  • The present study investigated the relationship between parental problem drinking and risk for malajustment in adolescents. A group of adolescent children of problem drinkers(126 boys, 210 girls) and a group of children of non-problem drinkers(190 boys, 222 girls) were compared on demographic variables, perceived relationships with parents(parental care and parental over-protection), depression, anxiety, alcohol expectancies, alcohol involvement and self-reported delinquency. Adolescent children of problem drinkers reported lower level of perceived parental care and higher level of perceived parental overprotection compared to the children of nonproblem drinkers. They also reported higher depression, anxiety and alcohol expectancies, as well as more alcohol involvement and delinquent behaviors. Multiple regression analyses were performed seperately for male and female adolescents with depression, anxiety, alcohol expectancies, alcohol involvement and self-reported delinquency as outcome variables. Adolescents' emotional distress(depression and anxiety) was associated with perceived relationships with parents rather than parental problem drinking, but adolescents' alcohol problems and delinquency were associated with parental problem drinking and adolescents' emotional distress rather than their perceived relationships with parents.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of adjunctive aripiprazole versus bupropion on specific symptoms of depression. Methods : Data were from 6-week, randomized, prospective, open-label multi-center study in 103 patients with major depressive disorders. Participants were randomized to receive aripiprazole (2.5-10 mg/day) or bupropion (150-300 mg/day) for 6 weeks. Change in four subscales of the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D17) that capture core depression symptoms was determined, and change in individual HAM-D17 items was also assessed. Changes in three composite subscales-anxiety, insomnia, and drive were also examined. Results : Within-group change in the four core subscales was large [effect size (ES)=1.30-1.47] and it was similar to that in the HAM-D17 total score. Differences between aripiprazole and bupropion were significant for each of the four core subscales and the HAM-D17 total score favored aripiprazole (p<0.001). On three composite scales, both treatments caused substantial changes in anxiety (within-group ES=1.10 (aripiprazole) vs. 1.00 (bupropion)], insomnia (ES=0.75 vs 0.50), and drive (ES=1.17 vs 1.15). Conclusion : This results suggested that both aripiprazole and bupropion adjunctive therapies with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors resulted in significant and clinically meaningful changes in core symptom subscales for depression.

  • This study examined the convergent relationship of stress factors related to the depression level(CES-D) of a college student. The questionnaire was used using an unregistered self-administered questionnaire for 304 students from a college located in J area from Nov. 12, 2018 to Dec. 14, 2018. The hierarchical multiple regression analysis results are as follows: The depression level of respondents turned out to be significantly higher in following groups: a group in which job seeking stress(CMI) is higher, a group in which academic burnout(MBI-SS) is higher, a group in which anxiety(BAI) are higher. The results show explanatory power of 60.7%. The results of the study indicate that the efforts, to decrease job seeking stress, to decrease academic burnout and, to decrease anxiety, are required to decrease the depression level among college students. These results can be utilized in various interventional efforts for academic counseling and guidance, job counseling, and psychological and emotional stability that lowers the depression level in college students. Following studies requires the presentation and analysis of structural models for the structural model that effects the depression levels of college students.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of social anxiety among late School-aged Children and identify factors influencing the tendency to social anxiety. A self-report survey was conducted with primary school children who were in the 6th grades. Two hundred and seventy eight children were included in the study. The instruments utilized in this study were SASCA-K (Korean Social Anxiety Scale for children and adolescents), SES(Self-esteem Scale), CAPS(Child and Adolescent Perfectionism Scale), DSRS-C(Depression Self-Rating Scale for Children), and IPPA-R(Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment-Revised version). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and multiple regression with SPSS WIN 23.0 program. Social anxiety for the schoolchildren was positively correlated with perfectionism and depression, whereas self-esteem and attachment security was negatively correlated with social anxiety. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that 38.0% of the variance for social anxiety was significantly accounted for by self-esteem, self-oriented perfectionism, depression, attachment security (Father-communication). The most significant factor influencing social anxiety was self-esteem. Findings suggest that expanding health education, counseling and school-based health education programs is necessary to prevent and intervention mental problems of late School-aged Children through integrated intervention by schools, families and communities.
