Investigation on the Performance of Special Purpose Automotive Air-Conditioning System Using Dual Refrigeration Cycle (듀얼 냉동사이클을 이용하는 특수목적 자동차용 에어컨 시스템의 냉방성능에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the cooling performance of an air-conditioning system for a special purpose vehicle under tropical and severe weather conditions. In order to evaluate and compare the cooling performances, the dual refrigeration cycle using R-134a was tested on a special purpose vehicle with various refrigerant charge amounts and indoor temperatures. The cycle was tested considering indoor cooling speed and compression ratio (discharge pressure), and was optimized at the refrigerant charge amount of 1.5 kg and outdoor temperature of $40.0^{\circ}C$. The time to reach indoor temperature of $15.0^{\circ}C$ increased by 86.5% and 38.1%, at the indoor temperatures from $25.0^{\circ}C$ to $32.5^{\circ}C$ and from $32.5^{\circ}C$ to $40.0^{\circ}C$, respectively. In addition, with the increase in indoor temperature from $25.0^{\circ}C$ to $40.0^{\circ}C$, the cooling capacity increased by 7.3%, from 19.1 kW to 20.5 kW, but decreased by 7.0% from 4.67 to 5.1.

  • Outdoor design temperature is important for selecting proper capacity of heating and cooling systems of a building to implement indoor thermal comfort and save energy consumption. The purpose of this study is to investigate the change of South Korea outdoor design temperature according to the assigned period. When outdoor design temperature of 8 locations calculated with the latest weather data during 2008~2015 years using ASHRAE Bin method are compared to the standard temperature of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport which is widely used for designing South Korea air-conditioning system at present, the maximum temperature difference becomes $0.97^{\circ}C$ for cooling, and $1.94^{\circ}C$ for heating. Due to wide outdoor temperature variation, update of outdoor design temperature based on recent weather data is recommended.

  • Dedicated outdoor air(DOA) system which conditions the outdoor air separately is superior to conventional Cooling + reheating system with respect to energy consumption and indoor comfort. Since the sensible and latent load characteristics of indoor and outdoor are different, it is more efficient to treat them separately. In this study, cycle analysis and on-site performance test of DOA system have been conducted. The study shows that DOA requires 50% less equivalent energy than the conventional system. The on-site performance test of a prototype shows that the coefficient of performance(COP) of the DOA system is 37% higher than the conventional system.

  • 에너지 절약적 차원에서 한 대의 실외기에 다수의 실내기가 접속되는 개별공조형 멀티 열펌프에 관한 연구 및 개발과 보급이 증대되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 복수의 실내기를 갖고 가변속 압축기를 채용한 지열원 물대공기 멀티열펌프시스템을 학교 현장에 설치하여 제조사의 운전 제어 알고리즘에 따라 일일 냉난방 실증 성능 특성을 분석하였다. 2008년 9월 30일의 냉방부하가 낮은 일자에 대하여 시간에 따른 부하 변동에 따라 압축기의 용량가변으로 실내기 냉방용량은 정격용량 대비 17.1%에서 111.3%의 범위에서 변이되었으나, 열펌프 유닛의 일일 최대 COP는 6.2를 나타냈으며, 일일 평균 열펌프 유닛 COP는 4.5로 열펌프 유닛 인증 기준 이상의 성능을 나타냈다. 2008년 11월 10일 대비 2008년 12월 15일에는 시스템 가동 중의 평균 외기온도가 $9.6^{\circ}C$ 감소하였으나, 각 재실공간의 용도별 부분 부하특성으로 11월 10일 보다 난방 부하량이 작게 나타났다. 하지만, 12월 15일에는 부하량이 매우 작아서 11월 10일보다 잦은 압축기 가변에 따른 손실로 일일 평균 COP가 낮게 나타났다. 2009년 1월 12일에는 정격 용량대비 94%의 부하율로 11월 10일과 12월 15일 대비 4배 이상의 부하량으로 압축기 용량 가변율이 작아서 난방용량과 COP 변화율이 작게 나타났다. 2009년 1월 12일에는 지중순환수의 실외열교환기 유입온도가 2008년 12월 15일보다 감소하고, 시스템의 난방용량 증가로 상대적으로 응축기와 증발기 크기가 감소한 효과로 히트펌프 유닛 COP가 감소하였으나, 본 지열원 열펌프 제조사에서 생산하고 있는 본 지열원 시스템과 동일한 압축기 등을 채용한 동일 용량의 공기열원 열펌프의 1월 12일 외기온도 $-10^{\circ}C$에서의 열펌프 유닛 COP 대비 70% 우수한 성능을 나타냈다. 본 지열원 히트펌프의 2008년 11월 10일의 일일 평균 히트펌프 유닛 COP는 외기온도가 낮고 일일 부하량이 크게 나타난 1월 12일의 일일 평균 히트펌프 유닛 COP 대비 37% 높게 나타났으나, 지중순환펌프의 정속운전으로 시스템 요구 지중순환수 유량 증가에 따른 성능 향상보다 소비전력 증가 영향이 커서 1월 12일의 시스템 COP 보다 33.3% 작은 값을 나타냈다. 본 연구의 용량 가변형 압축기를 채용한 지열원 멀티 히트펌프 유닛을 지열원 냉난방 시스템의 히트펌프 유닛으로 사용할 경우 시스템 최적화를 통한 시스템 COP 향상과 연간에너지 절감을 이루기 위해서는 히트펌프의 용량 변화 시에 지중순환펌프의 순환 유량 최적화를 위한 효율적 운전 제어 알고리즘 개발이 요구된다.

A Study on Prediction of Temperature and Humidity for Estimation of Cooling Load (냉방부하 추정을 위한 온도와 습도 예측에 관한 연구)

  • To estimate the cooling load for the following day, outdoor temperature and humidity are needed in hourly base. But the meteorological administration forecasts only maximum and minimum temperature. New methodology is proposed for predicting hourly outdoor temperature and humidity by using the forecasted maximum and minimum temperature. The correlations for normalized outdoor temperature and specific humidity has been derived from the weather data for five years from 2001 to 2005 at Seoul, Daejeon and Pusan. The correlations for normalized temperature are independent of date, while the correlations for specific humidity are linearly dependent on date. The predicted results show fairly good agreement with the measured data. The prediction program is also developed for hourly outdoor dry bulb temperature, specific humidity, dew point, relative humidity, enthalpy and specific volume.

A Study on Performance Characteristics of Heat Pump System on Cooling Mode for Light-duty Commercial Electric Vehicles (EV 상용차용 히트펌프 시스템 냉방 운전 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The cooling performance of heat pump system for light-duty commercial electric vehicle was evaluated experimentally. The cooling performance characteristics of the heat pump for light-duty commercial electric vehicles were evaluated by varying the temperature, flow rate of chiller coolant, and electric compressor speed, under the exterior air temperature of 35 ℃ and interior air temperature of 25 ℃. Increasing the compressor speeds decreased the cooling system efficiency by 16.4 % on average with the cooling capacity increasing by 8.0 % on average and the compressor work increasing by 27% on average. To use waste heat from the coolant to chill power electronic components, such as the motor and inverter, a chiller was installed to transfer heat between the coolant and refrigerant. Increasing the temperature of the chiller coolant from 35 ℃ to 55 ℃ decreased the efficiency by 18.2 % on average due to higher condensing heat source. Increasing the coolant flow rate from 10 liter/min to 20 liter/min did not affect the cooling capacity of the system due to a similar total condensing heat transfer rate at the chiller and the exterior heat exchanger. In future works, heating performance will be investigated by varying the operating conditions to use the chiller's waste heat with an improvement of heating capacity.

A Study on Performance of Energy Recovery Ventilator under Outdoor Conditions in Korea (국내 외기조건에서 폐열회수 환기장치의 성능에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, a simulation program has been developed to predict the performance of energy recovery ventilators fur various indoor and outdoor conditions. In order to get a fundamental data about domestic air condition, the heat recovery ventilator is selected with the product of the wind quantity $250m^3/h$ Japanese M companies which are satisfied at High Efficiency Certification Standards. At the case on which the heat recovery ventilator is established, heating load decreases by 69.1% and cooling load decreases by 59.4% in Seoul, and heating load decreases by 66.4% and cooling load decreases by 59.6% in Pusan. The maximum humidification load of winter or summer time with $0.737{\ell}/h$ or $1.008{\ell}/h$ occurred in March from Kangnung or August from Mokpo respectively. In Southern part region and East Sea of winter time, the condensation or frost on exhaust side dose not occurred on exhaust side, but the area of that outside is occurred. Therefore, the preventive measure from the area except a southern part region and the east coast area must be considered, in order to condense or frost not to occur on exhaustion side in winter.

Optimal Control Strategies for Energy Saving of Central Cooling System with Outdoor Air Temperature Changes (외기온도 변화특성을 고려한 중앙냉방시스템의 에너지 절감 최적제어에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the optimal control method for minimizing of energy consumption for central cooling system with proper occupant comfort level is researched by simulation. The optimal control method is that the optimal set temperatures such as the condenser water temperature, supply air temperature, and chilled water temperature with environment variable change such as outdoor air dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures are obtained by suggested optimal control algorithm with maximum and part building load. The TRNSYS program is used for system modeling and the control performances with the suggested optimal control method are compared with the existing control method of fixed set points. The suggested optimal control method shows better responses in energy consumption in comparison with existing control ones.

Simulation on the performance of an automobile climate control system with Internal heat exchanger and TXV (내부열교환기와 TXV를 적용한 자동차용 공조시스템의 성능에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • Recently, automobile air conditioning systems have applied an alternative refrigerant that can replace the high GWP refrigerant R134a due to the global warming problem. This study simulated the performance of an automobile climate control system with an internal heat exchanger and TXV. Refrigerant R1234yf was applied as the working fluid. Amesim, a commercial software program, was used to model the main components of the compressor, condenser, TXV, evaporator, and internal heat exchanger. As the outside temperature increased from 30℃ to 40℃, the cooling capacity of the system decreased by 3.1%, and the power consumption of the compressor increased by 17.1%. In addition, The performance characteristics of the refrigeration cycle were simulated by increasing the fin pitch of the condenser from 0.8 mm to 1.4 mm. When the fin pitch was larger than 1.0 mm, the condenser capacity decreased, and the system COP was lowered by 5.9%. When the fin pitch of the condenser was 0.8 mm, which was smaller than 1.0 mm, there was no significant change in the system performance. Hence, the optimal performance was observed at a fin pitch of 1.0 mm.
