  • 석유화학공정은 석유화학제품의 특성상 유기용제를 많이 사용하고 있기 때문에 국내ㆍ외적으로 휘발성 유기화합물질의 배출원으로 큰 부분을 차지하고 있는 시설이다. 국내에서 석유화학시설은 울산공단, 여천공단 및 대산공단에 밀집되어 있고, '96년 10월 여천공단이 대기보전 특별대책지역으로 지정되어 휘발성유기화합물질 배출저감을 위한 종합대책이 고시되면서부터 많은 회사들이 방지시설을 설치하여 대기질이 꾸준히 향상되어 가고 있다. (중략)

울산 석유화학공단 지역내 불포화대 토양층의 구간별 중금속성분 분포 연구

  • 본 연구는 울산 석유화학공단 지역을 중심으로 여천공단과 용연공단의 불포화 토양층에서 지표면하 1.0m 지점까지 3구간 $(GL-0{\sim}0.2m,\;0.2{\sim}0.5m,\;0.5{\sim}1.0m)$으로 나누어 토양을 채취하여 토양환경보전법에서 규제하는 중금속 성분을 실내분석 하였다. 연구지역의 토양내 pH는 모든 구간에서 평균 $6.9{\sim}7.0$으로 나타났으며, 대체적으로 $7.5{\sim}8.5$ 사이의 약알칼리성을 가지며 공장이 밀집한 지역에서는 pH $4.1{\sim}4.5$ 정도의 강한 산성을 나타내었다. 연구지역의 토양내 중금속은 Cd, CU, Pb, As, Hg, Ni, $Cr^{+6}$ 및 Zn 성분이 분석되었다. Zn와 $Cr^{+6}$ 성분을 제외하고는 시료채취 구간별 함량의 차이는 거의 나타나지 않았다. $Cr^{+6}$과 Zn 성분은 $0{\sim}0.2m$ 구간에서 높은 함량을 나타내었다.

Some Heavy, Metal Concentrations of Seawater and Mytilus coruscus in Ulsan Seaside (울산연안 해수 및 홍합 중의 중금속 함량)

  • To examine the contamination in Ulsan coastal area, some heavy metal concentrations in sea water and Mytilus coruscus have been measured. Sea water samples were collected on April 6 in 1995 and Mytilus coruscus samples were collected on April 2 in 1995. Total number of sea water samples was 26 and that of Mytilus coruscus was 54. The sites where the samples collected were same in sea water and Mytilus coruscus. The method of analysis was atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The results indicated that the heavy metal concentrations of sea water were varied according to the sampling stations. The concentrations of cadmium, manganese, zinc in sea water collected in the coastal area near Mipo complex were higher than those of other coastal areas, and the concentrations of lead in sea water collected in the coastal area near petrochemical complex were higher than those of others. In general the concentrations of lead, zinc, copper in sea water were proportionate to those in Mytilus coruscus. The mean concentration rates of lead, cadmium, manganese in Mytilus coruscus inhabiting in Ulsan coastal area were similar, 1070, 1370 and 1300, respectively. The concentration rate of mercury was 80, the lowest value of other heavy metals, and that of copper was 6940, the highest value. Consequently it seems to be more desirable to use Mytilus coruscus as a sample to examine the contamination of coastal area than sea water.

  • 울산지역은 1962년 공업 특구로 지정된 후 지난 30년 동안 우리나라의 기간 산업인 석유화학, 제련, 자동차, 조선공업 등 대단히 크고 많은 생산시설이 입주하여 운영 중에 있다. 특히 1974년부터 가동된 온산 국가공업단지에 많은 비철금속관련 업체들이 들어서면서 해양, 토양 뿐 아니라 대기중의 중금속 오염도를 가속 시켜 왔다. 최근 환경부 대기중의 중금속 측정망 분석 결과에 따르면 울산은 국내 여러 공단 도시에 비해 중금속의 오염정도가 매우 심각한 것으로 나타나고 있다. 특히, 온산공단의 대기나 토양의 카드뮴의 오염은 국내 최고치를 나타내고 있다.   • 석유화학, 비철금속공단, 조선 및 기계공단 등과 같은 대형 산업단지를 가진 울산지역의 대기오염은 타 지역에 비하여 꽤 높은 것으로 보고되고 있다. 또한 울산지역은 인구가 백만이 넘는 대형도시이고, 사람과 각종 공단 생산제품을 수송하기 위한 교통밀도도 꽤 높으므로 많은 양의 휘발성 유기화합물(Volatile Organic Compounds : VOCs)이 배출되고 있다. 흔히 VOC는 대류권 오존 농도의 전구체로서 역할을 하여 대류권 오존농도 감소를 위한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. (중략)

Respiratory Health of the Children Living near the Petrochemical Estate in Ulsan (울산 석유화학공단 인근 어린이들의 호흡기 건강상태)

  • Objectives : To evaluate the effect of low-level exposure of air pollutants on the respiratory tract of the children living near the petrochemical estate in Ulsan. Methods : The study design was cross-sectional, and the study subjects consisted of 150 children(76 boys, 74 girls) living near the petrochemical estate and 100 children(53 boys, 47 girls) living in a suburban area. We investigated respiratory health using self-administered questionnaires(ATS-DLD-78) , radiological examination, and pulmonary function test such as FVC and FEV1. Results : There were higher prevalence rates of respiratory symptoms in the children living near the petrochemical estate than the children living in a suburban area. And the results of FVC and FEV1 of 11-years old children living near the petrochemical estate were lower than those of the children living in a suburban area. Conclusions : Chronic exposure of low-level air pollutants would affect respiratory health of the children. Therefore, further a longitudinal study of respiratory health will be needed for children living near the petrochemical estate in Ulsan.

  • The purpose of this study is to minimize damage of chemical accidents through the appropriation analysis of evacuation facility position focused on Ulsan metropolitan city. For analysis, informations such as pollutant release and transfer registers(PRTR), population census, and evacuation facilities were used. After then, damage assessment of chemical accidents, accessibility and appropriation of evacuation facilities were analyzed. Damage of chemical accidents is high in around 5km of industrial complex there is dense of chemical facility and population. Evacuation facilities were mainly situated in hazard area of chemical accidents, but accessibility of evacuation facilities was vulnerable in chemical plant neighborhood. Therefore, safety check of deteriorated plants is important for prevention of chemical accidents. Also, effective evacuation plan considering capacity and scale of evacuation facilities will be established.
