  • The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental data for robot-based education at home by analyzing the factors affecting the recognition and technology acceptance attitudes of mothers with young children. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was administered to 319 mothers with young children in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, and one-way ANOVA, chi-square, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were conducted for statistical verification. As a result, there was a significant difference in the robot-based education at home of mothers to child according to their final educational background. Mothers' acceptance intention, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, social influence of robot application and personal innovation were all positively correlated. The factors that affect intention of acceptance were perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness of robot application. Conclusively, mothers with young children use robot-based education at home when it is more convenient to use and has educational effects more than the personal innovation or social influence. These study results are meaningful ahead of the 4th industrial revolution in that we provided basic data for the correct direction of robot-based education to young children at home.

  • This study explored time-use patterns of young children and compared the patterns according to mother's employment status. Using 6718 time diaries of 3359 children under age 5, as reported by their mothers, this study examined (1) the proportion of children who spent time on certain activities and the amount of time they spent on each activity for a weekday and a weekend day and (2) the proportion and the amount of time that children spent with certain adults. Compared to children with unemployed mothers, children with employed mothers spent more time during weekdays in child care centers and less time sleeping. These children also spent more time on education during weekends. The proportionate and actual times children spent with various adults also differed by the mother's employment status. Those with employed mothers spent less time with their mothers and more time with other relatives or teachers on weekdays. These results indicate that maternal employment corresponds with differing timeuse patterns from children's early life stages.

  • This study sought to analyze the trends in research on Korean fathers with young children. In this study, journal articles related to child and family studies, early childhood education and childcare published between 1980 and 2006 were analyzed for research frequency, content, and methodology. The study results were as follows. First, 56 research articles on Korean fathers with young children were published during this period of time. Second, the research was primarily focused on fathering attitudes and the relationships between the characteristics of the father and the development of the child. Third, the majority of the studies used methods categorized as quantitative and non-experimental: the subjects included more than 100 fathers with 3-5-year-old children. Research instruments validated in foreign countries (52.4%), surveys (75.4%), and quantitative data analysis methods (98.2%) were primarily used in these research studies. Finally, the results of this study suggest that further studies concerning Korean fathers with young children need to be conducted according to current research trends, content, and methodology.

  • This study aims to examine the experiences and significance of a mother's learning community, which is a voluntary small get together of mothers who have infants and young children. For this, a participatory observation and in-depth interview were carried out from June 2012 to January 2013 targeting eight mothers who participated in the mothers' learning community. The mother's learning community is organized by mothers who mainly live and raise young children in P city. First, the mother's learning community gave three kinds of experience to mothers: finding ways of communication through the new meetings, a feeling of fulfillment through voluntary participation, and enjoying the pleasure of being recognized from other people. Second, the significance in this experience could be observed to allow children to have the pleasure of rapport with their mothers, to make more conversation at home, and to allow the community to have significance as network of life. The results of this study will be used as basic data in the mother's learning community in the near future, and for casting a lime light for follow-up research.
