  • In the present study, a numerical analysis of an injection molding process was conducted for predicting the mold deformation considering non-Newtonian flow, heat transfer, and structural behavior. The accurate prediction of mold deformation during the filling stage is important to successfully design and manufacture a precision injection mold. While the local mold deformation can be caused by various factors, a pressure induced by the polymer melt is considered to be one of the most significant ones. In this regard, the numerical simulation considering both the melt filling and the mold deformation was carried out. A mold core for a 2D axisymmetric center-gated disk was used for the demonstration of the present study. The flow behavior inside the mold cavity and temperature distribution were analyzed along with the core displacement. Also, a Taguchi method was employed to investigate the influence of the relevant parameters including flow velocity, mold core temperature, and melt temperature.

  • Response surface methodology was employed to investigate the conditions for separating water-soluble proteins from egg yolk using sodium alginate, propylene glycol alginate (PGA), sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and pectin which are approved as food additives. Effects of plysaccharide concentration and pH of the reaction system on protein and lipid contents in the supernatant were evaluated at respectively five and three levels of concentration and pH using rotatable hexagon design. Statistical analysis showed that pH of the system was a more important factor than polysaccharide concentration as it significantly affected all two responses. Separating conditions established by a graphical optimization technique were $0.23{\sim}0.25%$ of sodium alginate at $pH\;5.9{\sim}6.0$, $0.15{\sim}0.17%$ of PGA at $pH\;4.3{\sim}4.5$, $0.30{\sim}0.25%$ of CMC at pH 3.0, and $0.09{\sim}0.10%$ of pectin at $pH\;5.6{\sim}5.8%$.

  • The motion effect of animation can be maximized by using the intended number of frame(flickering phenomena) responding to the viewer's perception in the production processes. But, the high contrast of chroma in a color arrangement can cause very dangerous situation if a particular effect(scheduled number of frame for the intended rapid flickering in a zoom-in scene of the warning light of police car and the traffic light) or a excessive visual stimulus is tried. The danger of flickering phenomena is defined as 'Flash Nervousness Attack Symptom' in medical terminology, which has received wide attention because the damage to the viewers of Pocket Monster was very serious in Japan. Producing a piece of animation work, the quality control of colors is important but the color setting considering the psychological aspects, the danger of repetitive flickering of flashes and patterns in image effect are more serious, so these factors should be checked in the production stages. After investigating the domestic and foreign prescriptions including the guidelines for animation production technique in Japan, a solution to reduce the danger of flickering phenomena of color and light was suggested through statistical comparative analysis with the test results.

  • This paper presents the appropriateness for using high strength reinforcement according to the use of high strength concrete. Nine flexural tests were conducted on full-scale beam specimens according to the concrete strength, reinforcement strength and reinforcement ratio as main variable. The structural behavior was analyzed due to the flexural strength, stress-strain curve, deflections at yielding and fracture point, crack appearance and ductility factor. The member with high-strength reinforcements showed large deflection at yielding point and this was analyzed as a main cause to decrease the ductility factor. Structural behavior after yielding point, however, showed similarity to behavior of members with normal strength reinforcements of same stiffness. It was found that in the case of using reinforcements of $5500kgf/cm^2$ strength, the combination with concrete of $800kgf/cm^2$ strength demonstrated the great appropriateness which can increase the flexural capacity without any reduction of maximum reinforcement ratio.

  • Laminate structures are used in the automobile, aerospace, and display industries. The advantages of fiber metal laminates are well known. Fiber metal laminates are useful for reducing the weight and improving impact resistance . However, currently, the mechanical properties of fiber metal laminates are not derived. In this paper, we use thickness as a factor for comparing the properties of laminates of various thickness combinations. The properties fiber metal laminates are analyzed using design of experiments. In addition, the finite element method is used to analyze elastic and plastic strains of fiber metal laminates and aluminum plates. The final goal of this paper is to find a suitable finite element model of fiber metal laminates under bending.

  • In this paper, parametric studies are conducted to evaluate the contribute effect of multi layered room and pillar mine structures by underground accidental explosions. Influence of PPV(Peak Particle Velocity) obtained from large explosion at a multi layered room and pillar mine was numerically simulated by using AUTODYN. Parameters for contribution rate Analysis was analyzed by the robust design method. Orthogonal array is $L_9(3^4)$, which was adopted in this study, the parameters were pillar height, pillar width, mine span and sill pillar of 3 levels. Results of analysis showed that bottom mine of vertical direction from explosion point are most affected by pillar height, followed by sill pillar thickness, mine span and pillar width. Parameters affecting adjacent mine of horizontal direction from explosion are in the order of pillar width, mine span, pillar height and sill pillar thickness.

  • Sensory quality of pine nut gruel was investigated to determine the effects of processing conditions on its quality. Response surface methodology was applied to investigate effects of water volume and pine nut weight ratios to rice weight and heating time on the preference of pine nut gruel in terms of color, flavor, viscosity, taste, and overall acceptance. Results showed that processing conditions did not affect the color of pine nut gruel. Viscosity and overall acceptance were affected by the ratio of water volume to rice weight and heating time. $R^2$ of response surface regression equations were 0.6954, 0.8333 (p<0.05), 0.9668 (p<0.01), 0.8664 (p<0.05), and 0.8159 (p<0.10) for color, flavor, viscosity, taste, and overall acceptance respectively. No relationship was observed between color and overall acceptance. The relationship between viscosity and overall acceptance was the highest.

  • Second year results are presented from a trial designed to quantify the reduction in radiata pine(Pinus radiata D. Don) seedling growth caused by competition from a range of important weed species on a moist North Island site in New Zealand. Radiates pine seedlings(1/0) were grown on the weed free control and with either herbaceous broadleaves, grass, broom, pampas, buddleia, or gorse. Resource(nutrient and water) levels were varied by factorial +/- irrigation and fertilizer treatments. Radiata pine seedling volume growth 21 months after planting was greatest when it was grown on the weed free control or in association with gorse, and was least when grown with either buddleia or pampas. There was no evidence that the effects of the weeds on seedling growth were mediated by either competition for water or nutrients. Tall, fast-growing species that overtopped the seedlings(broom, buddleia, pampas) had the greatest effect on seedling growth and the magnitude of the effect was correlated with degree of overtopping. This implies that shading or competition for light is probably an important factor.

  • In $4{\times}4$ graeco-latin square design, powers of rank transformed statistic for testing the main effect are superior to powers of parametric statistic without regard to the effect structure with equally or unequally spaced effect levels as well as the type of population distributions such as exponential, double exponential, normal and uniform distribution. As numbers of block effect or effect sizes are decreased, powers of rank transformed statistic are much higher than powers of parametric statistic. In case that block effects are smaller than a main effect or one block effect is higher than other block effects, powers of rank transformed statistic are much higher than powers of parametric statistic in $4{\times}4$ graeco-latin square design with three block effects and one main effect.

  • Nano flexible vesicles encapsulating an adenosine, an active ingredient for anti-wrinkle, were prepared for the transdermal delivery. The nano flexible vesicle is usually composed of phospholipid, ethanol, and lysolecithin, which is a type of liquid crystalline one made by dispersing the liquid crystalline phase formed through a hydration process into a water phase. In this study, the Taguchi method, one of the experimental design methods, was applied to investigate the factors affecting the vesicle droplet size. Signal to noise (S/N) ratios for the smaller the better characteristics of vesicle droplet size were calculated using the Taguchi orthogonal array. The composition of ethanol and lysolecithin in the vesicle constituents and the amount of aqueous solution added in the hydration process were main factors that had a great effect on the vesicle droplet size and ANOVA test showed that these factors were significant at 95% confidence level.
