  • The component analysis of wax for detecting temperature in automobile thermostat of the automotive engine and manufacture of it with distillation and solvent extraction were progressed. From the lift test results of prepared samples, it was found that the solvent extracted samples were in the proper range for use as an automobile thermostat of the automotive engine. And more accurate wax could be manufactured by high vacuum fractional distillation and acid treatment after solvent extraction from crude oil pitch.

  • 본 연구에서는 준분포형 지표수 유출모형인 SWAT과 3차원 지하수 유동모형인 MODFLOW의 완전연동형 결합모형을 독자적으로 개발했다. SWAT의 지하수 모형성분은 집중형이므로 분포형 매개변수와 변화하는 양수량, 지하수위의 변화등을 고려하지 못하며 MODFLOW모형은 주요 입력자요인 함양량의 정확한 산정이 어렵다. 두 프로그램의 연결작업은 지하수 함양량의 전달과정과 하천네트워크-대수층간의 상호작용을 고려하여 완성하였으며 경안천유역의 오산천 소유역에 모형을 시험구동을 수행했다. 시험구동결과 결합모형은 수문모형 혹은 지하수 모형만으로는 해결되지 않는 하천-대수층간의 경계유량을 고려한 유출해석이 가늠해짐으로써 유역내 지하수 유출량 및 총 유출량의 신뢰성이 증대될 것으로 기대된다.

  • 석유의 매장량은 한정되어있고 석유에 대한 수요량은 지속적으로 증대됨에 따라 국제원유가격은 끝없이 치솟고 있다. 아울러 석유를 비롯한 화석연료는 지구온난화를 가속시키고 있어 대체에너지의 개발에 세계가 관심과 노력을 경주하고 있다. 세계최대의 석유소비국인 미국에서는 지속적 재생이 가능하고 온실가스발생이 적은 biofuel의 생산에 박차를 가하고 있는데 특히 옥수수를 이용한 에탄올 생산을 지속적으로 증대시켜 화석연료의 사용량을 줄이겠다는 원대한 계획을 Bush대통령이 직접 진두지휘하고 있다. 이러한 정책의 결과로 이미 국제 옥수수가격은 폭등하고 있다. 옥수수가 에탄올 생산에 사용되는 비중이 높아짐에 따라 사료용 옥수수 가격의 지속적인 상승이 예상되는 한편 부산물로 생산되는 옥수수주정박(DDGS; distiller's dried grains with solubles) 공급량의 지속적인 증가도 예상된다. 이러한 대세가 원료수입 의존도가 높은 한국의 사료산업과 축산업계에 미치는 충격을 최소화 하기 위해서는 대체사료자원의 개발과 DDGS의 활용에 관한 관심과 연구가 그 어느때 보다 더욱 절실하게 요망된다. 차제에 DDGS에 대한 이해와 사료적가치평가 및 활용에 보탬이 되고자 앞으로 biofuel과 DDGS산업개황, DDSG의 물리화학적 특성, 영양성분 및 품질변이, 축종별 사용방안, DDGS의 상대적 가치, 구매요령 등에 대하여 약 10회에 걸쳐 연재로 소개하고자 한다.

Stability of Immunoglobulin G(IgG) by Heat Treatment (면역단백질 G(IgG)의 열처리에 대한 안정성)

  • This study was carried out to obtain fundamental data when developing new colostrum component fortified milk products. Residual immunoglobulin G (IgG) activities of both IgG fortified milk products under different pasteurization conditions and colostrum fortified milk powder products under different dissolving temperatures were measured. In the study, residual IgG activities of raw milk and IgG (50 mg and 250 mg) fortified milk products were sharply reduced upon increasing the temperature of heat treatment. After the low temperature long time (LTLT) treatment residual IgG activities of raw milk, IgG 50 mg and 250 mg fortified milk products decreased to 79%, 30% and 21.6%, as compared to those before heat treatment respectively. However, almost no residual IgG activities were detected when IgG fortified milk was heated at 95$^{\circ}C$ for 15 sec. There was no significant change in the residual IgG activities of IgG fortified milk powder products upon different dissolving temperatures (30$^{\circ}C$, 40$^{\circ}C$, 50$^{\circ}C$ and 60$^{\circ}C$).

  • The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of oil spill from the wastewater of Yeosu Refinery on water quality of hard clam culture beds in Taein-Ri, Kwang Yang Bay. Wastewater and oil spill may reach to the culture beds in 6-8 hours by tidal current movement. Water quality is nearly normal as unpolluted sea water except the concentration of n-hexane extractive chemicals which shows higher than unpolluted sea water in period of September to October in 1973. It may be caused by wastewater of Yeosu Refinery.

  • Naturally occurring substances which strongly scavenge peroxynitrite(ONOO-) are evaluated to be beneficial for cardiovascular, diabetic, hypercholesterolemic and obese disease. To search for bioactive substances with peroxynitritescavenging activity from the young leaves of Heracleum moellendorffii(Umbelliferae) used for a mountainous vegetable, the experiment on peroxynitrite-scavenging assay, phytochemical isolation and HPLC analysis were undertaken. Activity-guided fractionation led to the separation of astragalin and hyperoside which were identified by physicochemical and spectroscopic data. The $IC_{50}$ values of astragalin and hyperoside were shown as $5.80{\pm}0.62$ and $0.560{\pm}0.26\;{\mu}M$, respectively, in the assay. The HPLC analysis led to the quantitative determination of astragalin and hyperoside by $30.0{\pm}0.01$ and $17.0{\pm}0.02\;mg/g$ dried weight, respectively.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of different milking systems (AMS, automatic milking system and CMS, conventional milking system) and of supplemental fat feeding on milk composition and milk fat characteristics. The composition, MFG (milk fat globule) size, fatty acids (FAs), and free fatty acids (FFAs) of the milk from 4 AMS and 4 CMS dairy farms were analyzed on the basis of the milking system and feeding of protected fat. The milking system did not affect milk composition, MFG size, and milk FAs, but FFA content of AMS milk were significantly higher than that of CMS milk. Feeding of protected fat resulted in the production of milk much higher in LCFAs (long chain FAs); however, the milk composition was not affected by fat supplementation. Cows administered protected fat supplements produced milk containing MFGs with a large average diameter.

Research Trends and Future Directions for R&D Vitalization of Domestic Dairy Industry (국내 유가공산업의 R&D활성화를 위한 연구 동향과 방향)

  • Domestic dairy industry is now standing at the crossroad for planning next fifty years, mainly because economic and environmental situations surrounding Korean peninsula are fast changing. For the aspects of dairy consumption, fresh milk consumed less, while consumption of the other milk and dairy products is slightly increasing every year. In 2010, it is approximately estimated that 1,939,000 tons of raw milk was used and the supply would be short by about 35,000 tons, based on the amounts in the previous year. Currently, multilateral negotiations against US and EU are underway. When it will be in effect in the future, significant damage would be expected in the dairy and livestock sectors, leading to cut domestic milk supply. Quality of farm-gate milk is graded as 1A on average 90% or more, loaded with very low in microbial and somatic cell counts. Therefore, policy implications have to be placed toward switch currently the UHT processing method to Pasteurization or the LTLT technology, by which natural flavors and nutrients in milk mostly remain after heat treatment. Domestic cheese products comprise only 10% and the rest is occupied by the various kinds of imported natural products. The market size keeps increasing up to 65,423,000 tons last year. When it comes to vitalization of our natural cheese industry, cheese whey, which is a main by-product in cheese manufacture, is a critical issue to be solved and also "On-Farm Processing" would be combined with a growth of big dairy companies when few immediate issues among the relevant regulations will be eased and alleviated in the near future. Fermented milk market is recorded as a single area of gradual increase in the past 10 years, Korea. Fermented yogurts with health claims targeted stomach, liver, and intestine are popular and has grown fast in sales amounts. In this context, researches on beneficial probiotic lactic acid bacteria are one of the important projects for domestic milk and dairy industries. Labelling regulations on efficacy or health-promoting effects of functional dairy products, which is the most important issue facing domestic dairy processors, should be urgently examined toward commercial expression of the functionality by lawful means. Colostrum, a nutrition-rich yellowish fluid, is roaded with immune, growth and tissue repair factors. Bovine colostrum, a raw material for immune milk preparations and infant formula, can be used to treat or prevent infections of the gastrointestinal tract. Nanotechnology can be applied to develop new milk and dairy products such as micro-encapsulated lactase milk for consumers suffering lactose intolerance. Raw milk is suggested to be managed by its usage in the processing line because imbalance of supply and demand is structural problem in every country and thus the usage systems as in the advanced dairy countries is worth of bench-marking to stabilize milk supply and demand. Raw milk produced is desirable to divide into the three parts; domestic, import, and buffering purposes. It is strongly recommended that a domestic dairy control center as an institutional framework should be urgently established as is Dairy Board in New Zealand and Australia. Lastly, government policy should be directed to foster the highly-educated people who are majoring in Dairy Sciences or working in the dairy industry by means of financial support in studying and training abroad as well.

  • FRN (Full range Naphtha) is distilled from crude oil in a Naphtha Splitter Unit and is separated into the Light Straight Naphtha, Heavy Naphtha, and kerosene according to the boiling point in sequence. This separation is conducted using a series of binary-like columns. In this separation method, the energy consumed in the reboiler is used to separate the heaviest components and most of this energy is discarded as vapor condensation in the overhead cooler. In this study, the first two columns of the separation process are replaced with the Petlyuk column. A structural design was exercised by a stage to stage computation with an ideal tray efficiency in the equilibrium condition. Compared to the performance of a conventional system of 3-column model, the design outcome indicates that the procedure is simple and efficient because the composition of the liquid component in the column tray was designed to be similar to the equilibrium distillation curve. An analysis of the performance of the new process indicated an energy saving of 12.3% under same total number of trays and with a saving of the initial investment cost.

  • In this study, the fully coupled SWAT-MODFLOW model is developed by using the type of embedment MODFLOW in SWAT. Since SWAT model has semi distributed features, its groundwater component can't consider distributed parameters such as hydraulic conductivity, storage coefficient and spatially variable natures such as distribution of groundwater heads and pumping rate and so forth. The main purpose of this study is to overcome these limitations. This linkage is completed considering the interaction between stream network and aquifer to reflect boundary flow. To correspond HRU in SWAT to grid in MODFLOW, HRU-GRID conversion tool using DEM is newly suggested. As groundwater recharge of MODFLOW can be estimated accurately by SWAT model, the reliability of groundwater discharge and total runoff of watershed could be greatly enhanced.
