  • Recently, SNS is widely used for various purposes such as fast decision making or effective business process in educational institutions or enterprise as well as general services for social networking. Unfortunately, all of existing general SNS platforms do not provide user groups with workspaces for sharing information in a hierarchical way, nor support the functionality of workspace backup for migrations. In this paper, we present a collaborative workspace environment named ElggSpace which extends the Elgg SNS platform with the C3ware collaborative middleware. With the help of C3ware, ElggSpace systematically supports collaborative workspaces that enable user groups to share massive resource in cloud storages. In addition, ElggSpace allows high-level access controls for resources management and the functionality of resource backup, supporting effective collaboration.

  • SpaceWire is a standard for high-speed links and networks between spacecraft components, which was invented for better, cheaper and faster on-board data handling in spacecraft. The standard defines timecode and its distribution which can be used for time synchronization among the nodes in a SpaceWire network. A timecode output from the time master which provides standard time over a SpaceWire network travels through links and routers to reach every nodes. While traveling, a timecode suffers from transmission delay and jitter which cause some difference in time synchronization among nodes. In this work, a simulator was developed using OMNeT++ to simulate the operation of a SpaceWire network and some analyses were performed on the transmission delay and jitter accompanied with a transmission of a timecode. The result will be used in the near future for the research of a precise time synchronization technique over a SpaceWire network.

  • Web-based learning receives much attention as an effective learning method because users can use the learning service at any time from any space. A learning management system(LMS) provides online educational environment among teachers and students, supporting various facilities to deliver educational contents. Since most of the existing LMSs support one-way or limited two-way teaching services among teachers and students, there are a lot of difficulties in performing collaboration among students and/or collaboration among teachers and students. In this paper, we describe the development of collaborative workspaces which provides effective collaborative educational environment on Moodle which is widely accepted as a typical LMS. Through the provided various types of collaborative workspaces, users can easily perform group activities, sharing educational with appropriate access control mechanism.

  • SpaceWire invented for on-board data handling in a spacecraft has Time-Code defined for time synchronization over SpaceWire network. Delay and jitter of the transmission of Time-Code caused when a Time-Code travels through a network are the main reasons of time synchronization error. This work proposes a scheme that can reduce the time synchronization error by using extended Time-Codes. The proposed scheme can remove both transmission jitter and transmission delay. The scheme will be validated in a simulation environment built with OMNeT++.

  • It is common among users to have multiple computing devices as well as to access their files or do work at different locations. To achieve file consistency as well as mobility in this scenario, an efficient approach for workspace synchronization should be used. However, file synchronization alone cannot guarantee the mobility of work environment which allows activities to be resumed at any place and time. This paper proposes a ubiquitous synchronization approach which provides cloud-based access to a user's workspace. Efficient synchronization is achieved by combining session monitoring with file system management. Experimental results show that the proposed mechanism outperforms Cloud Master-replica Synchronization in terms of number of I/O operations, CPU utilization, as well as the average and maximum latencies in responding to client requests.

  • SpaceWire invented for spacecrafts has Time-Code defined for time synchronization over SpaceWire network. A Time-Code suffers transmission delay of 14[bit-period] and jitter up to 10[bit-period] whenever it passes through a SpaceWire link, which is the primary cause of time synchronization error. This work presents a simple method to improve the time synchronization which uses two extended Time-Codes. Nodes on a SpaceWire network can find how much delay and jitter a received Time-Code has suffered while it passes through the network, and they can correct time synchronization error with this information. The proposed method was validated in a simulation environment developed based on OMNeT++. The simulation result showed that time synchronization error less than a few bit-periods can be achieved. The proposed method is cost effective and suitable for small-scale SpaceWire network systems.

  • In IoT environment, an intelligent agent is an autonomous entity with computing power that interacts with various things for specific purposes without human intervention. Recently, as the development of Internet technology has increased the size of resources and services that intelligent agents can utilize, an environment where intelligent agents can collaborate with each other is needed. To effectively support these changes, a method is needed to provide workspaces where intelligent agents can form various groups and collaborate on them. In this paper, we present TSpace which is an Ethereum-based group workspace for effective collaboration among intelligent agents. In TSpace, intelligent agents in IoT environment can use group service based on the Ethereum blockchain through the developed CoAP/RESTful web service. TSpace also introduces a new mechanism for managing Ethereum wallets of agents accessing group services and for creating Ethereum transactions using them.

  • Rapid social change in economy, society and information technology takes the initiative of changing office formation. It also requires new change in workspace function for the office workers. This research is about the change of office formation chronologically according to the change in economy, society and cultural diversity. The study also shows the directions for the workspace design considering the new demand and flow of the new office formation. Mobile Office, Virtual Office and Moduler Office are the new office formation. Also, the new workspace requires the common space where the workers can communicate diversely and share their knowledge and ideas, enhancing collaboration and productivity of the new workspace.
