the ratio of tangential stress to vertical stress and is the most critical value in proposed equation. A method which can estimate the earth pressure on vertical shafts in layered soils is also proposed by reasonably assuming the failure surface of layered soils and using the modified equation. In order to verify the proposed method, in-situ measurement data have been collected from the three in-situ vertical shafts installed in layered soils. Most of earth pressures converted from measured data match reasonably well with estimated values using proposed method.

Development of design charts for concrete lining in a circular shaft (원형수직구 콘크리트라이닝 단면설계도표 개발)

  • Recently, requirement of a long subsea tunnel has increased due to political, economical and social demands such as saving of distribution costs, improvement of traffic convenience, and regional development. Road and railroad tunnel need a shaft for construction and ventilation because of increase of tunnel length. Shaft diameter, lining sectional thickness and rebar quantity have to be determined for design of concrete lining in the shaft. A lot of structural analyses are needed for optimal design of concrete lining considering shaft diameter, load conditions and ground conditions. Design charts are proposed by structural analyses for various conditions in this study. A sectional thickness and rebar quantity can be easily determined using the proposed design charts.
