The Effect of a 12-week Combined-Exercise Program on Physical Fitness and Fatigue for Cancer Survivors (12주간 복합운동프로그램이 암 생존자의 신체기능과 피로도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of a combined exercise program on the level of physical fitness and fatigue for cancer survivors. Methods: The subjects were all of 61 persons consisted of prostate cancer(n=22), breast cancer (n=20), and stomach cancer(n=19) survivors. The exercise program was composed of a wall exercise, a chair exercise, a towel exercise and a bottle exercise which lasted 50-60 minutes each, two times a week for 12 weeks. The outcome measures were the fat mass, the muscle mass, the grip strength, the sit and reach, the 6 minutes walk, & fatigue. Results: At the completion of the 12-week combined exercise program, there were statistically significant differences in the grip strength, the sit & reach, the 6 minutes walk, & fatigue for the prostate, breast, and stomach cancer survivors. But no significant differences were found in the muscle mass between the pretest and posttest. Conclusion: As the 12-week combined exercise program was proved to be an effective intervention for improving muscle strength, flexibility, cardiopulmonary fitness & fatigue, it is thought that the program can be utilized as a rehabilitation program for cancer survivors.

Effects of Walking Exercise Intensities on Fatigue, Serum Lipids and Immune Function among Middle-Aged Women (걷기운동의 강도가 중년여성의 피로, 혈중지질, 면역기능에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to confirm the effects of a moderate and fast walking exercise program on middle-aged women's fatigue, serum lipids and immunoglobulins. Method: A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used for this study. The experiment was conducted for 10 weeks from May 17th to July 25th, 2004 with 44 middle-aged women, consisting of 16 for the moderate walking group, 15 for the fast walking group and 13 for the control group. Result: Walking exercise at both a moderate and fast speed was effective in middle-aged women in reducing fatigue and serum lipids. It was also revealed that extended periods of exercise was more effective in decreasing fatigue while for reducing serum lipid, high intensity exercise was more effective. In this study, serum immunoglobulins were reduced after moderate and fast walking exercise but its cause was not fully understood so further research is needed. Conclusion: This study helps us recognize the importance of regular exercise and promotes motivation to exercise for a healthy life among middle-aged women.

A Study Median Frequency Analysis of Surface EMG on Gender Differences (성별에 따른 표면근전도의 중앙주파수 분석에 관한 연구)

  • Gender differences have been studied by using spectral features such as median frequency (MDF) respectively. MDF is the most commonly used as a feature to describe muscle conduction velocity. The aim of this paper is to detect gender differences from surface EMG signals during isotonic contractions of the bicep Brachii. Eight volunteers participated in surface EMG recordings placed on the biceps brachii and each recording experiment continued until their exhaustion. We used feature values and regressive slopes and compared the feature changes from the onset to the endurance time to find gender differences. The result of experiments shows that the regressive slope of these features is valid to measure gender differences.

Effects of Power Walking Exercise on Fatigue, Blood Lipids, and Body Composition in Overweight Korean College Students with Taeumin Constitution (빠르게 걷기 운동이 과체중 태음인 대학생의 피로, 혈중지질 및 신체조성에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: To examine the effects of power walking exercise on fatigue and overweight in college students with Taeumin constitution. Methods: According to results of the constitution diagnosis (QSCC II), 58 students who were identified as Taeumin, whose BMI was over 23 were assigned to one of three groups. The power walking group walked fast at a speed of 7,000 steps per hour using a pedometer, and the walking group walked at a speed of 5,000 steps per hour. There was no treatment with control group. Each group's fatigue level, blood lipids and body composition before and after the experiment were compared and analyzed. Results: Total fatigue and total cholesterol decreased significantly in the power walking group compared to the walking group and the control group. Weight decreased significantly in the power walking group compared to the control group, and percentage of body fat decreased significantly in both the power walking group and the walking group compared to the control group. Conclusion: When power walking exercise was used with overweight Taeumin students, fatigue, blood lipid, weight and percentage of body fat decreased significantly.

A Comparative Study on Pain, Fatigue, Flexibility and Health status between Patients with Self-Exercise and Patient without Self-Exercise (만성관절염 환자의 자가운동에 따른 통증, 피로, 유연성, 건강상태의 비교연구)

  • The purpose of this study was examine the effect of self-exercise on patients with chronic arthritis. This study was performed from 1999 to 2001 with 107 subjects. Pain, Fatigue, Flexibility and Health status were measured. Data were analysed by SPSSWIN 10. 0 Package program, frequency, independent t-test and One Way ANOVA. The results were as follows : Of the 107 patients who were sutdied, mean age was 62 years and most of common disease were osteoarthritis. 67.4%was doing self-exercise and self-exercise consisted of 17 types of exercise. Fatigue was statistically different by disease type, duration of disease, education respectively. And fatigue, left shoulder flexibility were significantly different by duration of disease. There weren't significant differences between patient with self-exercise and patient without self-exercise on pain fatigue, flexibility and halth status. These findings confirms that self-exercise do not effective in increasing health improvement for the patients with osteoarthritis. From results of this study indicate that patients with arthritis should have taken systematic exercise such as the self-help education program aquatic exercise program for arthritis patient.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify the effects for 4-weeks muscle strengthening exercise program on pain, fatigue, and physical function(muscle strength of leg, walking competence, balance, flexibility of patella) in elderly women with total knee arthroplasty(TKA). Method: Utilizing a quasi-experimental design, 30 TKA patients consisted of the experimental group (n=15) and control group (n=15). The experimental group participated in the muscle strengthening exercise program, twice a day for 4 weeks. Data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 18.0 program, using repeated measure ANOVA. Result: As time goes by, There were significant differences in muscle strength of leg (F=6.60, p<.001), walking competence(F=7.15, p<.001), and balance(F=17.55, p<.001) between the experimental and the control groups. Conclusion: The findings of this study revealed the positive effects of muscle strengthening exercise program in elderly women with TKA.

근육 피로도 분석시 사용되는 매개변수들간의 민감도 비교 연구

  • 근전도(EMG:Electromyogram)를 사용하여 국부 근육 피로(Localized Muscle Fatigue)를 정량화으로 분석 하기 위해 널리 이용되고 있는 AR(Autoregressive)모델의 1차 계수, RMS(Root Mean Square), ZCR(Zero Crossing Rate), MPF(Mean Power Frequency), MF(Median Frequency)를 선택하여, 근육이 발휘하는 힘과 시간의 흐름에 따라 근육 피로의 정도를 민감하게 나타내는 매개변수를 규명하였다. 피실험자 10명의 좌우 척추세움근(Erector Spinae Muscle)을 대상으로 등장수축(Sustained Isometric Contraction)조건에서 허리의 신전(Extension)운동을 실시하였다. 이때 발휘해야 하는 힘의 수준은 15%, 30%, 45%, 60%, 75% MVC 로 정하였고 각 수준마다 20초 동안 근전도를 측정하 였다. 데이터 분석은 총20초 구간의 근전도를 0.5초 간격으로 나누어 매개변수들을 각각 구하고 분석을 실시하였다. 시간의 흐름에 대한 피로도 분석 결과, AR 모델의 1차 계수와 MPF가 유의한 차이를 보였으며, 낮은 수준의 %MVC에서는 AR 계수가, 높은 수준에서는 MPF가 민감한 반응 결과를 나타냈다. 그리고 근육이 발휘하는 힘의 정도를 분석하기 위해 주로 사용되고 있는 RMS 보다는 더 AR 계수가 모든 수준에서 뚜렷하게 차이를 보인 것이 확인되었다. 따라서 AR 모델의 1차 계수가 근육의 피로 정도와 힘의 수준을 다른 매개변수에 비해 더욱 민감하게 구별함이 입증되었다. 이러한 결과는 다른 분야에서도 근육 피로를 정량적으로 측정하는데 사용될 수 있을 것으로 생각되며, 개인적 변이도를 고려한 확률 기법을 사용한다면 보다 정확한 근전도 분석이 이루어질 것으로 기대된다.있음을 알 수 있었다. 사료된다.의 결과는 자전거 에르고노미터의 결과가 트레드밀의 결과에 87.60%정도 나타났다.음을 관찰하였다. 특히 vitamin C와 E의 병용투여는 상승적으로 적용하여 간세포손상을 더욱 억제시킴을 알 수 있었다.mance and on TFP(Total Factor Productivity) growth which is a pure measure of firm performance. A Study on Relationship between Near Work and Eye Fatigue (근업시간과 눈 피로도와의 관련성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate eye fatigue and analyze symptoms of visual discomfort according to near work in young adults. A survey was conducted on 347 young adults aged 25.37 years (142 male and 205 female participants). The eye fatigue using Conlon questionnaire were surveyed and near work was investigated amounts of daily computer and smartphone. The score of eye fatigue was $13.65{\pm}7.11$ in less than 2 h/d, $16.83{\pm}6.77$ in 2~4 h/d, $18.88{\pm}6.60$ in 4~6 h/d, and $18.83{\pm}5.62$ in more than 6 hours(p=0.001). Also, headache(p<0.030), re-reading(p<0.036), and movement and fading(p<0.001) symptoms increased according to amounts of near work.

Effects of Combined Therapeutic Exercise on Improvement of Respiratory Function and Trunk Posture in Elderly Patients with Restrictive Lung Disease (치료적 복합운동이 제한성 폐질환 노인의 호흡기능과 체간자세 개선에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of trunk mobilization and stretching activities on respiratory function, trunk posture, and physical fatigue for elderlies with restrictive lung diseases and related respiratory impairment. The present study was conducted with ten subjects, participating for eight weeks between January and November 2014. Subjects performed trunk mobilization and stretching routines for 30 minutes per day for three days each week. The study results showed that there were significant improvements in FVC and FEV1, trunk posture, trunk movement and physical fatigue(p<.05). The study results verified that trunk mobilization and stretching activities can be used as respiratory orthopedic manual therapy to improve respiratory function, trunk posture, trunk movement and physical fatigue simultaneously for elderly with respiratory impairment. Continuous studies through therapeutic convergence with the exercise field along with the respiratory orthopedic manual therapy that used in this study for elderly people with restrictive lung diseases will be necessary for the future.

Anti-stress and Promoting Effect of the Fruit of Morus alba (상심자(Morus alba)의 운동능력 향상과 스트레스 개선효과)

  • Effects of Morus alba fruit extracts on monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity were examined in rats during and after physical exercise. Oral administration of M. alba extract (0.3 g/kg body weight) significantly increased brain MAO-A activity but decreased liver MAO-B activity when they were measured using serotonin and benzylamine as substrates. Type of physical exercises had significant effect on MAO activity. Brain MAO-A activity markedly decreased with physical activity-related stress compared to normal group, whereas Liver MAO-B activity increased up to 60 min after exercise. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity and lactate concentration in blood, clinical indices of physical exercise activities, were also determined for correlation to MAO activities. MAO-A activity of rats subjected to oral administration of M. alba extract and physical exercise increased whereas MAO-B and LDH activities, and lactate level decreased, All indices eventually recovered normal levels, These results suggest M. alba may increase capability of physical activities by modulating MAO activities during exercise.
