It has been widely used ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) for the biomaterials due to its excellent mechanical properties and biocompatibility. In the case of blend of UHMPE with another polymeric biomaterials, however, UHMWPE might have low blend compatibility due to surface inertness. In this study, in order to improve the mechanical properties of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) bone cement by means of the impregnation of UHMWPE powder, we developed the novel surface modification method by the mixture of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and xylene. We investigated the variation of composition of MMA/xylene. It was confirmed by the analysis of Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflectance, scanning electron microscope, universal transverse mercator, and digital thermometer. The maximum mechanical strength of surface modified UHMWPE powder impregnated PMMA bone cement compound was observed the ratio of 1 : 1 (v/v%) MMA/xylene. Also its curing temperature decreased from 103 $^{\circ}C$ to 58 ∼ 73 $^{\circ}C$ The mechanism of surface modification of UHMWPE powder by the mixture of MMA/xylene has been proposed.
We observed the morphological characteristics and identified the species of gnathostome larvae obtained from the imported Chinese loaches. The early third-stage larvae ($EL_3$) were collected from viscera of the loaches and a part of them were infected to mice. The advanced third-stage larvae ($AdL_3$) were recovered from the mice at 4 weeks post-infection. both larval worms were fixed loth 10% formalin, cleared in alcohol-glycerin solution, mounted with glycerin-jelly, and observed. A total of 369 $EL_3$ were collected from viscera of 9,493 Chinese loaches. The whole body of $EL_3$ was covered with about 190 transverse rows of minute cuticular spines and $0.624{\;}{\times}{\;}0.101{\;}mm$ in average size. A pair of lips were protruded at the anterior end, and the muscular esophagus and brownish intestine were followed. The characteristic head bulb was provided with 4 rows of hooklets. The average number of hooklets in the respective row was 36.7, 39.5, 41.6 and 44.3 posteriorly $AdL_3$ was $2.660{\;}{\times}{\;}0.346{\;}mm$ in average size, and retained the esophagus (about 0.755 mm length) and cervical sac (about 0.355 mm length). The average number of hooklets in the respective row on the head bulb was 39.0, 41.9, 43.9 and 45.6, posteriorly. On the basis of the morphological characteristics, they were identified as the third-stage larvae of Gnathostomc hispinun.
VO(II), ZrO(II), Hf(IV), $UO_2$(II), Sn(II), V(V)$O_3$, Ru(III), Cd(II), Ho(III) and Yb(III) complexes of N'-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-2-(phenylamino)acetohydrazide ($H_2L^1$, 1) and N'-((3-hydroxy-naphthalen-2-yl)methylene)-2-(phenylamino)-acetohydrazide ($H_2L^2$, 13) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, $^1H$ NMR, IR, UV-Vis, conductance, thermal analyses (DTA and TG). The spectral data showed that the ligands behave as neutral bidentate, monobasic bidentate, monobasic tridentate or bibasic tridentate ligand bonded to the metal ions through the azomethine nitrogen atoms, phenolic hydroxyl group in protonated or deprotonated form and enolic or ketonic carbonyl group. The ligands and their metal complexes exhibit higher antifungal and antibacterial inhibitory effects than parent ligands and the solution of metal ions. Most of metal complexes exhibit higher antifungal activity than standard antifungal drug (amphotricene B). It is also clear that the ligands and their metal complexes have higher antifungal activity than antibacterial activity.
Ultraviolet spectrophotometric investigations were carried out on the systems of pyridine with iodine, iodine monobromide and iodine monochloride in carbon tetrachloride. The results reveal the formation of the one to one molecular complexes of the type, $C_5H_5N{\cdot}I_2$, $ C_5H_5$N{\cdot}IBr and $ C_5H_5N{\cdot}ICl$. Considering ${\lambda}_max$ according to the formation of charge transfer complexes has the blue shift with the increasing temperatures$25, 40, 60^{\circ}C$ the equilibrium constants K and molar absorptivities $\varepsilon$ of complexes were obtained. From these values, the thermodynamic parameters ${\Delta}H$, ${\Delta}G$ and ${\Delta}S$ for the formation of the above charge transfer complexes were obtained. These results indicate that the relative stabilities of iodine, iodine monobromide and iodine monochloride complexes with pyridine increase in the order, $ C_5H_5N{\cdot}I_2$ < $ C_5H_5N{\cdot}IBr$ <$ C_5H_5N{\cdot}ICl$. This may be a measure of relative acidity of halogen and interhalogen toward pyridine and can be explained by the polarizabilities of electron acceptors and the difference of electronegativities of halogen atoms.

Zinc oxide is, one of metal oxide semiconductor, harmless to human and environment-friendly. It has excellent chemical and thermal stability properties. Wurtzite-zinc oxide is a large band gap energy of 3.37 eV and high exciton binding energy of 60 meV. It can be applied to various fields, such as solar cells, degradation of the dye waste, the gas sensor. The photocatalytic activity of zinc oxide is varied according to the particle shape and change of crystallinity. Therefore, It is very important to specify the additives and the experimental variables. In this study, the zinc oxide were synthesized by using a microwave assisted hydrothermal synthesis. The precursor was used as the zinc nitrate, the pH value was controlled as 11 by NaOH. Surfactants are the ethanolamine, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, sodium dodecyl sulfate, sorbitan monooleate was added by changing the concentration. The composite particles had the shape of a star-like, curcular cone, seed shape, flake-sphere. Physical and chemical properties of the obtained zinc oxide was characterized using x-ray diffractometer, field emission scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and optical properties was characterized using UV-visible spectroscopy, photoluminescence and raman spectroscopy.
This study was carried out to identify the optimum condition for priming, as a series of experiments for the enhancement of germination percentage and germination synchronization in cool-season turfgrass seeds. The optimum priming conditions to maximize the germinability in both Kentucky bluegrass and Tall fescue was a 1 day treatment of 100 mM $K_3PO_4$ at $25^{\circ}C$. The seeds treated with the optimum priming condition enhanced the germinability compared to control, and shortened the time for germination with reduced $T_{50}$ and mean daily germination (MDG). However, as the concentration and treatment period of NaOH or KOH increased, significantly decrease in germination percentage was observed. Germination percentage in Creeping bentgrass and Bentgrass was below 10%, regardless of priming treatment. However, the priming treatment with 200 mM $KNO_3$ for three days improved the germination up to 6%, which was not a statistically significant level. The most effective priming period for Kentucky bluegrass and Tall fescue was one day treatment, but the germinability was suppressed as the treatment period was extended until six days. For priming chemical treatment, germinability was improved with the concentration of 100 mM, while it was reduced at higher concentrations of 200 mM and 300 mM.

We prepared γ-alumina beads using the amorphous alumina, obtained by fast calcination of gibbsite, and its were immersed in aqueous solution of the mixture of 21.87% nitric acid and 28.57% acetic acid. The beads thus were hydrothermaly treated at 200$^{\circ}$C for 3h, and were investigated changes of crystal, pore characteristics, $N_2$ adsorption and desorption isotherms, mechanical strengths and thermal resistance. Acicular platelet crystals of 0.1∼0.3${\mu}$m were transformed into acicular boehmite crystals of 1∼2${\mu}$m having the same crystal structure. Through this changes, we found that reversible phase transformation due to hydrothermal reaction took placed between boehmite and ${\gamma}$-alumina. In comparison to the ${\gamma}$-alumina bead before hydrothermal treatment, $N_2$ adsorption capacity was increased from 450㎖/g to 670㎖/g, and pore volume between 100${\AA}$ and 1000${\AA}$ was increased form 0.15㎖/g to 0.77㎖g, and mechanical strength was increased form 1.4MPa to 2.2MPa. Also, it showed the remarkable thermal resistance which sustained ${\theta}$-alumina crystal structure and pores between 100${\AA}$ and 1000${\AA}$ at 1000$^{\circ}$C in 40vol% steam.

An HPLC method for determination of naringin was developed to standardize it as a marker compound in Goheung yuzu extract as a functional health food. Optimum results were obtained by C-18 column chromatography using solvent mixtures (A: 0.5% acetic acid, B: acetonitrile) as the stationary phase and mobile phase. The method was fully validated and sensitive with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0218 mg/L and limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.0661 mg/L. The method showed high linearity (coefficient of correlation=0.9986) and high accuracy, as recovery rates of naringin at concentrations of 1, 0.5, 0.1, 0.05 mg/mL were in the ranges of 95.74~98.25%, 97.67~101.01%, 97.33~104.64%, and 95.53~106.82%, respectively. Intra-day and inter-day variation, which are measures of method precision, were 1.39~1.95% and 0.17~1.49%, respectively. Therefore, the method could be used without modification for determination of naringin as a marker compound in Goheung yuzu extracts.

Nano sized mixed metal hexagonal ferrite powders with improved magnetic properties have been prepared by sol-gel method using propylene oxide as a gelation agent. To obtain the desired ferrite, two different metal ions were used. One of the ions has only +2 formal charge. The key step in the processes is that hydrated $Ba^{2+}$ or $Sr^{2+}$ ions are hydrolyzed and condensed at the surface of the previously formed $Fe_{2}O_{3}$ gel. In this processes, all the reaction can be finished within a few minutes. The magnetic properties of the produced powder were improved by heat treatment. The highest values of the magnetic properties were achieved at temperature $150^{\circ}C$ lower than those of the previously published values. The highest observed values of coercivity and the saturation magnetization of Sr-ferrite and Ba-ferrite powder were 6198 Oe, 5155 Oe and 74.4 emu/g, 68.1 emu/g, respectively. The ferrite powder annealed at $700^{\circ}C$ showed spherical particle shapes. The resulting spheres which were formed by the aggregation of nanoparticles with size 3~5 nm have diameter around 50 nm. The powder treated at $800^{\circ}C$ showed hexagonal-shaped grains with crystallite size above 500 nm.
Optimization study was conducted for preparation of uncompressed soy protein isolate(SPI) tofu in the aspects of water addition ratio, second heating temperature and amounts of oil and dextrin added. The SPI tofu was prepared without compression step with SPI-oil-dextrin mixture and $CaSO_4-GDL$ mixed coagulants. The data were statistically analyzed by multiple regresstion and response surface methodology(RSM). Addition of dextrin increased the hardness of tofu, particularly for the second heating at $85^{\circ}C$ and 8 times of water to SPI. RSM figure showed that the effect of dextrin on hardness became to be less as the heating temperature increased. The hardness increase effect was no significant except addition of 25% oil and 8 times of water and second heating at $85^{\circ}C$. The addition of 25% oil and $10{\sim}15%$ dextrin and second heating at $90^{\circ}C$ for $45{\sim}60$ minutes resulted hardness and cohesive tofu. The optimal method proposed for uncompressed SPI tofu on the basis of textural and sensory properties was first heating of homogenized SPI-oil-dextrin(100:25:15) with addition of 8 times of water(on the basis of SPI) at $100^{\circ}C$ for 6 minutes, cooling to $40^{\circ}C$, additon of mixed coagulants of $CaSO_{4}-GDL$(0.07 g, 0.0075 g/SPI) and second heating at $90^{\circ}C$ for 45 minutes.
