실감 통신의 구현을 위해서는 의사 소통 상대자가 서로 얼굴을 맞대고 이야기하는 것과 같은 분위기를 통신 단말을 통해 구현이 가능해야 하며, 상대방과의 상호작용도 가능해야 한다. 이러한 통신단말을 구현하기 위한 기본 조건은 연속시차에 기반한 눈에 피로감을 주지 않는 3차원 영상과 이들 영상과 접촉 및 분위기 전달이 가능한 감성 및 오감 수수 기술의 개발에 의해서만 충족된다. 이들 감성 및 오감 수수가 가능하기 위해서는 단말 자체가 디스플레이에 다수의 센서를 융합시킨 다 기능 융합미디어의 역할을 해야 하며 눈에 피로감과 시청자의 자세제한을 요구하지 않는 3차원 영상이 이 디스플레이를 통해 표시되어야한다.

Recently 'convergence' and 'communication' have been keywords in many areas. Artists and engineers have begun to communicate each other through collaboration based on new technologies. One of the exemplary technologies of this era of convergence is a technology of fusing five senses used by both Internet Art and industrial technologies such as car navigation systems and the iPhone. Sommerer and Mignonneau's Internet Art $\ll$Riding the Net$\gg$,$\ll$The Living Room$\gg$, and $\ll$The Living Web$\gg$ implement the Internet and the five-sense fusion technology to translate not only sound into visual images but also tactile senses into tempo-spatial representations. Likewise, industrial technologies such as car navigation systems and the iPhone employ the five-sense fusion technology of speech recognition, which leads to the expansion of the realm of senses in technology as seen in Internet Art. As examined in this study, the development of art and technology through their convergence will open up a new dimension of digital art and culture technology industry.

The Internet of Things era is approaching where all the things are equipped with smart sensors and communicate through internet. The three core technologies of the Internet of Things are 'detection technology' to get information from things and the environment, 'wired and wireless communications and network infrastructure skills' that support to connect things to the internet, and 'service interface technology' that processes the information appropriate to various services. Smart sensor application can expand to smartphone, smart cars, smart home systems, wearable electronic devices, telemedicine systems, and environmental monitoring systems, etc. In particular, technologies that mimic the five human senses. This study reviews the biological principles of the human senses and the principles of operation, research & development status, technology trends and market analysis of the sensors.

With the rapid spread of smart mobile products and practical use of wireless network, it became possible to offer the computing environment people can use anytime anywhere and it is predicted that portable computer as the next generation computing is to be put to practical use. This computer will be expected to have the new interface which provides realistic service through human's five senses as well as the interface through the visual and auditory senses. Accordingly, in this study, we are going to talk about the technology that expresses and reproduces what is based on olfactory information - closely related with memory among honan's five senses - in order to embody the lifelike user interface.
