  • Present study investigated the differences in psychological tests responses between chronic motor tic disorder and tourette's disorder to clarify whether chronic motor tic and tourette's disorder constitute a single disorder on a continuum or not. Based on the diagnosis by child psychiatrists 29 chronic motor tic disorder and 10 tourette's disorder children between the age of 6 to 13 were selected, and the psychological tests responses of two diagnostic groups were compared. The results showed that tourette's disorder is more related to neulological problems than chronic motor tic disorder. Also it was found that children with tourette's disorder have more difficulties in social-emotional adjustment than children with chronic motor tic disorder. These results suggested that interactions among neurological factor, emotional factor and temperamental characristics might be more involved in tourette's disorder than in chronic motor tic disorder. The limitations of present study and the need for futher research on the comorbidity of tourette's disorder and ADHD were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics between athletes and non-athletes with eating disorders (ED)/disordered eating(DE) and to investigate predictors for ED/DE. 376 female collegiate athletes and 567 college women participated in the study. After using subject selection criteria to detect ED/DE, 243 athletes were considered as either ED (n=22) or DE (n=221). In the non-athletes group, 37 cases of ED and 242 cases of DE were detected. Along with the EDEQ and EDI-2, participants completed a demographic questionnaire, SATAQ, and RSES. The results indicated that the mean seperation between the two groups with ED existed in seven variables including BMI perceived, BMI ideal, EDEQ mean, eating scale, weight scale, perfectionism, and self-esteem. In addition, the means of six variables including BMI perceived, BMI ideal, perfectionism, SATAQ score, awareness, and self-esteem were significantly different between the two groups with DE. Significant predictors for ED/DE were drive for thinness and self-esteem in the non athletes while drive for thinness, body dissatisfaction, self-esteem, internalization, and perfectionism were the predictors in the athletes within the ED/DE group. The results suggest that drive for thinness and self-esteem were the essential predictors for ED/DE in the two groups. in the athletes with ED/DE, the predictors were more complicated than those in the non-athletes with ED/DE.

  • This study aimed to investigate pain, perceived exercise barriers, and related factors in arthritis patients. The study was conducted on 140 arthritis patients (89 rheumatoid arthritis patients and 51 osteoarthritis patients) who visited C University Hospital in Daejeon due to arthritis and agreed to participate in a survey. The self-administered survey was conducted from February 2011 to September 2011. The results are as follow. The perceived exercise barriers increased in both groups as the education level and monthly household income decreased. In the rheumatoid arthritis group, the pain became more intense as the self-rated health status became poorer while the perceived exercise barriers became more significant as the self-rated health status became poorer and the patients had other diseases besides arthritis. In the osteoarthritis group, the pain was greater as the duration of arthritis was longer and the self-rated health status became poorer. In both groups, the perceived exercise barriers became more significant as the exercise stage approached the pre-planning stage. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis showed that the most influential factor on pain in both groups was the 'very bad' self-rated health status. In the rheumatoid arthritis group, influential factors on the perceived exercise barriers were the exercise stage and the education level while for the osteoarthritis group, they were the exercise stage and the monthly household income. In conclusion, the results of this study showed that the pain and perceived exercise barriers of arthritis patients were associated with various factors such as the education level, monthly household income, self-rated health status, and exercise stage, which suggests that these factors should be considered in the planning of exercise programs.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between parental participation motivation, satisfaction, and intention to reuse children with developmental disabilities using psychomotor centers. To this end, a questionnaire survey was conducted on the parents of children participating in psycho-exercise programs at a private developmental disability center located in the metropolitan area. The collected data was 188 copies, and the causal relationship was verified through descriptive statistics, factor analysis and reliability analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis. As a result of the analysis, the following conclusions were obtained. First, in the relationship between parental participation motivation and satisfaction with regard to psychological exercise participation of children with developmental disabilities, only pleasure and social factors were significant in use satisfaction, and only social, health and physical fitness factors in performance satisfaction showed a significant influence. Second, in the relationship between participation motivation and intention to reuse, there were significant influences on pleasure, skill development and sense of achievement, and social factors. Third, in the relationship between satisfaction and intention to reuse, intention to reuse was significantly explained in factors of satisfaction with use and satisfaction with performance. In order to increase the reuse rate of psychomotor centers in the future, it is judged that additional analysis is necessary in addition to the measurement variables of this study.

  • Purpose of this study is to compare and analyze effect of exercise intensity in complex training for 8 weeks on leptin, growth hormone, IGF-1, and body composition in middle school with intellectual disability. Subjects of this study were 26 middle school students, 9 in high-intensity group, 9 in middle-intensity group, and 8 in low-intensity group. To compare the difference from different exercise intensity, pre-value before training has been set as covariate and different exercise intensity has been set as independent variable, with changes in leptin, growth hormone, IGF-1, and body composition. Analysis of covariance (ANOVA) has been performed for data analysis and effect size ${\eta}^2$(eta) has been deduced. Result acquired from analyzed data is as following. First, when equal exercise has been imposed on middle school students with intellectual disability, in regard of exercise intensity, it was shown that leptin most decreased in middle-intensity, growth hormone most increased in middle-intensity, and IGF-1 increased in low-intensity. Second, in regard of body composition, low-intensity was most effective in increase of total body weight without fat. Decrease of body fat was most prominent in middle-intensity and increase of bone density, in low-intensity. Also, in further studies, study that differentiates subjects in gender and individual exercise performance is deemed mandatory.

  • The neural mechanisms involved in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are largely unknown. In order to investigate the neuroanatomical lesions of attention deficit hyperactivity disorders and their relationships with psychopathology, Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography(SPECT) using HMPAO was performed in 46 ADHDS and Yale Children's Inventory(YCI), Conners Parent Questionaire and DSM-III-R Questionaire for Disruptive Behavior Disorder were used to assess the psychopathology of ADHDS The results are summarized as follows; 1) 30.4% (14/46) of this series revealed decreased perfusion In SPECT. 2) Regions of hypoperfusion were seen in cerebral cortex(17.4%, 8/46), thalamus(13.0%, 6/46), deep gray matter(8.7%, 4/46), basal ganglia(6.5%, 3/46) and cerebellum(2.2%, 1/ 46). 3) The mean scores of the total YCI revealed significant difference between the two groups(SPECT abnormal versus normal group), and among the subscales, hyperactivity, language and fine-motor subscales showed significant differences between the two groups. Although the relationship between the abnormal findings and specific symptom clusters of ADHDS remains unclear, we can suggest that these abnormal findings could be associated with ADHD, and based on these findings, the ADHDS can be subclassified into two groups. This study can be said to reinforce the current conception of heterogeneity of ADHD.
