  • With the rapid development of information and communication technology, the speed of data production has increased rapidly, and this is represented by the concept of big data. Discussions on quality and reliability are also underway for big data whose data scale has rapidly increased in a short period of time. On the other hand, small data is minimal data of excellent quality and means data necessary for a specific problem situation. In the field of culture and arts, data of various types and topics exist, and research using big data technology is being conducted. However, research on whether basic information about culture and arts institutions is accurately provided and utilized is insufficient. The basic information of an institution can be an essential basis used in most big data analysis and becomes a starting point for identifying an institution. This study collected data dealing with the basic information of culture and arts institutions to define common metadata and constructed small data in the form of a knowledge graph linking institutions around common metadata. This can be a way to explore the types and characteristics of culture and arts institutions in an integrated way.

  • This article intends to shed a light on the British architect Arthur S. Dixon (1856-1929). He is largely regarded as a pioneer of the English Art and Craft Movement, yet his works are not widely known nor carefully studied. In search of Dixon's architectural characteristics, this paper examined three notable buildings that he designed at the turn of the nineteenth century; Birmingham Guildhall, St. Andrews church and St. Basil's Church. These buildings were erected relatively early in his career as an architect, although he never fully immersed into the profession due to his commitment in family business management. His architectural design shows unique qualities of Art and Craft movement in terms of use of material, spatial arrangement, techniques, and craftsmanship while employing Romanesque as most relevant historic style for ecclesiastical purposes.

In the field of flower design, it is found that there is a tendency to seek a new expression by utilizing various new materials instead of natural material that used in the past. This study is an attempt of applying methodological approach in the creation of floral art works utilizing the characteristics of contemporary materials in such context. The researcher gathered cases of specific effect and sensation in the expression of art works using various contemporary materials and extracted the characteristics using descriptive sentences applying behavior setting analysis technique. Reporting detailed result of the research total 100 guidelines under 41 sub-categories, 24 mid-categories, and 6 top categories such as transparency, lighting, combination of objects, combination of materials, reflection, shape construction. The researcher tested the effectiveness of the theories by applying deducted theories as the guidelines in creation process of her own floral art works. The significance of this study lies at experimenting the possibilities of applying methodological approach which could supplement intuitive approach in pursuit of expression for artists in the field of floral art and design.

  • Profound changes have occurred in the archival landscape since the advent of community archives and the global spread of archival art. This trend can be seen in Korea where a noticeable growth in archival arts and local community archives can be observed. This study explores how archival arts in Korea function when they are specifically intended to play a role in local community archiving. For this purpose, we analyzed the 'Gyeonggi archive_Now (2018)' and 'Seongbuk Documenta (2016-2018)' exhibitions, which were both exemplary cases of archival arts exhibited in connection with local community archives. Based on the analysis of the Gyeonggi Archive, which was aimed at strengthening the local identity of Gyeonggi Province, as well as the analysis of Seongbuk Documenta, which focused on the loss of place that resulted from redevelopment projects in the area of Seongbuk-gu, this study identifies the multiple roles of artists in archiving work. This study also reveals the variety of archiving works that exist and illuminates the value that such initiatives have in constructing local identity and reviving a sense of place. In particular, this research shows that archival art has the potential to empower local community archives while also providing opportunities to boost artistic creation. Our research concludes by highlighting the necessity of promoting the right environment and conditions that are required for archival arts if they are to play a role not only in keeping records and memories but also in producing further knowledge and discourse in a local community.
