Combined Effect of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene(TNT) and Cadmium on Uptake and Phytotransformation of TNT by Abutilion avicennae (TNT(2,4,6-trinitrotoluene)와 카드물의 복합오염이 어저귀의 TNT 흡수 및 생물학적 전환에 미치는 영향)

  • Most of army depots contaminated with co-contaminants. 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene(TNT) and heavy metais. In phytormediation for the TNT, heavy metals may inhibit mineralization, transformation and sequestration of TNT by the plant. W studied effect of cadmium on TNT degradation and transformation by Abutilion avicenneae in hydroponic cultures. When cultured in 20 ㎎TNT/L and 1.3 ㎎Cd/L. the plant displayed phytotoxicities; reduction of leaf fresh, leaf roll, chlorosis, leaf loss and fresh weight loss. Phytotoxicity was severer in the combined contaminnts than in single contaminant. Because A. avicennae uptake just a little cadmium, 1.3 ㎎Cd/L induded in the TNT medium did not influece significanfly TNT transformation, translocation and distrivution by A. Therefore, the soil solution containing cadmium would not affect TNT degradation by Abutilion avicennae in Amy depots polluted with TNT.

  • This study deals with the development and improvement of a particle dispersion model for quick response to water pollutant accidents. The developed model is based on the shear dispersion theory where vertical mixing is done by step by step mixing by vertical and molecular diffusion algorithm. For the quick response to chemical accidents, an algorithm for multi-core modeling for the particle dispersion model is applied. After the application of multi-core operation using OpenMP directives to the model, the relation for the calculation time and particle size were determined along with the number of cores used for parallel programming to determine the model time for chemical accident responses. The results showed the adequate conditions for the modeling of chemical accidents for quick response and to increase the applicability of the model.

  • Contaminated sediments are the actual cause for deterioration of coastal-ecosystem. So the developed countries have been in the process of making an effort to develop new techniques for monitoring and solving this problem since 1960. In this research, suction type pump dredging system of pilot size for collecting the filth from the seabed has been designed and manufactured that can prevent or minimize the secondary pollution by filth diffusion. For the practical use, the application possibility of the developed system has been checked through a system performance test. And, the evaluation of system performance according to the underwater body type has been carried out for system optimization by using CFD. The performance tests for checking the efficiency of sediment collecting system are done under two conditions i.e. when the system is non-operational and when the system is self-propelled. The results of this research showed the possibility of the development of dredging system to remove just the upper parts of filth from seabed.

Quantitative Exposure Assessment of Indoor Radon Released from Groundwater (지하수로부터의 실내 라돈오염에 의한 정량적인 인체노출평가)

  • This study presents the quantitative exposure assessment of indoor radon released from groundwater. Most of the Indoor radon comes directly from soil beneath the basement or foundation. Recently, radon in groundwater releases to indoor air whenever the water is used and contributes to the total inhalation risk from indoor air. This study first develops a mathematical model to describe the transfer and distribution of radon released from groundwater in a house. Then, daily human exposures through inhalation or such radon are estimated with the model for an male adult based on two sets of exposure scenarios. The results obtained from the study would help increase the understanding of risk assessment issues associated with the indoor radon released from groundwater.

Simulation for application of pumping-and-treatment system to the recovery of non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) at and below the water table (토양의 포화지대에 분포하는 고밀도비수상액체(DNAPL)와 저밀도비수상액체(LNAPL)의 펌핑 제거공정에 대한 모사)

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of Pumping-and-Treatment system (PTS) for remediation of the saturated zones contaminated with NAPLs. A simulation is carried out for the removal of DNAPLs (denser-than-water non-aqueous phase liquids) and LNAPLS (lighter-than-water non-aqueous phase liquids) distributing at and below the water table. In the study, LNAPL and DNAPL are assumed to be n-hexane and 1,1-dichloroacetone, respectively. The model system studied consists of four heterogeneous soil layers with different permeabilities. Groundwater flows through the bottom layer and a pumping well is located under the initial water table. The time-driven deformation of the water table and removal efficiency of contaminants are estimated after vacuum application to the inlet of the well. In the calculation, FVM (Finite Volumetric Method) with SIMPLEC algorithm is applied. Results show that removal efficiencies of both DNAPL and LNAPL are negligible for the first 5 days after the PTS operation. However, when the cone-shape water table is formed around the inlet of the pumping well, the rapid removal rate is obtained since NAPLs migrate rapidly through the curvature of the water table. The removal efficiency of DNAPL is estimated to be higher than that of LNAPL due to the gravity. The results also show that the fluctuation or cone-shaped depression of the water table enhances the removal efficiency of NAPLs in saturated zones. The simulation results could provide a basis of the PTS design for the removal of NAPLs in saturated zones.

  • 미래 기후변화로 인해 집중 호우, 가뭄의 발생 빈도가 증가하고, 물 부족, 수질 오염 등으로 인해 합리적인 수자원 계획 및 관리의 중요성이 증가하고 있다. 기후변화는 유역간 물 이동량 뿐만 아니라 유역의 하천 유량 및 수질에 영향을 미치기 때문에, 물 이동량이 많은 유역에서는 기후변화 시나리오를 고려한 하천 유량 및 수질 변화를 정량적으로 평가해야 한다. 만경강 유역(1,602 ㎢)은 하류 지역에 비옥한 평야가 분포되어 있어 농업이 발달한 유역이나, 유역 내 가용 용수가 부족하여 인근에 위치한 금강 용담댐의 발전용수를 공급받아 사용하고 있다. 발달된 농경지로부터 발생되는 비점오염, 축산 점오염원으로 인한 수질 문제가 심각할 뿐만 아니라, 만경강의 수질은 궁극적으로 새만금호에 영향을 미치기 때문에 더욱 엄격한 관리가 필요하다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 유역간 물이동량, 취수량 등을 고려하여 Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT) 모형을 구축하였다. 2개의 수위-유량 관측소의 일자료와 2개의 수질관측소 월자료를 이용하여 보정(2012~2014) 및 검증(2016~2018)을 수행한 결과 유출량의 평균 Nash-Sutcliffe model Efficiency (NSE)는 0.49 ~ 0.51, SS, T-N, 그리고 T-P에 대한 평균 결정계수(Coefficient of determination, R2)는 0.73, 0.78, 0.72였다. 미래 기후변화에 따른 유역의 수문 및 수질 변화 분석을 위해 증발산량 산정이 가능한 RCP 8.5 기후변화 시나리오에 STARDEX를 활용하여 가장 습윤한 시나리오 및 가장 건조한 기후변화 시나리오를 각각 1개를 선정할 것이다. 선정된 시나리오를 구축된 SWAT 모형에 적용하여 미래 유역간 물이동이 유역의 하천 유량 및 수질에 미치는 영향을 미래 평가기간(S1:2011~2040, S2:2041~2070, S3:2071~2100)으로 구분하여 분석할 것이다.

  • 영상 수위 계측 방법은 카메라와 목자판만으로 이루어진 비교적 간단한 시스템과 육안으로 수위를 직접 확인할 수 있다는 장점을 가지고 있으나 실제 하천에서 장기간 운영시 목자판이 하천수와 직접 접촉하면서 필연적으로 발생하는 오염, 훼손, 부유물 부착 및 걸림 등의 이유로 목자판의 시인성이 떨어지면서 수면을 정확히 인식하지 못하여 오측이 증가하는 문제점이 발생하였다. 본 연구는 이와 같은 기존 수면인식방법의 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 새로운 수면인식방법을 제안한다. 새로운 수면인식방법은 목자판 영역과 수역이 포함된 시차가 있는 두 장 이상의 연속적인 영상에서 유수의 이동, 바람에 의한 물결 등으로 인해 초래된 수역의 요동을 판단하여 수면을 인식하고 수위를 계측하는 방법이다. 이 방법의 성능을 검증하기 위하여 목자판이 오염된 경우에 대하여 실내 및 현장 실험을 실시하였다. 두 경우의 실험결과에서 모두 기존 수면인식방법에서는 오염된 부분을 수면으로 잘못 인식하였으나, 새로운 방법에서는 수면을 정확하게 인식하여 올바른 수위를 측정할 수 있었다. 따라서 새로운 수면인식방법을 이용하면 기존 수면인식방법보다 정확도를 향상시킬 수 있을 것이며, 홍수시 목자판에 부유물이 걸리거나 목자판이 일부 파손된 경우, 목자판이 다단으로 설치된 경우 등에서도 수면을 정확하게 인식할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • There is a growing concern about the damage to aquatic ecosystem caused by immigration of non-indigenous species. It is estimated that more than 10,000 million tons of ballast water is transported by shipping activities annually, and ballast water has been recognised as a major vector for the transplant of aquatic species across bio-geographical boundaries. The problem of harmful aquatic organism in ballast water for the control and management of ships' ballast water and sediments was adopted and diplomatic conference of IMO at February 2004. At once ballast water is transported by shipping activities for organic compounds, nitrogen, phosphorus and heavy metal etc. but, It's fixing a focus only for the transported of pathogenic bacteria and non-indigenous species. Hence, this studies on the distribution of organic compounds, nitrogen, phosphorus and heavy metal in ballast water during the shipping activity with the basic data which is necessary to the systemic manage of ballast water.

  • 최근 수년간 동아시아지역의 황사는 국가간의 오염확산이라는 측면에서 매우 중요하게 취급되어지고 있다. 대부분의 황사연구는 침적량 예측을 주로 다루고 있는데, 한반도의 경우 매우 복잡한 지형분포를 하고 있어서 침적량의 분포를 정확히 추정하는데 어려움이 있다. 이러한 침적량의 예측연구에 기초적으로 사용되는 자료가 3차원의 바람장 예측자료이다. 지금까지의 황사 및 오염물 대기확산연구에 사용되는 바람자료는 한 지점의 관측치를 그 지역의 대표치로 간주하여 사용을 하거나, 지구규모의 바람장을 내ㆍ외삽을 하여 사용한 것이다.(Kim and Shin, 1991). Chemical Forms and Release Potential of Heavy Metals from the Lime Treated Sediments (석회 처리에 의한 오염 퇴적물 내 중금속의 형태 변화 및 용출 가능성)

  • Chemical forms and release potential of heavy metals were studied in the lime treated sediment of lake Chungcho. Chemical forms of heavy metals were analyzed using a sequential extraction method, and release potential of heavy metals was evaluated by the ratio of the content of labile forms to total metal one. Dominant form of Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn in the untreated sediments was organic/sulfidic form that is stable in the reducing environment such as the bottom of Lake Chungcho. With liming of the sediment, the chemical forms of studied metals were greatly changed from organic/sulfidic form to adsorbed and reducible form, especially Cd and Cu to adsorbed and reducible form, but Pb and Zn to reducible form. It is believed that increase of unstable form of heavy metals in the sediments by liming was caused by the increase of pH of the pore water at the expense of organic/sulfidic form. Thus, we concluded that the liming approach currently used in the treatment of dredged sediments might cause the increase of labile form which is easily dissolved, and may increase the release of metals from the sediment into overlying water.
