Growth and Development of Pot Chrysanthemum 'Pink Pixie Time' in Various Mixtures of Shattered PUR and CGF (PUR과 CGF를 재활용한 혼합배지에서 분국화 'Pink Pixie Time'의 생육)

  • An experiment was conducted to evaluate shattered industrial polyurethane (PUR) and cellular glass foam (CGF) as growth medium components. Pot chrysanthemum 'Pink Pixie Time 'was cuttured in media containing various volume ratios of PUR, CGF, peatmoss, coir, and perlite. Before plant culture, pH and EC of media were determined. Container capacity (%) was low in perlite and CGF-containing media, but it increased when incorporation ratio of peatmoss or coir was increased. pH was stable between 5.0 and 6.3, but was high in coir-contaning media as compared to other media tested. EC was very high in coir-containing media. Hight at 34 days after planting was the greatest in media containing CGF, and number. of leaves was similar among treatments. Growth in PUR-containinly media was poorer than that in the other media, with some leaf edge burning. Trends in growth measured at 97 days after planting was similar to that measured at 34 days after planting.

  • 최근 생태 조경용 관상식물의 수요가 증가함에 따라, 환경적응성이 강하며 관상용으로 가치가 있는 자생식물들을 개발하기 위한 노력이 증가하고 있다. 둥근산꼬리풀(Veronica rotunda Nakai)은 화기가 길며, 꽃이 만개하였을 때 관상가치가 높아 정원의 지피식물 및 실내 분화식물로 이용 가치가 높다. 본 연구는 둥근산꼬리풀의 육묘기술을 개발하기 위하여 2018년 5월 8일에서 6월 30일까지 약 8주간 시행되었다. 본 연구의 공통사항은 200구 트레이에 원예상토를 충진한 후 셀당 4립씩 종자를 파종하였다. 이후 무차광 조건에서 육묘하였으며, 추비는 hyponex $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$를 잎이 충분히 젖도록 2, 4주차에 엽면시비 하였다. 파종 용기별 실험은 162, 200, 288구 트레이를 사용하였고, 파종립수별 생육을 알아보기 위하여 200구 트레이에 셀 당 1, 2, 4 및 6립을 파종하였다. 토양종류는 원예상토, 피트모스:펄라이트(3:1, 4:1)의 혼용토를 육묘에 이용하였다. 각 혼용토의 비료 농도는 한아름상토(N:P:K, $300-200-200mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$)를 기준으로 0, 100 및 200%로 조성하였다. 추비는 hyponex (6.5-6-19)를 물에 희석하여 0, 500, 및 $1000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$로 파종 후 2, 4주차 총 2회 잎이 충분히 젖을 정도로 엽면시비 하였으며, 차광실험은 0, 55 및 75% 차광막이 설치된 곳에 재배하였다. 8주간 육묘 실험을 수행한 결과, 파종 용기별로는 162구 트레이에서 생육한 유묘에서 각 측정 항목별로 유의적으로 양호한 결과가 나타났다. 셀 당 파종립수 별로는 1립 파종구에서 가장 우수한 유묘의 생장을 보였으며, 파종립수가 증가할수록 생육이 감소하는 경향이 나타났다. 토양조성을 달리하였을 때 원예상토 단용 처리에서 가장 생육이 우수하였고, 피트모스가 혼합된 토양에서는 생육이 저조한 경향을 보였다. Hyponex의 농도를 달리하여 추비하였을 때 $1000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$에서 유묘의 생육이 가장 양호하였으며, 추비농도가 감소할수록 생육이 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 차광정도에 따른 생육을 관찰한 결과 55% 차광에서 생육이 가장 우수하였고, 75% 차광의 경우에는 무차광 처리구에 비해 생육이 감소하는 경향이었다. 따라서 각 처리별 결과를 토대로 둥근산꼬리풀을 육묘시 162구 트레이에 원예상토를 충진한 후 셀 당 1립 파종하여, 55% 차광에서 재배하며, 추비는 Hyponex $1000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$를 잎이 충분히 젖을 정도로 엽면시비하는 것이 가장 효과적일 것으로 생각된다.

Several Cultivation Conditions for Effective Seedlings of Amsonia ellipotica (Thumb.) Roem. & Schult. (정향풀의 효과적인 육묘를 위한 몇 가지 재배조건)

  • 정향풀[Amsonia ellipotica (Thumb.) Roem. & Schult.]은 5월에 백색의 취산꽃차례로 개화하여 관상가치가 높다고 판단되나, 전국에 자생지가 10곳 미만이며 한국적색목록에 위기종(EN)으로 평가되어 체계적인 번식 및 재배법 개발이 요구된다. 본 연구는 유전자원보전 및 신 관상소재로 개발 가능한 정향풀의 효과적인 육묘법을 확립하고자 수행되었다. 실험재료는 유용식물증식센터에서 분양받은 종자를 사용하였으며, 파종용기(72, 105 및 128구 트레이), 파종립수(셀 당 1, 2 및 4립), 토양종류(원예상토 단용 및 중화 피트모스와 펄라이트를 3:1 또는 4:1로 혼용), Hyponex[미분(6.5-6-19)] 추비농도(0, 250, 500 및 $1000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$) 및 차광정도(0, 55 및 75%)를 달리하여 2019년 4월 20일부터 8주 동안 육묘하였다. 연구의 공통사항으로 종자를 $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ $GA_3$에24시간 침지한 다음 원예상토를 충진한 105구 트레이에 셀 당 1립씩 파종하였으며, 이후 2, 4주차에 $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ Hyponex를 엽면시비하였다. 연구의 결과, 파종용기는 셀 당 용적량이 많을수록 초장, 경직경, 엽수, 지상부 및 지하부 생체중이 증가하는 경향이었다. 파종립수에 따른 생육은 1립 파종 시 가장 우수하였으나, 2립 파종한 묘의 개체 당 생체중이 비교적 양호함에 따라 트레이 상 풍성한 볼륨감을 나타내었다. 추비처리의 농도가 증가할수록 유묘의 생육이 증가하는 경향이었으며, $1000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 처리구에서 초장, 경직경, 엽수 및 생체중이 유의적으로 높았다. 한편 차광처리 시 차광정도에 관계없이 경직경, 엽수, 마디수 및 지상부 생체중이 유의적으로 감소하였다. 따라서 정향풀은 용적량이 큰 72구 트레이에 원예상토를 충진한 다음 셀 당 2립씩 파종하여 차광하지 않은 양지에서 Hyponex $1000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$로 추비하는 것이 관상목적으로 육묘하기 위한 효과적인 재배법으로 판단된다.

Characteristics of Seed Germination and Potted Seedlings Growth of Endemic Species, Sambucus sieboldiana var. pendula and Sambucus sieboldiana for. xanthocarpa (특산식물 말오줌나무와 노랑말오줌나무의 종자발아 및 분화묘 재배특성)

  • This study was carried out to determine the effects of seed storage methods and pre-treatments on seed germination, soil types and shading conditions on potted seedlings growth of S. sieboldiana var. pendula and S. sieboldiana for. xanthocarpa, endemic species in Korea. The seed germination rate of S. sieboldiana var. pendula was the highest at 48.6% when seeds were treated with stratification for 60 days and then soaked in 100 ppm $GA_3$. And seed germination rate of S. sieboldiana for. xanthocarpa was the highest at 51.4% when seeds were pre-chilled for 30 days and then soaked in 100 ppm $GA_3$. And potted seedlings of S. sieboldiana var. pendula showed the best quality under 50% shading in bedsoil with the growth characteristics of plant height (41 cm), number of leaves(8), leaf width (16 cm), leaf length (18 cm), root length (22 cm), fresh weight(aerial part/root part; 20/6.9 g) and dry weight(aerial part/root part; 4.5/2.0 g). And potted seedlings of S. sieboldiana for. xanthocarpa showed the best quality under non-shading in bedsoil with the growth characteristics of plant height (39 cm), number of leaves(10), leaf width (12 cm), leaf length (15 cm), root length (22 cm), fresh weight (aerial part/root part; 21/13 g) and dry weight (aerial part/root part; 4.2/2.2 g). Therefore, seeds treated with stratification or prechilling and then soaked in $GA_3$ were effective in germination of S. sieboldiana var. pendula and S. sieboldiana for. xanthocarpa, and potted seedlings should be cultivated in bedsoil under non or 50% shading condition.

Growth of Mungbean Sprouts and Commodity Temperature as Affected by Water Supplying Methods (관수방식에 따른 숙주나물의 생장과 품온 변화)

  • Methods for culturing bean sprouts could be divided into two main groups of overspraying and underwatering according to water supplying. The study was done to measure the effect of water supplying method on growth of mungbean sprouts and temperatures inside their culture boxes. The morphological characters, fresh and dry weights were measured on the 6th day after culturing, but temperatures of the boxes were recorded daily by dataloggers. Lateral roots was not formed in the under-watering method (UM) while partially done in the over-spraying method (OM). OM had longer hypocotyl but UM had longer root compared to the other. Two water supplying methods, however, had nearly similar total length adding hypocotyl and root lengths, diameters of middle and upper parts of hypocotyl. OM showed more total fresh weight than UM mainly resulting from increment of hypocotyl fresh weight. The fresh weight increment in OM was caused by relatively higher temperature of culture box compared to UM.

Effect of Crop Rotation Cultivation on the Suppression of Garlic White Rot Caused by Sclerotium cepivorum (전작물 재배에 의한 마늘 흑색썩음균핵병 억제효과)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of crop rotation cultivation on the suppression of garlic white rot caused by Sclerotium cepivorum in the mini plot ($2^*1^*$ 0.5 m). Six crops, soybean, sesame, mung bean, squash, crotalaria and spring onion, were previously transplanted in the mini-plots infested with S. cepivorum before garlics were planted. After cultivation of the previous crops, garlic was sown in the mini-plot. Non-cultivation plots and non-infested plots with white rot pathogen were used as control. The effect of crop rotation cultivation on the suppression of garlic white rot was evaluated by investigating comparatively the disease incidence (the percentage of infected plants) and yields. As a results, infection rate of garlic white rot was recorded lower in the non-infested plot, crotalaria and soybean cultivation than in the plot of the other crop cultivation. Especially when squash was previously cultivated and garlics were planted in 2013, infection rate of garlic white was recorded the highest score. In 2014, the infection rate of garlic white were low in the garlic on soybean, crotalaria and spring onion treatment whereas it was high in squash treatment, as well. In 2013, garlic yield was the highest in no inoculation plot, followed by crotalaria, soybean, no crop cultivation, sesami, mungbean, squash cultivation plot. In 2014, the yield in the plot of crotalaria and soybean was much higher than that in no inoculation plot. Based on above-described results, it is considered that soybean-garlic and crotalaria-garlic cultivation system can be good crop rotation systems to control garlic white rot.

Growth and Yield Response of Perilla Plants Grown under Different Substrates in Hydroponic System (잎들깨 수경재배에서 배지 종류에 따른 식물 생육 및 수량의 반응)

  • This study was conducted to analyze physical and chemical properties of horticultural substrates and response of hydroponically grown two cultivars of 'Namcheon' and 'Somirang' perilla by four different substrates: coir (chip:dust = 5:5), perlite, granular rockwool, and commercial mixed substrate (cocopeat:peatmoss:vermiculite:perlite: zeolite = 50:25:10:10:5). There were no significant differences in EC and pH according to substrates. Container capacity was the greatest in granular rockwool, and it showed appropriate levels in mixed substrate and coir. Air space was higher in coir and perlite than the other treatments. Bulky density reached a proper standard in all substrates excepting coir. The leaf length and width of 'Namcheon' indicated the most in mixed substrate, though the value of 'Somirang'was greatest in coir substrate. The leaf weight of both cultivars was highest in mixed substrate, and relatively low in coir and perlite. The total yield of leaves was separated by two groups: higher group, which are mixed substrate and granular rockwool, and lower group, which are coir and perlite. There was a large gap by 28% between these two groups. Therefore, this study suggests that substrates with high water holding capacity such as mixed substrate or granular rockwool are most suitable for the hydroponic cultivation of perilla, which require sufficient moisture supply to the root zone.

Effect of Substrate Amount of Perlite on the Growth and Fruit Yield of Hydroponically Grown Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) Plants (펄라이트 배지량이 양액재배 오이의 생장과 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of container size and substrate volume on the growth and fruit yield of hydroponically grown cucumber(Cucumis sativus L.) plants. Seeds were sown in plug tray filled with coir dust on Feb. 13, 1998. Seedlings with 5 to 6 true leaves were transplanted in $2{\ell},\;4{\ell},\;6{\ell},\;8{\ell}\;and\;10{\ell}$ plastic pots filled with perlite. Cucumber fruits were harvested with 1 to 2 days interval, and fresh weight, number of normal and malformed fruit were recorded. Plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves and leaf area were highly depended on the container size. Total fresh weight and the number of fruit were increased with increasing container size. NAR(net assimilation rate) and CGR(crop growth rate) increased also with increasing the container size. Optimum container size for hydroponically grown cucumber plant using perlite was recommended as $8{\ell}$ per plant.

Changes in Soil Physical Properties in Various Sizes of Container as Influenced by Packing Amount of Coir Dust Containing Root Media (다양한 규격의 포트에서 코이어더스트를 포함한 혼합상토의 충전밀도 차이에 의해 유발된 물리성 변화)

  • When highly shrinkable materials such as coir dust are major component of root media, the degrees of compaction during container filling of root media severely influences the physical properties of root media. It results in the changes in total porosity (TP), container capacity (CC) and air-filled porosity (AFP). This research was conducted to secure the fundamental information in changes of soil physical properties as influenced by the compaction of root media during container filling. To achieve this, three root media were formulated by blending coir dust (CD) with expanded rice hull (CD + ERH, 8:2, v/v), carbonized rice hull (CD + CRH, 6:4) and ground and raw pine bark (CD + GRPB, 8:2). Based on the optimum bulk density, the amount of root media filled into 6.0, 7.5, 8.5, 10.5 and 12.5 cm were adjusted to 90, 100, 110, 120 and 130% based on the weight of root media. Then the changes in TP, CC, and AFP were measured. Elevation of the packing amount of root media in all sizes of pot resulted in the decrease of TP. But the decrease was more severe in CD + ERH and CD + CRH than those in CD + GRPB. The CC also decreased gradually as the packing amounts were elevated in three root media, but the decreases were severe as the container sizes became larger. The AFP decreased drastically by the elevation of the packing amount of root media in all sizes of pot. The AFP was the highest in CD + CRH medium when pot sizes were smaller than 7 cm, but that was the highest in CD + ERH when the pot sizes were larger than 8.5 cm among the 3 root media tested. In this research, the elevation of packing amount of three root media influenced more severely the AFP rather than CC. This result indicates that the packing amount should be controlled to maintain appropriate level of AFP because AFP rather than CC influence severely crop growth. The results obtained through this study can be used to predict the changes in physical properties of root media as influenced by packing amount in various sizes of pots.

Optimal culture methods for plant regeneration via shoot organogenesis in the 'Fuji' apple (사과 '후지'의 기관형성을 통한 식물체 재생에 효율적인 배양방법)

  • Plant regeneration protocols for adventitious shoot organogenesis from apple (Malus domestica 'Fuji') leaf explants were developed in the present study. The effects of dark incubation periods in the early stages of culture, pre-treatment methods, the number of explants per culture container, the type of culture containers, and the orientation of the explants on culture media were evaluated to determine the optimal shoot regeneration conditions for 'Fuji' apple leaf explants. Light incubation of explants produced minimal response. However, dark incubation of explants for 4 weeks during the initial culture period enhanced shoot regeneration frequency. Comparing the number of explants per container, a higher percentage of shoot regeneration was obtained with nine explants per container compared with four explants per container. Pre-treatment, before culture, by dipping explants in a liquid regeneration medium containing 40 g/L of sorbitol for 2 hours produced the highest shoot formation rate, and the time of shoot formation was accelerated. The percentage of shoot regeneration and number of shoots per regenerating explant reached a maximum of 87.5% and 4.7, respectively. The regenerated shoots were elongated and rooted on a rooting medium of 1/4 MS with 0.2 mg/L IBA. The plantlets were successfully acclimatized, and the regenerated plants produced normal phenotypes.
