The Show up Time in the Development of the Korean Pilots Fatigue Management Program (한국형 운항승무원 피로관리 프로그램의 출두시간에 관한 연구)

  • The significance of pilots' fatigue and the attributed risk management had continuously increased over time as the airline industry expanded. Research and legislation efforts associated with pilot fatigue are being taking place actively all over the world. In the developed world such as the United States and European Union etc., the airline pilot fatigue is already being managed by considering the show up time, the number of take offs and landings made, resting period, jet lag etc., when computing flight duty time. In Korea, the flight duty time is only limited by the total number of hours per given period regardless of the flight conditions and environment. Such lack of regulation demand development of a fatigue management program. According to the survey taken from the airline pilots in Korea, it has been found that acquiring foreign policies directly may in turn, increase the risk of fatigue. This research suggest future studies regarding fatigue management program adapted exclusively to Korean domestic flight environment and culture.

Interaction of Encountering Two Ships with Varying Speed in Calm Water (정면으로 마주치는 선박의 선속에 따른 상호 간섭력에 관한 연구)

  • 두 선박이 정면에서 마주치며 선박간 상호 통항하거나 상대선을 추월할 경우 각 선박의 선체형상과 선속에 의한 유체력 상호작용에 따른 선박간 간섭력이 발생한다. 선박간 간섭력의 주요한 평가 요소인 횡력과 회두 모멘트의 측정을 통해 두 선박이 근접하였을 때의 위험도와 충돌을 예측할 수 있다. 선행된 간섭력에 관한 연구는 대부분 경험에 의하거나 이론적인 측면에서 관련 연구가 진행되어왔으며, 학계에서 통상적으로 널리 알려진 뉴턴의 연구(1960)에서는 깊은 수심에서 두 선박을 평행하게 항주시켰을 때 선박간 최대 흡인력은 두 선박이 정횡으로 나란하게 위치되는 지점에서 발생하고, 이때의 간섭력은 선속의 제곱에 비례한다고 추정하였다. 현대의 조선기술이 발전함에 따라 선박의 크기는 점점 대형화되고 선박의 운항 효율성 증진을 위한 다양한 선형이 개발되어 실선에 적용되고 있다. 이런 경향에 따라 과거에 비해 현대 선박 운항환경에서의 선박간 간섭은 선박의 크기 및 선형에 의한 영향이 클 것으로 판단된다. 본 연구에서는 선박의 종류별로 대표 선종을 선정하여 두 선박이 정면에서 마주치며 통과하는 운항조건에서의 선속 증가에 따른 선박 상호간 간섭력의 변화를 통상적으로 사용되는 선박조종시뮬레이터를 이용하여 실험 및 분석하여 상관관계를 도출하였다. 선박 유형에 따른 시뮬레이션 실험 결과 최대 횡력은 주로 선미 부근에서 발생하였고 최대 회두모멘트는 선수가 근접할 때 발생하였으며, 선속이 증가할수록 선박 상호간 근접거리가 좁혀졌고 선형별로 각기 다른 선속에서 선미 충돌이 발생하였다. 이 실험연구는 선형에 따른 선박 상호간 근접 시의 횡거리와 통과속력에 대한 기준 설정의 연구 근간을 마련하였고 선박간 교항시 안전운항을 위한 지침이 될 것으로 판단된다.

Collision Analysis of Submerged Floating Tunnel by Underwater Navigating Vessel (수중운항체에 대한 해중터널의 충돌해석)

  • In this paper, to recognize the collision behavior between a submerged floating tunnel(SFT) and underwater navigation vessel(UNV), both structures are modeled and analyzed. The SFT of collision point is modeled tubular section using concrete with steel lining. The other part of SFT is modeled elastic beam elements. Mooring lines are modeled as cable elements with tension. The under water navigation vessel is assumed 1800DT submarine and its total mass at collision is obtained with hydrodynamic added mass. The buoyancy force on SFT is included in initial condition using dynamic relaxation method. The buoyancy ratio (B/W) and the collision speed are considered as the collision conditions. As results, energy dissipation is concentrated on the SFT and that of the UNV is minor. Additionally, the collision behaviors are greatly affected by B/W and the tension of mooring lines. Especially, the collision forces are shown different tendency compare to vessel collision force of current design code.

  • Operation Abstract : Operational cost required for navigating a ship may differ from according to type, scale, economic speed, navigation area and other factors. However, it is known that the fuel oil price ratio takes 50~60 %. It is the current trend because of the use of poor quality fuel and it is reviewed even for small to medium sized ships to save the operational costs due to the recent rise of international oil price. Furthermore, ocean carriers are taking action to low speed navigation as the alternative method of reducing fuel consumption. Hence, in this study, fuel consumption of main engine was measured by using actual operating ship data compared with sea speed at sea. It was suggested that the area of M/E's load(70 %) lower than NCR is the optimal navigating condition through the relation between speed and fuel consumption compared with advance ratio together with the load.

  • Seakeeping safety module in Korean e-Navigation system is one of the ship remote monitoring services that is employed to ensure the safety of ships by monitoring the ship's real time performance and providing a warning in advance when the abnormal conditions are encountered in seakeeping performance. In general, seakeeping performance has been evaluated by simulating ship motion analysis under specific conditions for its design. However, due to restriction of computation time, it is not realistic to perform simulations to evaluate seakeeping performance under real-time operation conditions. This study aims to introduce a reasonable and faster method to predict a ship's roll motion which is one of the factors used to evaluate a ship's seakeeping performance by using a machine learning-based surrogate model. Through the application of various learning techniques and sampling conditions on training data, it was observed that the difference of roll motion between a given surrogate model and motion analysis was within 1%. Therefore, it can be concluded that this method can be useful to evaluate the seakeeping performance of a ship in real-time operation.

An Experimental Study on the Detection Characteristic of Draft Ice by Thermography System (열화상 시스템에 의한 유빙의 탐지특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Draft ice in polar regions is formed due to sea level changes and various environmental factors cause damage due to collision with offshore plants and ships for resource development. Drift ice in polar regions is a potential source of accidents for offshore plants that perform long-term operations in one place, as well as on the ship. To prevent accidents with drift ice, offshore plants and ships in polar regions use satellite image information and detection radar to detect drift ice. However, the inability to use visible satellite images at night significantly lowers the detection probability by radar for small drift ice. In this study, we used a thermal imaging system which can be operated day and night for the detection of drift ice, and carried out an experimental study on the detection characteristics of drift ice. To examine the night operation of the thermal imaging system, the experimental condition was set and the thermal image was measured according to the measurement angle change. Under this condition, the correlation was analyzed by theoretical calculating the radiant energy of the drift ice and the sea water.

  • This paper describes the detection method of wire-like obstacles using millimeter-wave radar system. Passive sensor like CCD camera can be used for the detection of high power electric cables on the hills or mountains and it can give very good quality of obstacle target information. But this system is very limited to use by bad weather condition. The detection capability for different diameters of wire targets using millimeter radar system have been accomplished. To simulate the target on the moving helicopter, rotating targets are used with fixed radar system. In the experiment 11mm, 16mm and 22mm diameter of wires have been detected in single, two and three wires in one position. The detected signal from single wire was very clear on gray level image. Three wires placed very closely together could be recognized in range, cross range image plane. For two and three wires, blur effect due to mutual scattering effect is observed.

An Analysis for the Night illuminance Affected on Light Environments and Weather Conditions (광환경과 기상조건에 따른 야간조도 영향 분석)

  • This study deals with the light environments and weather conditions affecting to the night illuminance over the Korean peninsula. The experiment was executed to analyze the effects on the illuminance at separate sites(Gyeryong and Pilseung) considering the different light environments. The analysis was applied to illuminance measurement from the lightmeter, which was developed for the IYA(International Year of Astronomy) 2009, in order to observe the illuminance of areal networks. The weather observations, such as the cloud cover and visibility, were used to understand the quantitative influence of the illuminance to the selected sites. The results show that the illuminance measurements are significantly different from data of the operational illuminance prediction model which simply applies extinction effect for the illuminance. It shows that these differences are caused by the light environments and weather conditions for each site. Therefore, it can be confirmed that the night illuminance is the output of interaction with the characteristics of light for luminous sources.

  • This paper considers the transfer alignment in the inertial navigation system and the observability analysis is performed for velocity matching. The state variable of the Kalman filter is modeled including the lever arm error and the measurement equation is obtained. The SOM(Stripped Observability Matrix) method is used for the observability analysis for various maneuvering conditions of the vehicle, which gives the full state observability condition as a specific maneuver sequence of the vehicle. While the observability analysis of a lever arm effect in the existing papers is mainly performed by simulations, we performed it analytically by the observability analysis method. The analysis result is verified using the computer simulations.
