The purpose of this study is to investigate the levels of depression of the college students, and correlation of depression and anxiety, unemployment stress, self-esteem, and finally to explore the moderating effect of resilience between those variables. The participants of the survey were 298 college students. The data were analyzed with t-test, ANOVA test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and moderated multiple regression by SPSS Win 18.0. The major findings were as follow; students appear to have more depression when they are female, in 1st, 2nd, 4th grades than 3rd grade, and in a low economical status. Students' depression had a positive correlation with anxiety and unemployment stress, and had a negative correlation with self-esteem, resilience. In moderated multiple regression analysis, self-esteem and anxiety were influenced by resilience such as self-control ability. Therefore, the intervention strategies for decreasing depression of college students should include development of resilience, especially self-control ability in specific, besides control of the anxiety and unemployment stress.
Objectives : In this study, we evaluate psychological stress, symptoms of anxiety and depressed mood and resilience which medical residents and interns perceived during COVID-19 event, then investigate the associations between stress and the symptoms and mediating effect of resilience on the associations. Methods : In this study, we made a self-reporting form to evaluate psychological stress with perceived stress scale (PSS), symptoms of anxiety and depressed mood with Hospital anxiety and depression scale (HAD), and resilience with Conner-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Medical residents and interns, who worked in a hospital during COVID-19 event, filled the self-reporting forms from july, 2020 to august, 2020. We conducted a Pearson correlation coefficient and a multiple regression to confirm association between psychological stress and symptoms of anxiety and depressed mood, then mediating effect of resilience. Results : The higher stress perceived, the more symptoms of anxiety and depressed mood were reported by medical residents and interns. The higher resilience is associated with lower stress and less symptoms of anxiety and depressed mood, which resilience is proven to mediate partially the association between stress and symptoms of depressed mood. Conclusions : This study shows that resilience has a partial mediating effects on the association between stress and psychological pathology especially depressed mood, given that medical residents and interns were under psychological distress during COVID-19 event. This suggests that resilience is the key for medical trainees to overcome the future crisis like COVID-19 event.
This is a descriptive research to find out the effect of office workers resilience, depression and stress. The research subjects were 123 office workers in one location and data were collected from August 1 to 20, 2018. Collected data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The research results showed negative correlation between office workers resilience and their depression(r=-.195, p=.040), stress (r=-.424, p=.000). Sub-factors of resilience to affect their depression were satisfaction level in their lives (β=-.299, p=.001) and relationship(β=.300 p=.002). Sub-factors of resilience to affect their stress were satisfaction level in their lives(β=-.315, p=.001). This research was helpful to understand office workers resilience and it is necessary to develop a variety of education and training programs to enhance this.
This study was aimed to examine the association between resilience and mental health among individuals aged 65 and older. The number of the sample was 2,004 older people living in Chuncheon city. The dependent variables were measured with depression and mental well-being. Depression was measured by the Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression(CES-D) 10 items. Mental well-being was measured by Korean version of the Mental Health Continuum-Short Form(K-MHC-SF). The independent variable, resilience, was measured with the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale(CD-RISC). Adjusted for age, gender, region, education, living arrangement, religion, employment, income, and self-rated health, a logistic regression analysis result showed that resilience was negatively associated with depression among older adults. On the other hand, a multiple regression analysis result showed that resilience was positively associated with mental well-being among older adults. The study findings suggest that resilience can promote mental health in later life. Implications for older adults suffering from mental health problems are also discussed.
Purpose: This study is to investigate factors affecting depression in nursing students. Methods: A survey was conducted with 216 nursing students in college at P city, D city, and K province. Data was collected from April 15 to May 21, 2018, and analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA and hierarchical regression with IBM SPSS Statistics 24.0. Results: There was a significant positive correlation between verbal violence and depression(r=.261, p<.001), between physical threat and depression(r=.291, p<.001). Also, Self-esteem had a significant positive correlation with resilience(r=.685, p<.001) and negative correlation with depression(r=-.590, p<.001). Moreover, resilience had a significant negative correlation with depression(r=-.612, p<.001). In the hierarchical analysis, factors affecting the nursing students' depression were resilience(${\beta}=-.337$, p<.001), self-esteem(${\beta}=-.279$, p<.001), physical threat(${\beta}=.177$, p=.001). The variable that had the highest impact on depression was resilience and the explanatory power of the regression model was 51.5%(F=17.965, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that the major factors influencing nursing students depression are physical threat, self-esteem and resilience. Therefore, it suggests that an intervention program will be required to prevent violence during the clinical practice, enhances self-esteem and improves resilience in order to reduce depression of nursing students.

The purposes of this study were to examine the depression level of sales workers at a cosmetics company in South Korea and investigate the effects of emotional labor, job stress, and resilience on their depression symptoms. A structured questionnaire was distributed to 189 workers at the cosmetics company to assess their general characteristics, diseases diagnosed by the doctor, depression, emotional labor, job stress, and resilience. Univariate analysis and multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted to examine connections among depression symptoms, emotional labor, job stress, and resilience. The findings show that the depression symptom rate of the cosmetics sales workers was 32.3%. The multiple logistic regression analysis results of the high risk group in depression symptoms show that depression had significant relations with resilience(OR : 3.84, CI : 1.68-8.77), diseases diagnosed by the doctor(OR : 3.82, CI : 1.73-8.47), emotional disharmony(OR : 2.51, CI : 1.06-5.96), and job demand(OR : 2.12, CI : 0.93-4.85). The low risk group of emotional labor was corrected in age, doctor's diagnosis, and job stress with the reference value to analyze connections with depression symptoms according to the degree of resilience. The analysis results show that depression symptoms increased by 2.35 times(CI : 0.73-7.53) when they had high emotional labor and good resilience, by 3.74 times(CI : 1.17-11.97) when they had low emotional labor and bad resilience, and by 10.39 times(CI : 3.34-32.28) when they had high emotional labor and bad resilience. These findings raise a need to run a program to increase resilience, reduce emotional disharmony through emotional labor management, and take health management measures to control physical illness and lower job stress so that cosmetics sales workers can manage their depression symptoms.
People who face retirement in aging society experience changes in resilience and psychological depression. As the baby boomer generation, which has played a central role in Korea's economic and social sectors, begins retiring, interest in their post-retirement lives has also increased. Thus, this study investigates the effects of a forest healing program using forest healing factors of ecological forests on the resilience and depression of baby-boomer retirees. This experiment divided 58 subjects in the baby boomer generation into three groups and examined differences among the groups. The result showed that the subjects in the forest healing program group (FHPG) had a very significant increase in resilience and a statistically significant decrease in depression compared to those in the forest healing program non-participation group (FHNG) and the daily life group (DLG). Therefore, it can be said participating in the forest healing program is more effective for retirees than voluntary forest activities. The results of this study can be used as basic data for research on the resilience and depression of retirees.
