Performance Analysis of a NOW According to the Number of Processes and Execution Time (프로세스의 수와 실행시간에 따른 NOW의 성능 분석)

  • Recently, instead of a high-cost supercomputer, there haws been widely used a NOW system that consists of low-cost PCs and workstations connected all over the network In a NOW, performance for parallel processing depends on the computation pouter of each computer and communication time. Currently, a lot of methods have been proposed in order to increase the performance of parallel processing. However, the previous results have been studied in the view of balancing work load as the computation pouter of each computer. If a computer has multiple work precesses in a NOW, we can predict a decrease of communication tire needed in message passing, Therefore, in this paper, we analyzes factors of improving the performance in the view of work precesses, and evaluates experimently an effect on total performance as the number of work processes increases. Also, we propose a new broadcasting method to be used in experiment of this paper. This paper uses the LAM/MPI for an experimental evaluation.

Fuzzy Clustering with Genre Preference for Collaborative Filtering

  • The scalability problem inherent in collaborative filtering-based recommender systems has been an issue in related studies during past decades. Clustering is a well-known technique for handling this problem, but has not been actively studied due to its low performance. This paper adopts a clustering method to overcome the scalability problem, inherent drawback of collaborative filtering systems. Furthermore, in order to handle performance degradation caused by applying clustering into collaborative filtering, we take two strategies into account. First, we use fuzzy clustering and secondly, we propose and apply a similarity estimation method based on user preference for movie genres. The proposed method of this study is evaluated through experiments and compared with several previous relevant methods in terms of major performance metrics. Experimental results show that the proposed demonstrated superior performance in prediction and rank accuracies and comparable performance to the best method in our experiments in recommendation accuracy.

  • There have been increased concerns on mobile stratospheric communication system(SCS) for the purpose of advanced service of personal and high speed communication systems. In fact, this SCS is considered and studied for IMT-2000 service by ITU. Although, it is important to make accurate channel model for prediction of the SCS performance, there is no measured channel data in this system. Thus, in this paper, we estimate the performance of SCS bye use of channel model provided by Corazza(2) and modified by You(3). And also, the effects of channel codings on system performance are analyzed by deriving bit error performance based on realistic Rician log-normal fading channel models. The performance results are divided into three kinds of areas with three kinds of elevation angles 20$^\cire$, 45$^\cire$, and 80$^\cire$. And also the effects of forward error correction channel codings on system performance with Hamming(7,4), HCH( IS,7) and convolutional code of constraint length 3 and code rate R=1/2.

Implementation of Real-time Data Stream Processing for Predictive Maintenance of Offshore Plants (해양플랜트의 예지보전을 위한 실시간 데이터 스트림 처리 구현)

  • In recent years, Big Data has been a topic of great interest for the production and operation work of offshore plants as well as for enterprise resource planning. The ability to predict future equipment performance based on historical results can be useful to shuttling assets to more productive areas. Specifically, a centrifugal compressor is one of the major piece of equipment in offshore plants. This machinery is very dangerous because it can explode due to failure, so it is necessary to monitor its performance in real time. In this paper, we present stream data processing architecture that can be used to compute the performance of the centrifugal compressor. Our system consists of two major components: a virtual tag stream generator and a real-time data stream manager. In order to provide scalability for our system, we exploit a parallel programming approach to use multi-core CPUs to process the massive amount of stream data. In addition, we provide experimental evidence that demonstrates improvements in the stream data processing for the centrifugal compressor.

Adaptive MPSAM technology for Compensation of Rayleigh Fading Channels (레일레이 페이딩 채널 보상을 위한 적응형 MPSAM 기술)

  • In this paper, the adaptive MPSAM is suggested in order to analyze and improve problems caused by the case of the impact of delay waves on Pilot Symbol Assisted Modulation (PSAM), a singular Pilot method. PSAM predicts and compensates amplitude and phases caused on fading channels, using the Pilot Symbol. In addition, the Basic method is not only analyzed but also grafted onto the suggested method properly; therefore, the performance could be improved. Comparing to the Basic method, the BER performance can be distinguished in case that the level of delay on delay waves with the suggested method goes below 0.7. On the other hand, the BER performance can be inferior due to a considerable effect of the adjacent symbol in the event that the level of delay on delay waves is worse. However, the BER performance is rather improved on the point where the level of delay on delay waves is serious because the Basic method uses reciprocal compensation. Hence, stable improvement can be expected in all areas which receive the influence of delay waves within one symbol once grafted onto the suggested method.

A Study on the Scale Effect and Improvement of Resistance Performance Based on Running Attitude Control of Small High-Speed Vessel (소형 고속선박의 항주자세 제어에 따른 저항성능 개선 및 축척 효과에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, a trim tab on the stern hull of a small high-speed vessel of approximately 10 m length sailing at a Froude number of 1.0 was designed for energy efficiency. The running attitude and resistance performance of the bare hull and trim tab hull at several angles to the base line were analyzed for model and full scale ships using computational fluid dynamics, and compared to investigate the scale effect. The analysis results for the bare hull were quite similar, but a difference in the attitude control under same conditions of the trim tab was observed, resulting in the total resistance error. However, there was no significant difference in tendency of the variation in the resistance with the attitude. Thus, the optimum running attitude could be determined from the tendency despite the scale effect, but a full scale analysis is required to analyze the control of the attitude by the trim tab and flow characteristics near the full scale ship.

  • This study aims to analyze the aerodynamics when the geometry of the turbine rotor is modified. The turbine used in this study is a small engine used in the APU of a helicopter. It is difficult to improve the performance of small engines owing to the structural weakness of the blade tip. Therefore, the improvement of the hub geometry is investigated in many ways. The working fluid of a turbine is a high-temperature and high-pressure gas. The heat transfer rate of the turbine surface should be considered to avoid the destruction of blade owing to the heat load. The SST turbulence model gives an excellent prediction of the aerodynamic behavior and heat transfer characteristics when the numerical simulations are compared with the experimental results. In conclusion, the aerodynamic efficiency is improved when a bulbous design is applied to the leading edge near the hub. The endwall loss is reduced by 15%.

난방운전의 최적제어방안 중심 공동주택의 열성능 향상 방안

  • 현재 범국가적 차원에서 지속적인 국가 경제 발전과 국제수지 개선을 위하여 추진되고 있는 정부의 에너지 절약사업에서 건물부문이 차지하는 에너지절약 효과는 막중하다. 특히 전체주택에서 공동주택이 차지하는 비율은 1990년에 32.1$\%$, 서울시의 경우 51.3$\%$로 전체 주택의 과반수를 넘어섰으며, 수도권의 대단위 아파트단지의 개발과 함께 공동주택의 증가추세는 당분간 지속될 전망이다. 본 연구는 공동주택의 최적난방 운전기법 개발을 위한 1차년도의 연구로서 현행 공동주택의 난방운전 실태를 조사, 분석하고 각 난방법에 따른 문제점 및 최적제어 알고리즘의 개발을 위한 자료 도출을 주 목적으로 진행되었다. 1차년도에 수행된 연구의 주요 내용을 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 공동주택의 난방에너지 소비현상은 단지에 따라 최대 3배이상의 열사용량에 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 열사용량의 차이는 건축의 기본 열성능, 설비시설의 수준 및 노후화정도에 영향을 받으나 동일 연대의 단지들에서도 최대 80$\%$이상의 열사용량이 차이를 보이고 있었으며 이는 기계실 및 각 세대의 난방운전방법 및 제어수준에 따른 것으로 평가되었다. 세대의 층별, 위치별 열사용량 분석에 의하면 층별 열사용량차이가 큰 것으로 분석되었으며, 특히 최상층부와 최하층부의 열사용량이 뚜렷이 많이 나타나 단열성능의 강화가 요구되는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 샘플단지에 대한 측정 데이터를 통해 적정 열량공급시간대의 설정과 외기온의 변화에 따른 적정 온수공급온도의 설정조건 및 유량제어 효과등에 대한 분석 및 검토를 하였으며, 이를 통해 2차년도의 개발목표인 최적운전제어 방안의 제시를 위한 자료를 구축하였다. 또한 각 세대의 기밀성능이 공동주택의 열성능에 미치는 영향을 도출하기 위하여 샘플단지에 대해 트레스가스 측정법과 Blower Door법에 의하여 환기 및 기밀상태를 평가 하였으며 측정주호에 대한 환기를 예측할 수 있는 환기예측평가식을 제시하였다.

An Effective MC-BCS-SPL Algorithm and Its Performance Comparison with Respect to Prediction Structuring Method (효과적인 MC-BCS-SPL 알고리즘과 예측 구조 방식에 따른 성능 비교)

  • Recently, distributed compressed video sensing (DCVS) has been actively studied in order to achieve a low complexity video encoder by integrating both compressed sensing and distributed video coding characteristics. Conventionally, a motion compensated block compressed sensing with smoothed projected Landweber (MC-BCS-SPL) has been considered as an effective scheme of DCVS with all compressed sensing frames pursuing the simplest sampling. In this scheme, video frames are separately classified into key frames and WZ frames. However, when reconstructing WZ frame with conventional MC-BCS-SPL scheme at the decoder side, the visual qualities are poor for temporally active video sequences. In this paper, to overcome the drawbacks of the conventional scheme, an enhanced MC-BCS-SPL algorithm is proposed, which corrects the initial image with reference to the key frame using a high correlation between adjacent key frames. The proposed scheme is analyzed with respect to GOP (Group of Pictures) structuring method. Experimental results show that the proposed method performs better than conventional MC-BCS-SPL in rate-distortion.

Lane Information Fusion Scheme using Multiple Lane Sensors (다중센서 기반 차선정보 시공간 융합기법)

  • Most of the mono-camera based lane detection systems are fragile on poor illumination conditions. In order to compensate limitations of single sensor utilization, lane information fusion system using multiple lane sensors is an alternative to stabilize performance and guarantee high precision. However, conventional fusion schemes, which only concerns object detection, are inappropriate to apply to the lane information fusion. Even few studies considering lane information fusion have dealt with limited aids on back-up sensor or omitted cases of asynchronous multi-rate and coverage. In this paper, we propose a lane information fusion scheme utilizing multiple lane sensors with different coverage and cycle. The precise lane information fusion is achieved by the proposed fusion framework which considers individual ranging capability and processing time of diverse types of lane sensors. In addition, a novel lane estimation model is proposed to synchronize multi-rate sensors precisely by up-sampling spare lane information signals. Through quantitative vehicle-level experiments with around view monitoring system and frontal camera system, we demonstrate the robustness of the proposed lane fusion scheme.
