  • The failures such as leakage and burst stemmed from the repetitive motions of bending and stretching of the assembly of hydraulic hose in construction machines, agriculture machines, vehicles, and industrial heavy machines can induce big troubles. Therefore, the hydraulic hose itself eventually requires an estimation of life to operate the hydraulic system safely. In this research, we have qualitatively selected the efficient test items by the analysis of the life and potential failures of hydraulic hose. We have used more than seven of hydraulic hoses simultaneously for the research. We have applied impulse pressure and half omega flexing motions to the accelerated life testing Test results have been expressed by employing weibull plot.

Optimal Replacement Policy for a Repairable System with Combination Warranty (혼합보증이 있는 수리 가능한 시스템에 대한 최적의 교체정책)

  • In this paper we present the optimal replacement policies following the expiration of combination warranty. We consider two types of combination warranty policies: renewing warranty and non-renewing warranty. The criterion used to determine the optimal replacement period is the expected cost rate per unit time from the user'perspective. The optimal maintenance period following the expiration of combination warranty is obtained. Some numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.

  • Accelerated degradation tests (ADTs) measuring failure-related degradation characteristic at the accelerated condition are widely used to assess the reliability of highly reliable products. Often, however, little degradation could be observed even in single-stress ADTs due to the high reliability of test unit, and as a result poor estimate of the reliability may be obtained. ADTs with multiple stress variables can be employed to overcome such difficulties. In this paper, optimal ADT plans with two stress variables are developed assuming that the degradation characteristic follows Weibull distribution by determining the stress levels, the proportion of test units allocated to each stress level such that the asymptotic variance of the maximum likelihood estimator of the q-th quantile of the lifetime distribution at the use condition is minimized.

  • The effect of specimen thickness on fatigue crack growth rate was studied. The objective of the present study is to investigate the effect of specimen thickness on the fatigue crack growth behavior at various stress intensity factor ranges and also the variation of material restance to fatigue crack growth. The fatigue crack growth resistance was treated as a spatial stochastic process, which varies randomly on the crack path, Compact tension specimens with a LT orientation for structural steel were used. All testing was done at a constant stress intensity level. The experimental data were analyzed for the size effect to determine the Weibull distributions of the material resistance.

  • The Weibull is widely used in reliability analysis, and several studies have attempted to improve estimation of the distribution's parameters. least squares estimation (LSE) or Maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) are often used to estimate distribution parameters. However, it has been proven that Bayesian methods are more suitable for small sample sizes than LSE and MLE. In this work, the Weibull parameter estimation accuracy of LSE, MLE, and Bayesian method are compared for sample sets with 3 to 30 data points. The Bayesian method was most accurate for sample sizes under 25, and the accuracy of the Bayesian method was similar to LSE and MLE as the sample size increased.

  • In power system study, relibility assessment has been an important topic during past several decards because sudden power interruption can bring about enormous economic loss. although the size of a substation is smaller than that of generation system or transmission system, switching actions after fault(s) make reliability assessment of substation rather complex situations such as switching actions easily and permit various probability distributions in describing substation elements. Despite this ability of Monte Carlo simulation, one-parameter exponential distribution is still popular in this reliability assessment. This paper examines the characteristics of several two-parameter probability distributions, and offers new parameter decision rule based on average and variance of the target to be modelled. In case study, this paper shows the profits by using Weibull distribution which is one of two-parameter probabilistic distributions instead of exponential one.

  • In this study, performs analysis of the life of parallel opening type pneumatic chucks that are usually applied in the factory automation line. Pneumatic chucks have complicated failure cause because they are organized as a complex of various elements. Therefore, we analyzed the main failure mode of pneumatic chuck, and then performed life test and performance test according to the international standards. On the basis of these processes, shape parameter of pneumatic chuk is proposed that is the main factor for the calculation of zero failure test time for the reliability of pneumatic chuck and their data analysis of life distribution.

  • In general, most industrial products exhibit bath-tub shaped curve for their failure rate functions. This distributional life model can be obtained by the Piecewise Weibull distribution. The least squares, maximum likelihood, and mixed methods of estimating the parameters of the Piecewise Weibull distribution are compared. The comparison is made by using the empirical mean squared errors of (a) the parameter estimates and (b) the estimated change-points, to summarize the results of 1000 simulated samples of three sizes - each 100, 150 and 200. The results are that the mixed method estimation comes to be the best as the sample sizes increase.

  • Fracture toughness of heterogeneous brittle materials such as poly crystalline ceramics used to present the size (thickness) effect as well as statistically distributed results. There is belief that both(size effect and scatter) must be associated with each other. However, no generally accepted theory has been established so far. Using statistical approach, a probabilistic modeling for the fracture toughness which describes the thickness effect was attempted in this paper, Weibull distribution of specific fracture energy(SFE)at local areas and Griffith criterion are applied to the model. In addition, the newly developed model was verified with experimental results of alumina.

  • Due to their high strength and good wear resistance, nitro-carburizing materials have been used for many machine components. However, the nitro-carburizing materials are found to have one disadvantage ; that is, their strength and fatigue life show larger scatter than those of non-heated metals. In this paper, therfore, the statistical chracteristics of non-heated and nitro-carburized specimens for SCM415 are investi- gated under two different of stress levels 1.15 .sigma. /sub .omega. / .leq. / .sigma. / sub .alpha. / .leq. / 1.25 .sigma. /sub .omega. /. Seven specimens at each stress level are tested by using rotating bending fatigue tester. The relation between a crack length and fatigue cycles can be arranged for Weibull distribution, and S-N curve using 95% reliability function is obtalined for nitro-carburized specimen.
