Cyclic Seismic Testing of Concrete-filled U-shaped Steel Beam-to-Steel Column Connections (콘크리트채움 U형 강재보-강재기둥 합성 내진접합부에 대한 주기하중 실험)

  • In this study, seismic resistance of concrete encased U-shaped steel beam-to-steel H-shaped column connections was evaluated. Three specimens of the beam-to-column connection were tested under cyclic loading. The composite beam was integrated with concrete slab using studs. Re-bars for negative moment were placed in the slab. The primary test parameter was the details of the connections, which are strengthening and weakening strategies for the beam end and the degree of composite action. The depth of the composite beams was 600mm including the slab thickness. The steel beam and the re-bars in the slab were weld-connected to the steel column. For the strengthening strategy, cover plates were weld-connected to the bottom and top flanges of the steel beam. For the weakening strategy, a void using styrofoam box was located inside the core concrete at the potential plastic hinge zone. The test results showed that the fully composite specimens exhibited good strength, deformation, and energy dissipation capacities. The deformation capacity of the beam exceeded 4% rotation angle, which is the requirement for the Special Moment Frame.

A Study on Friction Welding of A2024-T6 and SM45C using Insert Metals (삽입재를 사용한 A2024-T6와 SM45C의 마찰용접에 관한 연구)

  • This study was undertaken to investigate the friction welding of A2024-T6 aluminum alloy and SM45C carbon steel using insert metals. The relationships among the friction welding conditions, the tensile strength of joints, the hardness distribution of welds, the microstructure of welds and the tensile fracture surfaces were mainly investigated through this experiment. When the A6063-T5 aluminum alloy of insert metal was used, the maximum tensile strengh of joint was obtained. In this case, the maximum joint efficiency was 75.3 percent and in the case of unusing the insert metals, it was 37.7 percent. Optimal welding conditions were N=2000rpm, P$_1$=40MPa, P$_2$=140MPa, t$_1$=1.0sec and t$_2$=5sec.

  • Welding characteristics of austienite 304 stainless steel and SM45C using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser are experimentally investigated. Laser beam welding is increasingly being used in welding of structural steels. The laser welding process is one of the most advanced manufacturing technologies owing to its high speed and deep penetration. This paper describes the weld ability of SM45C carbon steel and austienite 304 stainless steel for machine structural use by Nd:YAG laser.

  • The Nd:YAG laser process is known to have high speed and deep penetration capability to become one of the most advanced welding technologies. In spite of its good mechanical characteristics, SM45C carbon steel has a high carbon contents and suffers a limitation in the industrial application due to the poor welding properties. The major process parameters studied in the present laser welding experiment were position of focus, travel speed and laser power.

  • 비파괴검사(NDT)란 시험품에 손상을 주지 않고 내.외부에 존재하는 불연속부(결함)을 찾아내는 방법으로 다음과 같이 그 종류를 분류할 수 있다. (1) 표면결함 검출을 위한 비파괴검사 - 육안검사(VT) : 확대경 등에 의한 치수, 형상확인 - 자분탐상검사(MT) : 강자성체에 적용, 표면(하) 결함검출 - 침투탐상검사(PT) : 금속, 비철금속에 적용, 표면개구 결함검출 - 와류탐상검사(ET) : 도체 표층부(봉, 관 등) (2) 내부결함 검출을 위한 비파괴검사 - 방사선 투과검사(RT) : 결함의 종류, 형상의 판별 우수 - 초음파 탐상검사(UT) : 균열 등 면상 결함검출 등 우수 (3) 기타 비파괴검사 - Strain 측정 : 안전성 평가 - 음향방출시험(AET) - 누설시험(LT) - 중성자 방사선시험(NRT) 이상에서 보는 바와 같이 여러 종류의 비파괴검사가 있으나, 그 중에서 용접부에 적용되는 가장 일반적인 검사방법인 방사선 투과검사에 대해 기술하고자 한다.

Effects of Upset Pressure on Weldability in the Friction Welding of Cu to Cu-W Sintered Alloy (동-텅스텐 소결합금(Cu-W)과 동(Cu)의 마찰용접 특성에 미치는 업셋압력의 영향에 관한 연구)

  • A copper-tungsten sintered alloy(Cu-W) has been friction welded to a tough pitch copper in order to investigate the effect of upset pressure on friction weldability. Under the condition of friction time 0.8sec, upset pressure 150MPa, the tensile strength and Charpy impact value of the friction welded joint were 336MPa, $400KJ/m^2$ respectively. And highest temperature of the weld measured was below $800^{circ}K$ which is very lower than melting point of Cu($1356^{circ}K$). Under the same conditions, W grains picked up in Cu matrix from Cu-W profitably affected on these mechanical fracture, and were dispersed in Cu by plastic flow during brake time.

  • 1) 자체 제작한 NCP인 A, B, C 3종은 상용화 제품에 비해 도포성에 관련한 특성은 우수한 것으로 나타났으나 Tg 등의 열특성은 개선이 필요한 것으로 판단된다. 2) 접합강도의 경우 4종의 큰 차이가 없었으나 필러가 비교적 적은 조성인 B 조성의 경우 가장 큰 접합강도를 나타냈다. 3) NCP A, B, C 3종에 대한 접속저항 측정 결과 필러가 가장 많은 C의 경우가 가장 높은 저항 값을 보였으며 이는 가속 고온 고습 시험에 대한 결과에서도 급격한 접속률 감소를 통해 확인할 수 있다. 4) 시간에 따른 접속저항의 급격한 증가는 NCP 성분 중 친수성을 가진 물질이 있는 것이 원인이라 판단되며 이에 대한 개선을 통해 고습에 대한 신뢰성을 향상시킬 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

  • Preflex beam is a method of construction designed to hold the pre-compressive stresses over the concrete pier by the preflexion load. During the fabrication of the girder, welding causes residual stresses. The welding residual stresses must be relieved in order to generate the accurate compressive pre-stresses. In this study, to determine the thermal distribution characteristics on the girder by welding, both three-dimensional finite element analysis and two-dimensional finite element analysis, in a quasi-steady state, is carried out. After comparing each result between the three-dimensional analysis and the two-dimensional analysis, finite element analysis is carried out against the actual girder, and the welding thermal distribution characteristic over the preflex beam is analyzed. It is possible to provide the input data for the analysis of the welding residual stresses.

A Study on the Materials Characteristics of SM570TMC Plates (SM570TMC 강재의 재료특성에 관한 연구)

  • There is increasing need for high-strength steel especially for the high-rise steel building structure. High- strength steels, however, may have mechanical properties that are significantly different from those of the conventional steels.The application of high-strength steels to building structures should be reviewed as to whether inelastic behavior equivalent to that of conventional steels can be attained or not. In this study, SM570TMC steel, which was developed recently in Korea, was tested to evaluate mechanical properties and welding characteristics for use as a structural steel. Yield phenomenon of SM570TMC steel, which is continuous yielding, is quite different from that of conventional steel. The distributions of yield strength of SM570TMC steel were uniform regardless of thickness, while the minimum yield strength was 440MPa. Also, the flat distributions of hardness in z-direction were found to comprise one of the important properties. Results of the charpy impact tests at -5oC revealed toughness values of SM570TMC steel, which were higher than those of equivalent as rolled steel. Carbon equivalent(Ceq) values of SM570TMC steel, which were related to welding performance, were lower than those of equivalent as rolled steel.

Pull-out Behaviors of Headed Bars with Different Details of Head Plates (Head 플레이트 상세에 따른 Headed Bars의 인발거동에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents the pull-out failure mode on Headed Bars and prediction of tensile capacity, as governed by concrete cone failure. 17 different plate types, three different concrete strengths and three different welding types of specimens were simulated. Test variables are the reinforcing bar diameters connected to headed plate (e.g., 16mm, 19mm and 22mm), the head plate shapes (e.g., circular, square, rectangular), the dimensions of head plates (e.g., area and thickness), the types of welding scheme for connection of reinforcing bars and head plates (e.g., general welding and friction welding). Headed Bars were manufactured in different areas, which shape and thickness are based on ASTM 970-98. Calculation of Embedment length in concrete is based on CSA 23.3-94, and static tensile load was applied. Pullout capacities tested were compared to the values determined using current design methods such as ACI-349 and CCD method. If compare experiment results and existings, Headed bar expressed high strength and bigger breakdown radious than standard by wide plate area and anomaly reinforcing rod unlike anchor.
