A Study on Plasma Sprayed Porous Super Austenitic Stainless Steel Coating for Improvement of Bone Ingrowth (Bone ingrowth 향상을 위해 플라즈마 용사된 초내식성 오스테나이트 스테인리스강의 다공성 코팅층에 대한 연구)

  • The cementless fixation of bone ingrowth by porous coatings on artificial hip joint prostheses are replacing polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA) bone cement fixations. However, the major interests in the field of porous metal coating are environmental corrosivity accelerated by metal ion release, deterioration in the mechanical property of the coating, and the mechanical failure of the coatings as well as the substrate. Therefore, the selection of right materials for coatings and the development of porous coating techniques must be accomplished. Because of the existing problems in Ti and Ti alloys which are used extensively, this study is focused on the plasma spraying technique for coating on super stainless steel substrate. In order to determine the optimum conditions which satisfy the requirement for the porous coatings, under the plasma spraying, we selected the experimental parameters which extensively influenced on the characteristics of the coating through the pre-examination. Spray distance has been selected among 120, 160, and 200mm and primary gas flow rate among 70, 100, and 130 SCFH. Current and secondary gas($H_2$) flow rate was fixed at 400A, and 15 SCFH respectively. To understand the characteristics of the coatings, surface morphology, cross-sectional micro-structure, surface roughness, residual stress, and corrosion resistance were elucidated and the best conditions for the bone ingrowth improvement on artificial hip joint prostheses were found.

Effects of Counterpart Materials on Wear Behavior of Thermally Sprayed STS316 Coatings (STS316 용사코팅층의 마모거동에 미치는 상대마모재의 영향)

  • This paper deals with the effects of counterpart materials on the wear behavior of thermally sprayed STS316 coatings. STS316 powders were flame-sprayed onto a carbon steel substrate. Dry sliding wear tests were performed using the applied loads of 15 N. AISI52100, $Al_2O_3$, $ZrO_2$ and $Si_3N_4$ balls were used as counterpart materials. Wear behavior of STS316 coatings against different counterpart materials were studied using a scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The results show that the wear behavior of thermally sprayed STS316 coatings strongly depends on the type of counterpart material. Dominant wear mechanism was similar for all studied materials as failure of adhesion film except for Si3N4 used as counterpart material. In the case of Si3N4 used as counterpart material, dominant wear mechanism was abrasion.

Erosion properties of plasma sprayed zirconia Based coatings (지르코니아계 용사 코팅층의 Erosion 특성)

  • Zirconia powder containing 3 mol% yttria(3Y-PSZ) with and with out Fe$_2$O$_3$ addition was coated on tile cast iron substrate by plasma spraying method. The erosion experiments were performed at temperatures from $25^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$. A gas blast type erosion tester was used to examine erosion behavior of the specimens. The results of 3Y-PSZ coatings showed that tile erosion rate had maximum value at 40$0^{\circ}C$. It coincided with tile results of phase transformation tetragonal phase to monoclinic phase caused by low temperature thermal degradation. The tensile stress relaxation and the micro-hardness improvement significantly influenced on the erosion rate at $600^{\circ}C$. In the case of Fe$_2$O$_3$ added 3Y-PSZ coatings, the erosion rate of tested at $25^{\circ}C$ showed maximum value at 5.0 mol% Fe$_2$O$_3$ added coating. This tendency is caused by the improvement of mechanical properties and the tensile residual stress. The erosion rate at 200'c and 400'L showed significantly decrease by Fe203 addition. This decrease is believed to be the stabilization of the tetragonal phase and the increase of micro-hardness.

Effect of Laser Heat-treatment on WC-CoFe Coated Surface by HVOF (초고속화염용사 WC-CoFe 코팅층의 레이저 표면 열처리 효과)

  • The microstructure, hardness, and wear behaviors of a High Velocity Oxygen Fuel(HVOF) sprayed WC-CoFe coating are comparatively investigated before and after laser heat treatments of the coating surface. During the spraying, the binder metal is melted and a small portion of WC is decomposed to $W_2C$. A porous coating is formed by evolution of carbon oxide gases formed by the reaction of the free carbon and the sprayed oxygen gas. The laser heat treatment eliminates the porosity and provides a more densified microstructure. After laser heat treatment, the porosity in the coating layer decreases from 1.7 % to 1.2 and the coating thickness decreases from $150{\mu}m$ to $100{\mu}m$. The surface hardness increases from 1440 Hv to 1117 Hv. In the wear test, the friction coefficient of coating decreases from 0.45 to 0.32 and the wear resistance is improved by the laser heat treatment. The improvement is likely due to the formation of oxide tribofilms.

Porosity Prediction of the Coating Layer Based on Process Conditions of HVOF Thermal Spray Coating (HVOF 용사 코팅 공정 조건에 따른 코팅층의 기공도 예측)

  • The effect of the process conditions of high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) thermal spray coating on the porosity of the coating layer is investigated. HVOF coating layers are formed by depositing amorphous FeMoCrBC powder. Oxygen pressure varies from 126 to 146 psi and kerosene pressure from 110 to 130 psi. The Microstructural analysis confirms its porosity. Data analysis is performed using experimental data. The oxygen pressure-kerosene pressure ratio is found to be a key contributor to the porosity. An empirical model is proposed using linear regression analysis. The proposed model is then validated using additional test data. We confirm that the oxygen pressure-kerosene pressure ratio exponentially increases porosity. We present a porosity prediction model relationship for the oxygen pressure-kerosene pressure ratio.

  • Several technologies are employed to protect substrates from corrosion and erosion damage. In particular, arc thermal spray coating technology is widely used as anti-corrosive technology for steel and concrete structures and is applied to offshore plants and petrochemical and drilling facilities. In this investigation, solid particle impingement erosion experiments were performed on an arc thermal spraying-coated specimen using 85% Al-14% Zn-1% Zr wire rod in KR-RA steel. This study investigated the effect of fluorosilicone sealing on the erosion resistance characteristics of the thermal spray coating layer. The erosion rates of the thermal spray-coated and sealed specimens were 4.1×10-4 and 8.5×10-4, respectively. At the beginning of the experiment, the fluorosilicone sealant was almost destroyed by the impact of the solid particles. The destruction time for the coating layer was 10 minutes for the thermal spray-coated specimen and 13 minutes for the sealed specimens, indicating that the sealed specimens had better erosion resistance characteristics to solid particle impingement.

Effect of Gun Nozzle Movement Speed in HVOF Process on the properties of Coating Thickness and Surface (HVOF 용사 건의 이동속도가 WC-Co 코팅층의 두께 형성 및 표면 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to process materials such as engineering plastics, which are difficult to mold due to their high strength compared to conventional polymer materials, it is necessary to improve the hardness and strength of parts such as screws and barrels of injection equipment in extrusion system. High-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) process is well known for its contribution on enhancement of surface properties. Thus in this study, using the HVOF process, WC coating layers of different thicknesses were bonded to the surface of S30C substrate by controlling the movement speed of the spray nozzle and each property was evaluated to decide the optimization condition. Through the results, the thickness of WC coating layer increased from 0 to 200 ㎛ maximum, along with the decrement of nozzle movement speed and the surface hardness get increased. Especially, the coated layer with the thickness over 180 ㎛ under the nozzle speed 500 mm/s had high hardness than thinner layer. In addition, the amount of wear consumed per unit time was also significantly reduced due to the formation of the coating layer.

Growth of Carbon Nanotube by Chemical Vapor Deposition (화학기상증착법에 의한 탄소 나노튜브의 성장)

  • 열CVD법에 의하여 아세틸렌 가스를 탄소 원으로 사용한 탄소 나노튜브의 성장거동을 조사하였다. 닉켈 분말의 직경을 15nm 내지 90nm 범위로 조정하여 기판 에 촉매로 배열하였다. 탄소 나노튜브는 질소, 수소, 알곤, 암모니아 등 여러가지의 가스 분위기에서 증착되었으며 이들 가스의 혼합 분위기가 탄소나 노튜브의 성장에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 증착은 대기압 압력하에서 85$0^{\circ}C$ 의 온도에서 이루어졌다. 순수한 질소 분위기에서는 탄소 나노튜브의 성장이 이루어지지 않고 두꺼운 탄소 층이 기판 위에 중착되었다. 이 조건에서는 탄소로 뒤덮혀진 닉켈 입자가 탄소 나노튜브 형성의 촉매 역할을 담당하지 못했다. 그러나 질소와 수소의 혼합분위기에서는 수소의 농도가 증가함에 따라 탄소 나노튜브의 성장이 증진되었다. 순수한 수소 분위기에서는 일정한 방향이 없이 꼬여진 탄소 나노튜브가 성장되었다. 탄소 나노튜브의 성장은 분위기 가스로 암모니아를 사용하였을 때 훨씬 더 증진되었다. 수직으로 배열된 탄소 나노튜료를 암모니아 분위기에서는 성장시킬 수 있었으나 암모니아와 같은 비율의 수소와 질소 가스의 혼합 분위기 하에서 는 탄소 나노튜브의 성장을 얻을 수 없었다. 이러한 결과를 여기에서는 닉켈 촉매의 표면에 과도하게 석출된 탄소의 촉매 passivation으로 설명하였다. 탄소 나노튜브의 증착을 위해서는 아세틸렌 가스의 분해율이 너무 과도하지 않게 즉 촉매의 표면이 과도한 탄소의 증착으로 수동태화 되지않도록 조절되어야 한다는 것이다. 이 연구결과는 분위기 가스의 조성이 탄소 나노튜브의 성장에 있어서 그 반웅 kinetics에 큰 영향을 미친다는 것을 잘 보여주고 있다. 또한 암모니아 분위기에서는 촉매 닉켈입자 표면에 질화물층이 형성되어 탄소 나노튜브의 성장에 영향을 미쳤다는 것도 알 수 있었다.며 실제 가공업체에서도 터짐 문제가 발견되지 않았다. 결론적으로 표면층의 인장강도가 패션/구부림에 가장 중요한 변수로 작용하며 어떠 한 형태로 표면층의 인장강도를 향상시킬 경우 침엽수 펄프는 재생펄프로 대체가 가능 할 것으로 판단된다.하는 통계기법 중의 하나인 주성분회귀분석을 실시하였다. 주성분 분석은 여러 개의 반응변수에 대하여 얻어진 다변량 자료의 다차원적인 변 수들을 축소, 요약하는 차원의 단순화와 더불어 서로 상관되어있는 반응변수들 상호간 의 복잡한 구조를 분석하는 기법이다. 본 발표에서는 공정 자료를 활용하여 인공신경망 과 주성분분석을 통해 공정 트러블의 발생에 영향 하는 인자들을 보다 현실적으로 추 정하고, 그 대책을 모색함으로써 이를 최소화할 수 있는 방안을 소개하고자 한다.금 빛 용사 둥과 같은 표면처리를 할 경우임의 소재 표면에 도금 및 용 사에 용이한 재료를 오버레이용접시킨 후 표면처리를 함으로써 보다 고품질의 표면층을 얻기위한 시도가 이루어지고 있다. 따라서 국내, 외의 오버레이 용접기술의 적용현황 및 대표적인 적용사례, 오버레이 용접기술 및 용접재료의 개발현황 둥을 중심으로 살펴봄으로서 아직 국내에서는 널리 알려지지 않은 본 기 술의 활용을 넓이고자 한다. within minimum time from beginning of the shutdown.및 12.36%, $101{\sim}200$일의 경우 12.78% 및 12.44%, 201일 이상의 경우 13.17% 및 11.30%로 201일 이상의 유기의 경우에만 대조구와 삭제 구간에 유의적인(p<0.05) 차이를 나타내었다.는 담수(淡水)에서 10%o의 해수(海水)로 이주된지 14일(日) 이후에 신장(腎臟)에서 수축된 것으로 나타났다. 30%o의 해수(海水)에 적응(適應)된 틸라피아의 평균 신사구체(腎絲球體)의 면적은 담수(淡水)에

  • As applications in extreme environments such as aerospace, high-energy plasma and radio-active circumstances increases, the demand for materials that require higher melting points, higher mechanical strength and improved thermal conductivity continues to increase. Accordingly, in order to improve the oxidation/abrasion resistance of the carbon-carbon composite, which is a typical heat-resistant material, a method of using ultra high temperature ceramics was reviewed. The advantages and disadvantages of CVD coating, pack cementation and thermal plasma spraying, the simplest methods for synthesizing ultra-high temperature ceramics, were compared. As a method for applying the CVD coating method to C/C composites with complex shapes, the possibility of using thermodynamic calculation and CFD simulation was proposed. In addition, as a result of comparing the oxidation resistance of the TaC/SiC bi-layer coating and TaC/SiC multilayer coating produced by this method, the more excellent oxidation resistance of the multilayer coating on C/C was confirmed.

Evaluation of Cavitation Characteristics in Seawater on HVOF Spray Coated Layer with WC-27NiCr Material for Cu Alloy (구리합금에 대한 WC-27NiCr 초고속화염용사 코팅층의 해수내 캐비테이션 특성 평가)

  • Copper alloys are commonly applied to ship's propellers, pumps and valves which are serviced in seawater due to their good castability and corrosion resistance. In the environment of high flow velocity, however, erosion damage predominates over corrosion damage. In particular, the cavitation in seawater environment accelerates surface damage to copper alloys, resulting in degradation of products and economic losses and also threatening safety. The surface was coated with WC-27NiCr by high velocity oxygen fuel(HVOF) spraying technique to attain durability and cavitation resistance of copper alloys under high velocity/pressure flow. The cavitation test was performed for the WC-27NiCr coating deposited by HVOF in seawater at the amplitude of $30{\mu}m$ with seawater temperature. The cavitation at $15^{\circ}C$ caused exfoliation of the coating layer in 17.5 hours while that of $25^{\circ}C$ caused the exfoliation in 12.5 hours. When the temperature of seawater was elevated to $25^{\circ}C$ from $15^{\circ}C$, more damage was induced by over 160%. Although WC-27NiCr has good durability, corrosion resistance and eletrochemical stability, the cavitation damage rate of the coating layer could remarkably increase at the elevated temperatures under cavitation environments.
