  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the possibility of job-related risk, emotional labor, and emotional leadership on the job turnover intention of caregivers working at the long-term care facilities in Korea. For the study, survey data of 434 caregivers at senior nursing homes were collected and analyzed using hierarchical multiple regression method. The results showed that high level of caregivers'perception of both the possibility of management risk and employee risk led to increased turnover intention. On the other hand, perception of the possibility of social-disaster risk did not give significant impact on turnover intention. Although the perception of the possibility of service user risk gave statistically significant effect on the turnover intention, the direction was the opposite to the one set at the research hypothesis. Frequent camouflage behavior("surface acting") of caregivers, which is the kind of emotional labor led to increased turnover intention. However, caregivers'behavior consistent with their inner warm heart("deep acting") did not lead to a statistically significant result. Lastly, the more caregivers perceive their superiors'emotionally supportive leadership, the lower possibility of turnover intention. Based on the above result, the researchers suggested several intervention methods in order to prevent turnover of caregivers and improve service quality of long-term care institutions.

  • As South Korea has become an aged society, the dementia rate has also been increasing. With the introduction of both de-institutionalization and community care in 2017, the importance of community-based care has increased. Perspectives on dementia have also been shifting from the medical model and social model to the person-centered model. This paper suggests ways to improve dementia service through analyzing the dementia knowledge of care-givers at ADS. The paper includes an FGI with the care-givers who have worked for more than 2 years. Based on such FGI, the paper draws sub-themes from 7 areas. Among the suggestions for improvement are: community-based service with daily routine practice, improving awareness of dementia for co-living, and person-centered service based on individuality and diverseness.

Methods: Using a focus group interview method, qualitative data were collected from March to May 2012. Twenty five registered nurses and nurse aids working in nursing homes were recruited through a convenient sampling method. Participants participated in one of four focus group interviews lasted up to two hours in which their day-to-day experiences of taking care of the medical needs of the elderly residents. All interviews were recorded and transcribed in verbatim, and analyzed according to the qualitative thematic analysis method using MAXQDA software. Results: The overriding theme was 'experiencing differences between the requirements of the regulatory system and the actual reality of the work place.' The findings of differences between what were true and what is required was based in four subcategories. The nursing home residents had far more medical needs than what were reported. Another finding was that the family members were seen as non-supportive and negligent towards the residents. Conclusion: The findings of the study support the need for changes in the regulatory system. The regulatory limitations of current system with a shortage of resources pushed the participants to experience discrepancies between the required regulation and the reality. Additional research could contribute more exemplars to support changes.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the Person-centered Care Assessment Tool (P-CAT). Methods: The English P-CAT was translated into Korean with forward and backward translation. Survey data were collected from 458 staff in 17 long-term care facilities in Korea. Construct validity and criterion related validity were evaluated. Cronbach's alpha was used to assess reliability. Results: The Korean version of P-CAT was shown to be valid homogeneously by factor, item and content analysis. Internal consistency reliability was satisfactory in which the values of factor 1, factor 2 and the total scale were .84, .77 and .86 respectively. Exploratory factor analysis supported the construct validity with a two-factor solution. Factor loadings of the 13 items ranged in .34~.80. Criterion validity to the Person-centered Climate Questionnaire-staff (PCQ-S) was .74 (p<.001). Conclusion: The Korean version of the P-CAT was found to be an applicable instrument with satisfactory reliability and validity for further use in measuring successful person-centered care in long-term care facilities for older persons.

On the other side the facilities where the operation size is big recognize the system negatively. • The purpose of this study is to minimize radiation exposure to the workers and public members during CT examination. The objects are seven of the CT rooms in university hospitals and four of the CT rooms in clinics located in Busan and Gyung-nam area. The places of measurement for radiation leakage are 1) 3 m above the ground of shielding wall in the control room 2) particular space in the control room 3) worker's gate in the control room 4) the patient gate. Its values were calculated maximum leakage radiation per week(MLRW). As a result, the worker's gate of M clinic displayed the highest dose. When it was calculated by MLRW in classic method, it showed 1) $5.97{\pm}0.23$, 2) $0.50{\pm}0.02$, 3) $10.00{\pm}0.11$, 4) $2.37{\pm}0.47$ mR/week. All of them did not exceed limit for maximum permissible dose per week(MPDW). However, When MLRW of M clinic was calculated by empirical method, its value displayed $118.31{\pm}17.72$ mR/week.(MPDW>100 mR/week). Radiation leakage influenced in the control room(p<0.05). Therefore, The way of calculating MLRW must be developed and shielding wall in control room is designed 3 m above the ground for reducing dangerous of leakage radiation.
