  • In this study, the effects of driver's neuroticism on situation awareness(SA), eye movement(EM), and driving performance were examined. In Experiment 1, in which static driving scenes were presented, it was found that the drivers of higher neuroticism showed shorter percentage of dwell time and less percentage of fixation counts for the peripheral area than those of lower neuroticism, although SA scores yielded no difference between the two neuroticism groups. In Experiment 2, differences in the drivers' driving performances as well as SA and EM as a function of neuroticism were compared using driving simulation. The results of Experiment 2 showed the followings. First, contrasting to Experiment 1, the high neuroticism group showed lower SA score than low neuroticism group. Second, the pattern of EM was similar to those of Experiment 1. Third, high neuroticism group deviated more from center of road, and drove slower than low neuroticism group.

  • In the U.S. where Direct-to-Consumer Advertising (DTCA) of prescription medications is permitted, spending on DTCA has been accelerating. As a result, it has been an issue of intense public policy attention regarding whether DTCA is beneficial to the public by promoting a healthy lifestyle. Most of the literature concerning DTCA focuses on its impact on demand and empirical evidence regarding its impact on health-related behavior is scant. This study uses a database of DTCAs for high blood cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes, and overweight treatment medications that have appeared in nationally circulated U.S. consumer magazines during 2000 to 2004 and the Simmons National Consumer Survey in order to compute the level of individual advertising exposure and examines whether those who are exposed to DTCA are more likely to engage in regular exercise and diet control. The study finds evidence that for those with chronic conditions, greater exposure to DTCA leads to less exercise but more diet control. By therapeutic class level, exposure to DTCA leads to less exercise for those with hypertension and who are overweight, whereas those with high blood cholesterol are more likely to engage in regular exercise. Looking into differential responses by socioeconomic status, those with less education are more likely to engage in exercise after being exposed to DTCA. The results imply that the effects of DTCA vary by therapeutic class. In order to enhance the benefits of DTCA, it is important to closely monitor the messages in DTCA and require it to include messages that promote lifestyle change should it be a part of the treatment.

  • In this paper, we develop a muscle exercise prescription system and present a prescription method by analyzing bioelectric signal of human muscles. This system is designed to give right exercise prescriptions include strength, duration, frequency of exercise after diagnosing personal body condition using EMG(Electromyography). With the help of these prescriptions all users can keep there optimum exercise status and avoid excess exercise symptom and, we van utilize in all the measurements like abnormal posture, muscle power, muscle regidity, muscle fatigue, muscle balance. Also easily accessable system can offer variable utilizations such as in health care center, sports center, social welfare center, social medical center, school, and kinder garden.

  • This study investigated global and local characteristics of eye movement while 30 college students read easy and difficult Korean texts. It was found that readers who read the difficult text fixated longer for about 217ms and made shorter saccades of about 3.7 characters while readers who read the easy one fixated for about 190ms and made saccades of about 4.8 characters. Single fixation times and gaze durations in the difficult text were longer than those in the easy one(227ms vs. 195ms; 266ms vs. 210ms). In both easy and difficult texts, the effects of word frequency and eojeol length were found. In addition, the differences in fixation times according to word frequency and length were larger in the difficult text.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide foundations for proper stretching method not to lose muscle strength caused by shrink of muscle for preventing injury and improving performance when we make training programs. This study compared and analyzed isokinetic variables related to the static stretching frequency of knee joint extensor by isokinetic instruments applied to normal adults. 45 normal adults are randomly sampled into 3 different groups. All the measured variables were processed with SPSS and, means and standard deviations at each angle speed were calculated. The difference of means between before and after stretching of each groups were processed by paired t-test. One-way ANOVA and after test(Duncan) This study was able to see that stretching decrease acute isokinetic muscle strength High frequency stretching group showed more efficient decrease of muscle strength than low frequency stretching group. As a result, making training program for a game requiring strong muscle strength should consider proper stretching method not to lose muscle strength.

  • This paper aimed to find out the differences of DDK performances of 37 normally developing children in the range of 4-6 years. DDK tasks included with the Consonant-Vowel(CV) syllables and with the Vowel-Vowel(VV) syllables. For DDK rate, all spoken AMR and SMR in one second were measured by Multi-Speech, and analyzed with Motor Speech Profile for DDK regularity. Error frequency and type in DDK performance were transcribed and auditorily judged by two professional speech pathologists. The findings in this study were follow as: First, DDK rate became faster as the age of children were increased. But there were no statistical differences between the groups for age. Second, there was no significant differences the CV and VV syllables of DDK tasks. Third, the frequency of articulatory error in DDK performance was significantly higher in the age of 4 than other two groups.

  • Since walking and physical activity are critical for older adults to maintain their health, it is important to provide neighborhood environments which encourage their walking in daily life. The purposes of the present study were to investigate walking activity patterns of older people in an urban setting and to identify environmental correlates with walking of older adults. This study examined spatial and temporal patterns of physical activities, environmental barriers and motivations, satisfaction levels and demands on the physical environment. In-depth interviews with older adults over age sixty residing in Seoul metropolitan areas revealed that most respondents have a positive perception on walking in daily life, and many of them walk regularly for their health. A primary purpose of walking for older adults was exercise for health rather than transportation. The study result demonstrated that parks and trails were the most preferred places for walking by older adults, and there is an association between frequency of walking participation and access or convenience to parks, traffic safety, and street lights. Most respondents were concerned about traffic safety when they walk in their neighborhoods due to traffic speeds and unsafe streets. Lack of separate sidewalks or benches, stairs and slopes were barriers to older adults' walking habits. This data suggests that the promotion of walking behavior among older adults, some level of public health action, and community support are needed to ensure safe physical environments within communities.
