Acrosome staining with Coomassie brilliant blue G or R on the horse spermatozoa (Coomassie brilliant blue G 및 R을 이용한 말 정액 첨체 염색 기법)

  • To develop simple acrosome staining of horse spermatozoa, this study tested the binding properties of Coomassie brilliant blue G or R on the sperm smears after 3.7% paraformaldehyde (PF) or 35% methanol (MT) fixation. After being fixed with PF and stained with 0.05, 0.1, or 0.2 % of CBB G or R for 2 min, horse spermatozoa were examined for their intact acrosome status. The intact acrosome of fresh horse spermatozoa were 62.6% and 61.5% with 0.05% of the G and R CBB solution, but 80.2 and 79.7% with G type and 78.1 and 76.0% with R type. On the other hand, when MT was used for fixation, the acrosome reacting sperm ratio was 3.5%, but was 9.0% in the case of PF. These results show that the intact acrosome of horse sperm could be judged using a 0.1~0.2% CBB G or R staining technique. PF would be an essential fixative for examining acrosome reacting horse spermatozoa. This method could be used to identify sperm with a damaged acrosome during low-temperature storage or cryopreservation for artificial insemination of horses.

Coracoclavicular Ligament Augmentation Using Endobutton for Unstable Distal Clavicle Fractures - Preliminary Report - (불안정성 쇄골 원위부 골절에서의 Endobutton을 이용한 오구 쇄골 인대 보강술 - 예비 보고 -)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the radiologic and clinical outcomes after operative treatment using endobuttons for unstable distal clavicle fractures. Materials and Methods: Between October 2007 and September 2009, 9 consecutive patients who were followed up for at least more than 12 months after operative treatment using a TightRope$^{(R)}$ were studied. The radiologic results on the serial plain radiographs and the clinical results according to the American Shoulder Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score were analyzed. Result: Bony union was shown in 8 cases (88.9%) and the average time to union was 12.9 (range: 9~16) weeks. The average coracoclavicular distances at the postoperative and final follow-up were 5.6 mm and 6.2 mm, respectively, with no statistically significant difference (p>0.05). The average ASES score was 90.3 (range: 78~96) and the clinical outcomes were 6 excellent, 2 good and one fair. There were no complications such as implant failure or infection except for one case of nonunion due to loss of the initial reduction. Conclusion: A major advantage of TightRope$^{(R)}$ fixation for unstable distal clavicle fractures is that no further surgery is needed to remove the implant. We suggest that this technique provides an alternative for fracture with a distal fragment, which is difficult to fix.

  • The effectiveness of the resting cells of a photosynthetic bacterium, Rhodocyclus gelatinosus KUP-74, was investigated on the production of extracellular ${\delta}-aminolevulinate$ (ALA). The ALA generating system with 1.05 mg cells per milliliter required 6 hr-incubation to obtain maximal yield of extracellular ALA. Under this condition ALA inducers, i.e., levulinate or L-glutamate showed relatively low effects to increase extracellular ALA production. Instead, the volume of the system and proper cell density appeared to be important factors for effective production of the ALA. The life-span of the resting cells was remarkably extended to maintain stable production of the ALA by immobilization of cells.

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the distribution of associative nitrogen fixers, Azospirillum spp. and their nitrogenase activities measured by ARA in the rhizosphers of rice, soybean, and weed grown in the rice paddy field at ear formation stage of rice. Nitrogenase activities produced by Azospirillum spp. enriched from histophere ranged from 16 to 53 n mole/tube/hr.. High nitrogen fixing activities more than 30 n mole/tube/hr. were observed in the histophere of the Echinochloa crus-galli L., Finbristylis miliacea L., and Monochoria vaginalis var.. Nitrogen fixing activities of Azospirillum spp. obtained from single colonies which originated from the rhizoplane of rice (pot-kwang var.), Finbris tylis miliacea L., Monochoria vaginaliz var., Glycine max L. were higher over 100 n mole/tube/hr. than those histophere. Genus of Azopsirillum isoltated from roots of the Graminease (Oriza sativa L., $C_3$-plant, Echinochloa crus=galli L., $C_4$-plant, Cyperus difforuis L.. $C_4$-plant), and Aeschynomene indica L. (Leguminosae, $C_3$-plant) was identified as A. brasilense. However, both strains, A. lipoferum and A. brasilense ($nir^-$ or $nir^+$ strain) were isolated from other plant roots, Both $nir^-$ and $nir^+$ strains of A. brasilense were associated with the same host plant.

  • The differential quadrature method (DQM) for a system of coupled differential equations governing the elastic stability of thin-walled curved members is presented, and is applied to computation of the eigenvalues of out-of-plane buckling of curved beams subjected to uniformly distributed radial loads including a warping contribution. Critical loads with warping, which were found to be significant, are calculated for a single-span wide-flange beam with various end conditions, opening angles, and stiffness parameters. The results are compared with the exact methods available. New results are given for the case of both ends clamped and clamped-simply supported ends without comparison since no data are available The differential quadrature method gives good accuracy and stability compared with previous theoretical results.

Effect of Nandrolone Decanoate on Disuse Muscle Atrophy and Bone Beating in Dogs (개에서 불용성 근위축과 골절 치유에 대한 Nandrolone decanoate의 효과)

  • Anabolic steroid compounds are widely used for the increase of muscle mass, density of bone and athletic ability. The present study conducted to evaluate the effects of nandrolone decanoate (ND), one of the anabolic steroid compounds, on disuse muscle atrophy and healing process of bone in dogs. Twenty physically healthy dogs of both sexes were used in this experiment and divided into three groups: group A (control), group B (low dose M-1.5 mg/kg) and group C (high dose ND-7.5 mg/kg). One-mm strip of full thickness bone was excised from the radius below the pronator teres muscle for the artificial fracture and then the fractured ends were fixed in apposition with bone plate leaving 1mm gap, and finally immobilized externally by Robert John's bandage for 4 weeks. ND was administered intramuscularly once a week far 8 weeks. Body weight, muscle mass change and fracture gap of the bone were evaluated immediately after surgery, and 2, 4, and 8 weeks after surgery. The rates of muscle mass change 8 weeks after surgery were $-2.75\pm0.16\%,\;1.68\pm0.11\%\;and\;1.74\pm0.48\%$ in groups A, B and C, respectively. The significant increase (p<0.05) of muscle mass increments were found in the treated groups. The fibrous connective tissue layer in the fracture gaps of the treated groups increased more than the control, especially in the group C at 4th week. More dense fibrous connective tissue were found in the treated groups at 8th week. Collectively, our results suggested that ND was an effective anabolic agent for the immobilized disuse muscle and bone healing.

Market Discipline by Depositors : the Case of Mutual Savings Banks in Korea (상호저축은행과 예금자에 의한 시장규율)

  • This paper examines the disciplinary effect of deposits using the semiannual accounting data of mutual savings banks(henceforth 'MSBs') in Korea for the period of 2003 through 2007. I find overall strong evidence in favor of the existence of market discipline in the industry. MSBs with higher BIS ratio and lower NPL ratio turn out to have higher increase rate of deposits than MSBs with lower such ratios. The coefficient of NPL ratio becomes greater with time, suggesting that the effect is cumulative. It turns out that depositors respond more sensitively to NPL ratio than BIS ratio in a period of MSB failure. On the other hand, MSBs turn out to act very positively responding to the depositors' discipline. They increase BIS ratio or decrease NPL ratio following the previous decrease in deposits. Government authorities need to make more efforts to develop a suitable incentive system (e.g. penalties on a false disclosure) to improve the efficiency of disclosure by MSBs. Moreover, they need to acknowledge the importance of NPL ratio as a market disciplinary tool which has been becoming more important, especially in times of MSB failure.

  • WPS(WiFi Positioning System)는 무선 AP의 정보를 통해 현재 이동 객체의 위치를 찾는 시스템이다. 일반적으로 WPS는 실내외에 존재하는 고정 AP 신호 세기 특징을 활용하여 무선 LAN을 보유한 이동 객체가 현재 자신의 위치를 판단할 때 사용된다. 그러나 지금까지 WPS 기술을 대량의 이동객체를 관리하기 위한 목적으로 활용한 연구는 거의 없다. 본 논문은 스마트폰 환경에서 WPS의 기능과 테더링을 응용하여 대량의 이동객체의 이탈을 판단하기 위한 기법과 이를 확장하여 위치까지 추적할 수 있는 시스템에 대하여 제안한다.

  • With the rise of interest in sports and introduction of a five-day duty service, it is. increasing the desire for leisure and well-being recently. In this paper, 1 design and implement a baseball broadcasting system for PDAs to offer a sports broadcasting service using wireless network. The implemented baseball broadcasting system is composed of PDA clients, a relay reporter, and a relay server. Users can search and retrieve baseball-related information as well as relay broadcasting information using PDA.

비접촉 미소변위 측정 시스템에 대하여

  • 광학시 비접촉 미소 변위 계측 장치의 응용예는 앞서 소개한 응용 외에도 여러 분야에서 많이 활용되고 있다. 즉, 주행 중인 차량 바퀴의 얼라이먼트(alignment) 계측에 이용되기도 하며, 파괴 역학 분야에서 크랙 개구단부(COD)의 변위량 측정에도 이용되며, 충격 역학 분야에서는 변위의 출력 응답 특성이 경시적으로 대단히 복잡하게 변하는 동적 파괴 현상의 원인 규명의 목적으 로도 많이 활용되고 있다. 더욱이 눈부신 발전을 거듭하고 있는 재료 요소 기술 및 센서 기술의 도움으로 앞으로는 이러한 비접촉식 미소 변위 측정 시스템이 보다 더욱 다양하게 사용되어질 것으로 기대되며, 또한 점차 성능 및 가격적 측면에서도 고성능의 계측 시스템을 손쉽게 큰 부 담이 없이 구입 가능할 수 있으리라 믿는다. 그러나 한편으로는 고정도의 물리량의 계측은 꼭 최신의 고가의 장비로만 되는 것이 아니라는 점과, 이러한 계측 시스템의 활용 시에는 기본 검출 원리 및 특성의 이해와 더불어 각 시험 경우에 따른 측정치에 대한 검증 작업을 게을리 하지 말아야 된다는 점도 아울러 당부하고자 한다.
