This study aimed to explore the effects of private tutoring expenses, parents' monitoring affection, their children's learning value and self-regulated learning abilities on middle-school boys' and girls' English Math academic achievement. The subjects were the 3rd middle-school 1,123 students taking the private tutoring of English and Math who participated in the Korea Child Youth Panel Surveys(KCYPS). The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, correlations and hierarchical regressions. The main results of this study were as follows. Firstly, regardless of middle-school students' sex, as monthly average private tutoring expenses were more, the levels of parents' monitoring, and their children's learning value self-regulated learning abilities were higher, so middle-school students' academic achievement was higher. Secondly, regardless of middle-school students' sex, their self-regulated learning abilities were the highest predictors of English Math achievement. Also, their learning value and parents' monitoring influenced middle-school boys' English Math achievement in order. On the other hand, monthly average private tutoring expenses influenced middle-school girls' English Math achievement. Furthermore there were no moderating effects of parents' monitoring affection, their children's learning value and self-regulated learning abilities between monthly average private tutoring expenses and middle-school boys' and girls' English Math achievement. Finally, based on the results, the importance of parents and Home Economics was suggested in attaining middle-school students' higher academic achievement. Especially, Home Economics can play an important role of enhancing middle-school students' self-regulated learning abilities and learning value necessary for middle-school students' higher academic achievement.

Modern society is rapidly changing by the Internet, and it is getting influential on the field of education. Learners can learn what they want to learn actively and freely at their desired level at anywhere in their free time by using the internet. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to find out the methods for improving writing ability through e-learning. The results of the study are as follows: First, learners can attend a lecture to improve their writing ability and can get learning materials from on-line course sites, internet websites, communities and blogs. Second, e-learning is learner-centered education, so it stimulates learners learning motivation and interest. Third, learners have an opportunity to express their ideas freely, and they can gain cultural comprehension while they communicate with people in the world by e-mail and chatting.

멀티미디어 기능과 더불어 인터넷과 컴퓨터를 이용한 학습은 교육의 큰 영역으로 자리 잡고 있다. 하지만 기존의 PC 환경에서는 학교와 가정 등 고정된 장소에서의 이용이라는 제약이 따른다. 이러한 제한점은 모바일 기기들의 보급 확대와 모바일 기기의 성능 향상으로 극복될 수 있다. 특히 PDA(Personal Digital Assistant)는 데이터를 축적하거나 멀티미디어 교육 자료를 이용하는 등 온라인 교육용 컨텐츠를 학습자에게 전달하고 효과적으로 커뮤니케이션 하는데 적합하다고 할 수 있겠다. 하지만 기존의 PC 기반 컨텐츠들은 PDA기반으로 재구축 되어야 사용이 가능한 실정이다. 이에 PDA의 장점인 휴대성, 저장성, 멀티미디어 이용, 인터넷 이용, PC와 동기화를 통한 데이터 공유 등을 이용할 수 있는 고등학교 영어 듣기 평가를 PDA에서 학습할 수 있도록 eMbedded Visual Tools을 이용해 Windows CE 3.0 기반 PDA에서 구현하였다.

This study aimed at exploring how an instructor constructs meanings through content-based instruction (CBI) offered to pre-service teachers majoring in early childhood education. The course, early childhood mathematics education, was conducted during the spring semester in 2011. This study adopted a narrative inquiry, and data were collected through observations, interviews, and work samples. This study found that during the whole process from the preparation phase to the end-of-program evaluation, the instructor captured diverse challenging moments. During the preparation phase, she needed to have careful orchestration in designing lessons in order to overcome her feeling of pressure as a non-native speaker of English and design the integration of contents and English language learning to be truly powerful. In the phase of implementation, the lack of student motivation and building a good rapport between the instructor and the students were certainly challenges. The result of the student evaluations weakened her desire to implement CBI. The instructor incorporated diverse instructional strategies to overcome the obstacles. The instructor's experiences in this study will positively shape future educators' thinking and learning about meaningful and appropriate academic English instruction for content-area teaching of college students who were majoring in early childhood education.

With the recent rise in the use of AI-based online translation tools, interest in their methods and effects on education has grown. This study involved 30 prospective elementary school teachers who completed an English writing task using an AI-based online translation tool. The study focused on assessing the impact of these tools on English writing skills and their practical applications. It examined the usability, educational value, and the advantages and disadvantages of the AI translation tool. Through data collected via writing tests, surveys, and interviews, the study revealed that the use of translation tools positively affects English writing skills. From the learners' perspective, these tools were perceived to provide support and convenience for learning. However, there was also recognition of the need for educational strategies to effectively use these tools, alongside concerns about methods to enhance the completeness or accuracy of translations and the potential for over-reliance on the tools. The study concluded that for effective utilization of translation tools, the implementation of educational strategies and the role of the teacher are crucial.

This study aims to help Korean English learners to learn English pronunciation by revealing which suprasegmentals affect the implementation of English sentences closer to native English speakers when they read English sentences. To this end, Korean middle school English learners were selected as subjects and research data were gathered through sentence types (declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamative), as well as syllables. Speech rate, pause frequency, pause duration, F0 range, and rhythm among suprasegmentals were used for analysis of these English sentence utterances. Mean analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were performed. The results showed that speech rate, pause frequency, pause duration, and F0 range affected the evaluation of fluency levels. In the regression analysis between all suprasegmentals and fluency levels, the suprasegmentals that most affected fluency levels were speech rate and F0 range. Rhythm had no meaningful relation with fluency levels. Therefore, when teaching English pronunciation, it is necessary to teach students to increase their speech rate and F0 range. In addition, students should be trained to reduce both the number and the duration of pauses during utterance to improve their fluency. It is noteworthy that of the four sentence types, exclamative sentences were produced with faster speech rate, fewer pauses, shorter pause duration, and higher rhythm values.

Using the 1st and 7th waves of KEEP(Korea Education and Employment Panel), this study explores the relationships among 212 participants' characteristics during high school, experience of taking English-mediated subject courses(EMSC) during college, career decision types, and employment status. These students' high school experiences and college experiences were used to predict the log-odds of taking and the understanding EMSC. Results of the analysis showed that none of high school characteristics such as career decision, English private education experience, interest in English, and their scholastic aptitude test score in English were associated with taking and understanding EMSC. Among college experience variables, only female students' level of understanding English subject courses was statistically significantly higher than that of male students. There were statistically significant positive associations between the understanding the EMSC and the number of the EMSC taken and also between the understanding of the EMSC and perceived usefulness of the EMSC. There was also a statistically significant relationship between career types (continuing with graduate studies vs. working) and taking EMSC, but the relationship between career types and understanding the EMSC was not statistically significant. In addition, the relationship between the experience of taking EMSC and employment status was not statistically significant.

The purpose of this paper is to suggest design principles for videoconferencing using an English Native Speaker. For this, Design-Based Research which is emerging newly was applied. During the research period of 3 months, several English classes were recorded. After finishing each class, Korean teacher and Native teacher wrote reflective diary and a researcher implemented interviews to students who had this class. Based on these data, this class was divided into 3 steps which is consisted of before class, under class, and after class. And then a research analysed patterns of this class, errors, and interactivity etc. The result of this paper, because a Korean teacher and students in the classroom meet a Native speaker in the distance through the videoconferencing system, teachers who design this class should consider many aspects due to the complexity of this.

Although distance education system based on WBI theory has already been generalized in domestic universities and some private academical institutes, the use of the system in the real fields of schools is in the early stage now. In this paper, we develop a model of English learning system for middle school students and improve students' learning methods through the system. The system also makes students study all the learning topics which they choose in the system freely and repeatedly. It was applied to the middle school students. The analysis of the application showed the following results. First, it was very effective for students to achieve the learning objectives of the course of English. Second, the system made students improve their abilities to study English and also increase their abilities to surf the Internet and glean useful information. Third, the system made it possible for students to accomplish individual learning.

In digital age, multimedia technology has changed the learning method as a learner-directed way. CD-rom and internet that are major two multimedia learning way, has aimed at edutainment which combine education and entertainment. However, existing educational contents can only induce temporary learning motivation, and are in short of entertaining factors enough to induce continuous and ingenuous learning motivation. Therefore, in order to be used by users efficiently, educational software have to adapt characteristics of educational game more actively. In this paper, adoption method of characteristics of educational game in learning contents is sought and the specific example of adoption is demonstrated by a case study of developing vocabulary learning educational game.
