  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 6 weeks hip joint strengthen on muscle strength, dynamic posture control and low extremity injury criterion. Twenty athletics were divided into two groups, the exercise group was conducted for three times a week, 60 minutes, and six weeks. The dependent variables of this study were flexibility, muscular strength, dynamic posture control, and lower body injury criterion. The results of this study showed that the flexibility was not significant, but muscle strength was significant difference. The dynamic posture control was significantly effective in the left posterolateral and posteromedial. In addition, total score was significantly exercise effect, and there was no difference between left and right leg length. In conclusion, hip joint strengthen increased muscle strength and dynamic posture control, and decreased the concern of low extremity injury criterion.

  • Wave exciting force and moment generate the motions of a ship in waves. Since ship motion exerts the negative influences on a crew's operability, the safety of cargos, passenger's comfort, etc, the anti-rolling devices may be required to reduce such motion In this paper, the dynamics of the anti-rolling devices such as passive and active moving weight stabilizer and anti-rolling tank, and fin stabilizer are mathematically modeled While the effect of the motion of the anti-rolling device on a ship was taken into consideration in roll mode only in the past, the 6 DOF coupled equations of motion between a ship and the anti-rolling devices are constituted Finally the motion of a ship with anti-rolling devices in waves is simulated through the developed simulation program.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the effects of whole-body vibration and to provide scientific basis for effective exercise by analyzing the differences in lower extremity muscle activation according to squat position during whole body vibration. In this study, muscle activation during whole-body vibration was measured in 10 healthy males in their 20s with no orthopedic conditions during standing posture, deep squat, half squat, and heel raise squat. Muscle activation was compared by measuring the root mean square (RMS) with electromyography electrodes attached to lateral gastrocnemius, tibialis anterior, vastus lateralis, and biceps femoris. The vibration intensity was applied in combinations of the volumes of 50 and 80 and the frequencies of 10, 25, and 40 Hz in each posture. The results showed that there were differences in muscle activations of external gastrocnemius, tibialis anterior, and vastus lateralis among the position(p<.05). The heal raise squat was found to have a high muscle activation effect.

  • In previous studies, the dynamic exercise equipment just focused on the trunk stabilization exercise. However, our study is targeted at evaluation for the impact on the postural balance of those researches. Twelve male and twelve female subjects were volunteered for the balance training using this system. They had no medical history of backpain for the past six months. Trunk Stability and postural balance training was performed for 15 minutes a day, three times a week duing four weeks. To evaluate characterization of the postural balance using Balance System SD, Evaluation consist of the postural stability test and the postural limit test. As a result, this training with 3D dynamic exercise equipment help subjects improve the postural balance. These results are expected for using basic materials to the elderly with a high risk of falling and trained athletes needed to be a postural control.

  • The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effects of sling exercise program on muscle activity and cervical spine curvature of person with forward head posture. The subjects, 25 students, were divided into two groups. This experiment was intended to examine the muscle activity and cervical spine curvature while the subjects had performed the exercises to do for 2 times/week and 4 weeks. The factors of FHP were measured cranial vertical angle, cranial rotation angle, muscular activity and cervical spine curvature. Cervical spine curvature measured craniovertical, craniocervical, cervicohorizontal and upper cervical angle. Collected data were statistically analyzed by SPSS 10.0. After experiment for 4 weeks period, results were as following: Both group was significant difference of the results according to the CVA. Exercise group are more effective to increase muscle activity (p<.05), but cervical spine curvature was no significant difference. This result, we could find out there was a significant correlation between sling exercise and muscle activity, CVA and CRA.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of bridging using Swiss ball, whole body vibration (WBV), and mat on trunk and lower extremity muscle activity and postural stability. The results were as follows: 1) EMG activity of internal oblique increased significantly in WBV condition compared with mat condition (p<.05). 2) EMG activity of rectus femoris and medial gastrocnemius increased significantly in Swiss ball condition and WBV condition compared with mat condition (p<.05). 3) The muscle activity of medial hamstrings increased significantly in Swiss ball condition compared with mat condition (p<.05). 4) The limit of stability in three groups increased significantly in all directions after 4-week intervention (p<.05). 5). There were no significant differences in the limit of stability among three groups after 4-week intervention (p>.05). Therefore the trunk and lower extremity muscle activity increased in Swiss ball and WBV conditions, and postural stability was improved in three groups after intervention period.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the ability to maintain dynamic posturography(EquiTest) in gymnastic, freestyle skier, and figure skater. A total of 32 subjects(22 athletic woman and 10 collegiate woman) were participated in this study. Computerized dynamic posturography(EquiTest) was adopted to test sensory organization and motor control. EquiTest facilitated the quantification of the role of somatosensory, visual and vestibular systems in the maintenance of postural balance and was also pertinent to measure the reaction time to the stimulus to change center of gravity on force platform. As a result were as follow. There was not difference among with exercise group. But there was a significantly difference with between groups. It was suggested that the acrobatic and physical activity developed the function of visual system and the role of the combination of visual and vestibular system in maintaining postural balance to surrounding stimulus, and presented shorter reaction time in automatic postural response.

  • This study aimed to analyze the effect of flexi-bar exercise on changes in postural alignment and balance of juvenile soccer players. The subjects were juveniles soccer players divided into exercise and control groups of 10 players each. The exercise group performed a flexi-bar exercise for 30 minutes a day three times weekly for eight weeks, and the differences in postural alignment and balance before and after the experiment and between study groups were analyzed. The measurements before the subjects exercised revealed overall asymmetric postural alignments and balance toward the right and rear sides. The study results showed that the exercise group had a statistically significant improvement in the height and angle of both shoulder, scapula, pelvis and hands(p<.05) after performing the exercise. Changes in balance showed that the exercise group had statistically significant reduction in changes in curve length(p<.05). The study verified that flexi-bar exercise can be effective for improving the postural alignment and balance of juvenile soccer players.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of deep neck flexion exercise(DNFE) and thoracic range of motion exerecise(TROM) on the pain and forward head position(FHP) in stroke patients. Thirty-six patients were randomly assigned to DNFE group, TROM group, and control group. pre and post intervention, pain(VAS), Craniovertebral angle(CVA), cranial rotation angle(CRA), FHP, and TROM were measured. As a result. The DNFE group and the TROM group showed significant differences in VAS, CVA, CRA, FHP, and TROM pre and post intervention(p <.05), and the two groups showed VAS, CVA, CRA, FHP, and TROM compared to the control group (p <.05). In conclusion, in patients with stroke, DNFE and TROM were effective in restoring FHP and neck pain. We hope that they will be used in the interventional program for stroke patients in clinical practice.
