Long time-series gridded data is crucial for the analyses of Earth environmental changes. Climate reanalysis and satellite images are now used as global-scale periodical and quantitative information for the atmosphere and land surface. This paper examines the feasibility of DCT-PLS (penalized least square regression based on discrete cosine transform) for the spatial gap filling of gridded data through the experiments for multiple variables. Because gap-free data is required for an objective comparison of original with gap-filled data, we used LDAPS (Local Data Assimilation and Prediction System) daily data and MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) monthly products. In the experiments for relative humidity, wind speed, LST (land surface temperature), and NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index), we made sure that randomly generated gaps were retrieved very similar to the original data. The correlation coefficients were over 0.95 for the four variables. Because the DCT-PLS method does not require ancillary data and can refer to both spatial and temporal information with a fast computation, it can be applied to operative systems for satellite data processing.

Recently, the demand for high-resolution satellite images increases in many fields such as land monitoring and terrain analysis. Therefore, the need for geometric correction is increasing. As an automatic precision geometric correction method, there is a method of automatically extracting the GCP by matching between the GCP Chip and the satellite image. For automatic precision geometric correction, the success rate of matching GCP Chip and satellite image is important. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the matching performance of the manufactured GCP Chip. In order to evaluate the matching performance of GCP Chips, a total of 3,812 GCP Chips in South Korea were used as experimental data. The GCP Chip matching results of KOMPSAT-3A and Google Map showed similar matching results. Therefore, we determined that Google Map satellite imagery could replace high-resolution satellite imagery. Also, presented a method using center point and error radius of Google Map to reduce the time required to verify matching performance. As a result, it is best to set the optimum error radius to 8.5m. Evaluated the matching performance of GCP Chips in South Korea using Google Maps. And verified matching result using presented method. As a result, the GCP Chip s in South Korea had a matching success rate of about 94%. Also, the main matching failure factors were analyzed by matching failure GCP Chips. As a result, Except for GCP Chips that need to be remanufactured, the remaining GCP Chips can be used for the automatic geometric correction of satellite images.
Current digital radiography systems are rapidly glowing in clinical applications. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of a mobile digital radiographic system. The performance of the mobile DR system was evaluated by measuring the modulation transfer function (MTF), noise power spectrum (NPS), and detective quantum efficiency (DQE). Measurements were made on a LISTEM Mobix-1000 generator and a Teleoptic PRA Alpha-R4000 detector. Imaging characteristics were measured for these two systems using the IEC-61267 defined RQA5 (kVp: 74, additional filtration: 21 mmAl) radiographic condition. The MTF at 10% was measured as 2.4 cycles/mm and the DQE(0) values for radiation exposure 0.19, 0.5, and 1.3 mR were measured as 54%, 55%, and 76%, respectively. The NPS curves gradually decreased at high spatial frequencies. This high DQE at low frequencies, may be useful for low frequency information. The results suggested that mobile DR system could be integrated with emergency ambulance system in teleradiologic imaging applications.
We have found an error in the operational OMI HCHO columns, and corrected it by applying a background parameterization derived on a 4th order polynomial fit to the time series of monthly average OMI HCHO data. The corrected OMI HCHO agrees with this understanding as well as with the other sensors measurements and has no unrealistic trends. A new scientific approach, statistical analyses with EOF and SVD, was adapted to reanalyze the consistency of the corrected OMI HCHO with other satellite measurements of HCHO, CO, $NO_2$, and fire counts over Africa. The EOF and SVD analyses with MOPITT CO, OMI $NO_2$, SCIAMAHCY, and OMI HCHO show the overall spatial and temporal pattern consistent with those of biomass burning over these regions. However, some discrepancies were observed from OMI HCHO over northern equatorial Africa during the northern biomass burning seasons: The maximum HCHO was found further downwind from where maximum fire counts occur and the minimum was found in January when biomass burning is strongest. The statistical analysis revealed that the influence of biogenic activity on HCHO wasn't strong enough to cause the discrepancies, but it is caused by the error in OMI HCHO from using the wrong Air Mass Factor (AMF) associated with biomass burning aerosol. If the error is properly taken into consideration, the biomass burning is the strongest source of HCHO seasonality over the regions. This study suggested that the statistical tools are a very efficient method for evaluating satellite data.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the applicability of representative spatio-temporal fusion models developed for the fusion of mid- and low-resolution satellite images in order to construct a set of time-series high-resolution images for crop monitoring. Particularly, the effects of the characteristics of input image pairs on the prediction performance are investigated by considering the principle of spatio-temporal fusion. An experiment on the fusion of multi-temporal Sentinel-2 and RapidEye images in agricultural fields was conducted to evaluate the prediction performance. Three representative fusion models, including Spatial and Temporal Adaptive Reflectance Fusion Model (STARFM), SParse-representation-based SpatioTemporal reflectance Fusion Model (SPSTFM), and Flexible Spatiotemporal DAta Fusion (FSDAF), were applied to this comparative experiment. The three spatio-temporal fusion models exhibited different prediction performance in terms of prediction errors and spatial similarity. However, regardless of the model types, the correlation between coarse resolution images acquired on the pair dates and the prediction date was more significant than the difference between the pair dates and the prediction date to improve the prediction performance. In addition, using vegetation index as input for spatio-temporal fusion showed better prediction performance by alleviating error propagation problems, compared with using fused reflectance values in the calculation of vegetation index. These experimental results can be used as basic information for both the selection of optimal image pairs and input types, and the development of an advanced model in spatio-temporal fusion for crop monitoring.

This study proposes a wireless measurement system that is a new safety management system by using an FBG sensor and a PDA. The sensor part has many advantages of implementing a wireless measurement system, and the study emploies an FBG-LVDT sensor, FBG-STRAIN sensor, FBG-TEMP sensor, and FBG-ACC sensor, using FBG sensors. Also, the study show a configuration of a signal process system for operating a wireless transmission system of FBG sensors applied to the signal process system, and engrafted the cutting edge information technology industry in order to display from a remote distance using a PDA. In order to verify the applicability of the developed FBG sensors and wireless measurement monitoring system to the field, their accuracy, and usability, the study has conducted a static and dynamic test to a bridge in the field. The study made an assessment of service for the vibration of the bridge by applying dynamic data measured by an FBG-LVDT sensor and FBG-ACC sensor to Meister's curve and prepared methods for assessing the vibration of the bridge by proposing a standard of vibration limitation given the service of vibration of the bridge. As a follow up for this study, it would be necessary to set up an overall model for the standard of service assessment established in this study.
Recently, United States Geological Survey (USGS) distributed Landsat 8 Collection 2 Level 2 Science Product (L2SP). This paper aims to derive land surface temperature from L2SP and to validate it. Validation is made by comparing the land surface temperature with the one calculated from Landsat 8 Collection 1 Level 1 Terrain Precision (L1TP) and the one from Automated Synoptic Observing System (ASOS). L2SP is calculated from Landsat 8 Collection 2 Level 1 data and it provides land surface temperature to users without processing surface reflectance data. Landsat 8 data from 2018 to 2020 is collected and ground sensor data from eight sites of ASOS are used to evaluate L2SP land surface temperature data. To compare ground sensor data with remotely sensed data, 3×3 grid area data near ASOS station is used. As a result of analysis with ASOS data, L2SP and L1TP land surface temperature shows Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.971 and 0.964, respectively. RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) of two results with ASOS data is 4.029℃, 5.247℃ respectively. This result suggests that L2SP data is more adequate to acquire land surface temperature than L1TP. If seasonal difference and geometric features such as slope are considered, the result would improve.

Temperature of the Earth's surface is a crucial physical variable in understanding weather and atmospheric dynamics and in coping with extreme heat events that have a great impact on living organismsincluding humans. Thermalsensors on satellites have been a useful meansfor acquiring surface temperature information for wide areas on the globe, and thus characterization of its estimation uncertainty is of central importance for the utilization of the data. Among various factors that affect the estimation, the uncertainty caused by the algorithm itself has not been tested for the atmospheric environment of Korean vicinity. Thisstudy derivesthe uncertainty of the single-channel algorithm under the local atmospheric and oceanic conditions by using reanalysis data and buoy temperature data collected around Korea. Atmospheric profiles were retrieved from two types of reanalysis data, the fifth generation of European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts reanalysis of the global climate and weather (ERA5) and Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research and Applications-2 (MERRA-2) to investigate the effect of reanalysis data. MODerate resolution atmospheric TRANsmission (MODTRAN) was used as a radiative transfer code for simulating top of atmosphere radiance and the atmospheric correction for the temperature estimation. Water temperatures used for MODTRAN simulations and uncertainty estimation for the single-channel algorithm were obtained from marine weather buoyslocated in seas around the Korean Peninsula. Experiment results showed that the uncertainty of the algorithm varies by the water vapor contents in the atmosphere and is around 0.35K in the driest atmosphere and 0.46K in overall, regardless of the reanalysis data type. The uncertainty increased roughly in a linear manner as total precipitable water increased.
The purposes of this study were to identify factors affecting the quality of universities' e-learning contents from the perspectives of learners and to find out specific solutions for improving them. To achieve these goals, research questions were established as follows: 1) What factors were influencing the quality of universities' e-learning contents, and how were learners perceived about each factor(by its importance and satisfaction)? 2) Were there any differences on the learners' perceptions about each factor(by its importance and satisfaction)? 3) What were any specific ways to enhance the quality of universities' e-learning contents? The participants were of 543 university students who took at least one e-learning course and were living in the metropolitan areas(Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi). The survey questionnaire was consisted of 38 items developed through the literature review. To analyze the data collected, factor analysis and paired-sample t-test were conducted. The results were as follows: Five identified factors influencing the quality of universities' e-learning contents from the perspectives of learners were instructional strategies, learning contents, usability, evaluation/feedback, and interface design, and all identified factors were statistically significant differences among the learners' perceptions of its importance and satisfaction. The analysis results of importance-satisfaction matrix by each factor showed that 1) learning contents was the factor that current status should be at least continuously maintained, 2) usability, instructional strategies, and evaluation/feedback were the factors that learners' satisfactions still need to be increased although those importances were not relatively high, and 3) interface factor was important, while learners' satisfaction toward it was not much high so that solutions to increase the satisfaction need to be immediately considered. Based on the results, several suggestions to enhance universities' e-learning contents from the learners' perspectives were also recommended.

Lack of streamflow observations makes model calibration difficult and limits model performance improvement. Satellite-based remote sensing products offer a new alternative as they can be actively utilized to obtain hydrological data. Recently, several studies have shown that artificial intelligence-based solutions are more appropriate than traditional conceptual and physical models. In this study, a data-driven approach combining various recurrent neural networks and decision tree-based algorithms is proposed, and the utilization of satellite remote sensing information for AI training is investigated. The satellite imagery used in this study is from MODIS and SMAP. The proposed approach is validated using publicly available data from 25 watersheds. Inspired by the traditional regionalization approach, a strategy is adopted to learn one data-driven model by integrating data from all basins, and the potential of the proposed approach is evaluated by using a leave-one-out cross-validation regionalization setting to predict streamflow from different basins with one model. The GRU + Light GBM model was found to be a suitable model combination for target basins and showed good streamflow prediction performance in ungauged basins (The average model efficiency coefficient for predicting daily streamflow in 25 ungauged basins is 0.7187) except for the period when streamflow is very small. The influence of satellite remote sensing information was found to be up to 10%, with the additional application of satellite information having a greater impact on streamflow prediction during low or dry seasons than during wet or normal seasons.
