As a result, first, open communication with mothers has a statistically significant effect on the rational career decision-making style and open communication with fathers has a statistically significant effect on the intuitive career decision-making style of adolescents. Second, self-esteem of adolescents showed a positive correlation with rational career decision-making style and negative correlation with dependent career decision-making style, and depression showed a positive correlation with dependent career decision-making style. The results may help to understand the relationship among the parent-adolescent communication styles, self-esteem, depression and career decision-making styles and be used for counseling intervention.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of grandparenting on the grandparent's level of depression. In addition, it is to test the mediating effect of social support and the moderating effect of household type on the relationships between variables. The 555 grandparent sample in this study was from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging(KLoSA). The findings indicated that grandparenting(grandparenting time per day and total weeks of grandparenting per year) was significantly related to the grandparent's level of depression. In addition, the grandparent's age was also associated with grandparenting, grandparent's depression, and social support. Grandparent's health condition and marital status was associated with social support. Grandparent's gender had a significant relationship with grandparent's depression and grandparenting time per day. Social support had a direct effect to the grandparent's depression; however, it was not a statistically significant mediator between grandparenting and grandparent's depression. In addition, household type was not a significant moderator of measuring the relationships among grandparenting, grandparent's depression, and social support. Implications for social work practice were discussed based on the result of the study.

  • In some studies regarding acculturation strategies developed Berry(1997), not the preference for integration, but the preference for assimilation showed the best adjustment, which is different from the results of the majority of studies. For the reason of these results, we supposed that when the people of the host society expect the minority members to be assimilated to the host society and the minority members have very similar culture to the host society, the preference for assimilation in the minority members would show the best adjustment. And we tested this hypothesis with Korean-Chinese who had very similar culture to Korean culture and Han-Chinese who had very different culture from Korean culture. For two hundred and twenty five students(63 Korean-Chinese and 162 Han-Chinese), we asked them to complete a questionnaire including Acculturation Strategies Scale, Psychological Well-being Scale, and Depression Inventory. Data from the survey were analysed using two-way ANOVA. As a result, the interaction effect of acculturation strategies and ethnic types affected both of psychological well-being and depression. In details, for Korean-Chinese students, the preference for assimilation showed the highest levels of psychological well-being and the lowest levels of depression, but the preference for integration showed the lowest levels of psychological well-being and the highest levels of depression. For Han-Chinese students, the preference for integration showed the highest levels of psychological well-being and the lowest levels of depression, and the preference for marginalization showed the lowest levels of psychological well-being and the highest levels of depression. We discussed the meanings of the results, implications, and interventions to help Chinese students adjust Korean society.

  • This study investigates convergent influence on job seeking stress and its association with self esteem, hopelessness, depression, locus of control and type A behavior pattern among some college women. The survey was administered to 531 college women in Jeonbuk area from March 28th to April 29th, 2016. The structured self-administered questionaries were used. The results of hierarchical multiple regression analysis show the following. The job seeking stress of respondents turned out to be significantly higher in following groups: a group in which self esteem is lower and groups in which hopelessness, depression, external locus of control and type A behavior pattern are higher. Their explanatory power was 43.2%. With the analysis of covariance structure, we could confirm relationship among the four factors such as self esteem, hopelessness, depression, locus of control, type A behavior pattern and job seeking stress. The results of the study indicate that the efforts, to increase self esteem, and to decrease hopelessness, depression, locus of control and type A behavior pattern, are required to reduce the job seeking stress of the college women. The results are expected to be useful for the development of program and policy to decrease the job seeking stress of the college women. In the following study, the analysis about additional factors of influence on job seeking stress will be needed.

  • The purpose of this paper is to empirically grasp the influence on self-efficacy and depression and the relationship between variables, focusing on middle-aged women in their 40s and 50s who are psychologically and socially vulnerable. Through this, it was intended to explore the psychological problems of highly educated careerinterrupted women from a personal perspective and further derive implications for the development of policies and services for socially highly educated career-interrupted women. The relationship between variables was analyzed through a survey based on measurement tools structured by variables of Saju factors, self-efficacy, and depression, and the effect of the sub-dimensional characteristics of Saju structure on self-efficacy, and the resulting level of depression were verified through structural equation model analysis. Bigeop, Jaeseong, and Kwanseong have been found to have a positive and direct effect on self-efficacy and negative direct effect on depression, eventually increasing self-efficacy and lowering depression. It was found that Siksang had a positive (+) relationship with depression and a negative (-) relationship with self-efficacy, but Inseong did not directly affect self-efficacy and depression. In addition, the indirect effects between variables and the effects between self-efficacy and depression were identified.

  • The primary goal of the present study was to examine the moderating effects of coping strategies, cultural identity, and bicultural self-efficacy on the relationship between perceived discrimination and depressive symptoms of Korean Canadian college students. Data were collected from 214 Korean Canadian college students studying in Canada through an online and offline survey. A direct effect of perceived discrimination on depressive symptoms and the moderating effects of coping strategies on the relationship between perceived discrimination and depressive symptoms were examined by using hierarchical regression analysis. And three-way interaction of perceived discrimination, coping strategies, and cultural identity, and perceived discrimination, coping strategies, and bicultural self-efficacy on depressive symptoms were examined. Results from a hierarchical regression indicated that perceived discrimination significantly predicted depressive symptoms and this finding is in line with previous studies. Second, reflective, suppressive, and reactive coping strategies did not moderate the relationship between perceived discrimination and depressive symptoms. Third, the three-way interaction effect of perceived discrimination, suppressive coping strategy, and heritage identity predicted the depressive symptoms. Low heritage identity, high level of perceived discrimination and the frequent use of suppressive coping strategy increased the level of depressive symptoms. Fourth, the three-way interaction effect of perceived discrimination, coping strategies, and bicultural self-efficacy did not predict the depressive symptoms. Limitations and applied implications of the results are discussed.

  • In the current study, the effects of living-alone older adults' social participation on their depressive symptoms were assessed. Data of 924 older adults from the Aging Research Panel Survey were analyzed. The results show that the effects of older adults' social participation on depressive symptoms vary depending on the types of social participation and gender. Men attending school or hometown alumni meetings and clan gatherings showed fewer depressive symptoms; women participating in informal social gatherings or organizations for leisure, culture, and sports had fewer depressive symptoms. The results suggest that living-alone older adults' gender and dimensions of social participation should be considered when designing programs and services to reduce their depressive symptoms.
