Removal Efficiency of Heavy Metals and Nutrients by Zeolite and Basic Oxygen Furnace Slag (제올라이트와 제강슬래그에 의한 중금속과 영양염류 복합오염물질의 제거 효과)

  • Permeable reactive barrier has been recognized as the one of representative methods for remediation of contaminated groundwater. Reactive barrier system containing two and more reactive materials can remove multiple contaminants such as nutritive salts and heavy metals. In this study, removal efficiency of multiple contaminants was evaluated when both zeolite and basic oxygen furnace slag were used as reactive materials. Sequential batch test which consists of two materials was performed to evaluate removal efficiency comparing the reaction order of them against nutritive slats including ammonium and phosphate and heavy metal including cadmium. As a result, zeolite-basic oxygen furnace slag sequence batch test showed the best efficiency for removal of multiple contaminants including nutritive salts and heavy metal.

고탁도 해역의 온배수 활용을 위한 탁도저감시스템 효과분석

  • 고탁도 해역에 배출되는 온배수를 활용하기 위해 탁도로 인한 열교환기의 오염부하가 줄어 들 수 있도록 탁도저감시스템을 시스템에 열교환기 이전단계에 추가하여 운전하였으며 탁도저감시스템으로 인한 탁도, 부유물질, 영양염류의 제거능 평가를 실시하였다. 평가결과 탁도개선시스템의 운전으로 인해 약 80%정도의 탁도가 저감 되는 것을 확인하였으며 부유물질 제거 효율은 약 13~29%정도였다. 기타 영양염류의 제거효율은 미미하였으나 본 시스템의 목적인 탁도저감을 위해서는 효과적인 시스템이라 판단된다.

Analysis of Purification Capacity of Paddy Fields Using Nutrient Balance (논에서 영양물지 수지를 이용한 논 정화능력 분석)

  • In this study, the nutrient removal capacity of paddy field was investigated. Paddy field was considered as a constructed wetland. The present study was conducted during a cropping period in a rice cultivation area located in Hampyung-gun, Jeollanamdo, Korea. Water balance and mass balance of nutrients were estimated after intensive field monitoring. The surface runoff losses of T-N and T-P were 20.82 kg/ha and 1.55 kg/ha, respectively. The losses were 13.2% and 6.4% of T-N and T-P input into paddy fields, respectively. The results showed that the paddy fields have nutrient removal function.

A Study on the Removal of Pollutants from Wastewater by Aquatic Macrophytes (수생식물에 의한 폐수의 오염물질제거에 관한 연구)

  • Macrophyte plays an important role in purification of wastewater. They have capacity to improve the water quality by absorbing nutrients, with their effective root system. In this study, removal of nutrient as well as organic matter was observed by some important macrophytes i.e. Pistia stratoites, Hydrocharis dubia and Salvinia sp. indepe ndently as well as in mixed culture under the laboratory condition. The highest total nitrogen removal was observed for Pistia stratoites (86.47%) in monoculture and Salvinia sp. + P. stratoites (76.11%) in mixed culture system. Corresponding figures for total phosphorous were observed for P. stratoites (75.60%) in monoculture and Salvinia sp. + P. stratoites (71.11%) in mixed culture system. Similar result was observed for ammonia removal in both systems. Additionally, P. stratoites showed the highest removal of organic matter, in monoculture system (68.46%) where as Salvinia sp. + P. stratoites showed the highest removal of organic matter in mixed culture system (82.73 %).

Analysis of the Factors Affecting Nutrients Removal in Hybrid Constructed Wetland Treating Stormwater Runoff (강우 유출수 처리를 위한 하이브리드 인공습지의 영양물질 저감 인자 분석)

  • Nutrients generated from various land uses lead to eutrophication during the influx of water, and it is necessary to apply the LID techniques to reduce nutrients from nonpoint sources in order to mitigate the occurrence of the algal bloom. This study was carried out to derive the design factors of hybrid artificial wetland (HCW) to increase the removal efficiency of nutrients. HCW system was constructed in the year 2010 for the treatment of rainfall runoffs from parking lots and roads composed of 100% impervious floors in the Cheonan campus of Kongju University. The average nutrients removal efficiency of TN and TP was 74% and 72%, respectively. Both TN and TP removal efficiencies were higher than those of free surface wetlands and subsurface flow wetlands due to activated physical and ecological mechanisms. The critical design parameters for the efficient nutrients removal in the artificial wetlands were the ratio of the surface area to the catchment area (SA/CA), land use, the rainfall runoff, and the rainfall intensity. The optimal carbon to nitrogen (C/N) ratio was estimated at 5: 1 to 10.3: 1. The results of this study can be applied to the efficient design of hybrid artificial wetlands to treat nutrients in urban runoff with high efficiency.

저수지 유입부에 조성한 저류지의 수질개선효과 및 미생물학적 특성

  • 유역의 경사가 비교적 급하고, 소규모 축산농가의 미처리된 축산폐수 및 농경지 배수, 산재된 마을하수 등 비점오염원의 유출이 강우시 집중적으로 이루어지는 중산간 농업용 저수지의 수질개선을 위한 공법으로 부영양화된 충남 아산 마산저수지의 유입부에 조성한 저류지를 이용한 수질개선효과 및 물질분해자로서 미생물학적 특성을 2000년부터 2002년까지 3년간 연구함으로서 향후 유사한 농업용저수지의 수질개선 방안으로 실용화 가능성을 모색하고자 하였다. 그 결과 수질정화효과는 총질소와 총인 등 영양염류의 정화효과가 비교적 우수하게 나타났으며, 유기오염물질로서 BOD, COD, SS 등은 평균 수질정화효과는 (-)의 값을 보여주었으나, 강우기에는 정화효율이 높게 나타났다 또한, 저류지의 물질 침전기능 외 오염물질의 활발한 분해작용을 살펴보고자 세균 분포 특성을 조사한 결과 유입수와 저류지, 저수지 각각의 수체에서 조사된 총세균수 및 총세균수에 대한 진정세균수의 비율이 유입수<저류지<유출수의 순으로 나타나 저류지의 유기물질 분해 활성이 높음을 보여주고 있다. 따라서 저수지 유입부에 조성한 저류지의 수질개선효과는 강우시 입자성 유기물질의 효과적 제거 뿐만아니라 영양염류의 제거효과, 특히 질소의 제거효과가 높은 정화기구로서 설치비용이 적고, 유지관리가 간단한 특성을 살려 유사한 중규모 농업용저수지의 수질개선 기법으로 널리 활용할 가치가 있음으로 사료된다.

Comparison of Pollutants Removal between the Intermittently Aerated Bioreactor(IABR) and Intermittently Aerated Membrane Bioreactor(IAMBR) (간헐포기공정과 막결합 간헐포기공정의 오염물질 제거특성 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was the comparison of pollutants removal and the track study of the nitrogen and phosphorus, the estimation of the nitrification and denitrification rate, and the investigation of the nitrogen mass balance between intermittently aerated membrane bioreactor(IAMBR) and intermittently aerated bioreactor(IABR), thus it verified the validity of the membrane submergence. As a result, it had no difference of organic matter removal, however, IAMBR showed better efficiency than IABR in the nutrients. Also, $NO_3{^-}$-N concentration at the anoxic state in the reactor was lower in IAMBR, and the denitrified nitrogen of IAMBR was 40.9%, that of IABR was 10.7%, thus it found out that the denitrification capability of IAMBR was higher than IABR above fourfold. Therefore, it seems resonable to conclude that the membrane helps to improve the removal of pollutants, because of the high MLSS concentration and the available method of intermittent inflow/outflow.

The Effect of Plant Coverage on the Constructed Wetlands Performance and Development and Management of Macrophyte Communities (식생피도가 인공습지의 질소 및 인 처리효율에 미치는 영향과 습지식물의 조성 및 관리)

  • The field scale experiment was performed to examine the effect of plant coverage on the constructed wetland performance and recommend the optimum development and management of macrophyte communities. Four sets (each set of 0.88 ha) of wetland (0.8 ha) and pond (0.08 ha) systems were used. Water flowing into the Seokmoon estuarine reservoir from the Dangjin stream was pumped into wetland system. Water depth was maintained at 0.3 ${\sim}$ 0.5 m and hydraulic retention time was managed to about 2 ${\sim}$ 5 days; emergent plants were allowed to grow in the wetlands. After three growing seasons of the construction of wetlands, plant coverage was about 90%, even with no plantation, from bare soil surfaces at the initial stage. During the start up period of constructed wetlands, lower water levels should be maintained to avoid flooding newly plants, if wetland plants are to be started from germinating seeds. Effluent T-N concentration in low plant coverage wetland was higher in winter than high plant coverage wetland, whereas no T-P effluent concentration and removal efficiency difference was observed within 15% plant coverage. Dead vegetation affected nitrogen removal during winter because it is a source of organic carbon which is an essential parameter in denitrification. Biomass harvesting is not a realistic management option for most constructed wetland systems because it could only slightly increase the removal rate and provide a minor nitrogen removal pathway due to lack of organic carbon.

Column Test for Evaluation on Removal Efficiency of Heavy Metal and Nutrients by Double Layered Permeable Reactive Barrier (주상실험을 통한 연속식 반응벽체에서의 복합오염물질 제거능 평가)

  • The double sheeted permeable reactive barrier containing two different reactive materials can be applied to remediate the groundwater contaminated by nutrients and heavy metals. In this study, in order to evaluate the removal efficiency of contaminants including ammonium, cadmium and phosphate by double layered permeable reactive barrier containing zeolite and steelmaking slag, column tests were performed. In addition, nonequilibrium reaction in column tests was analyzed by two-site nonequilibrium advection-dispersion model. Column test results showed that zeolite is effective for removal of ammonium, while steelmaking slag is effective for removal of phosphate and cadmium. The sequential reaction of zeolite and steelmaking slag gave the better removal efficiency for ammonium.

ECO(Electro-Coagulation & Oxidation) 공법에서 전극 및 전류밀도에 따른 축산폐수 처리특성 변화

  • 본 연구에서는 전극의 특성에 따른 돈사유래 축산폐수의 ECO 공법에 의한 처리특성을 평가하기 위해 ECO 시스템 모듈내 Fe-Fe 및 Al-Al 계열의 용해성 전극과 Al-SUS, Ir-SUS 등 불용성 전극을 대상으로 5$\sim$20mA/cm$^2$의 전류밀도하에서 축산폐수내 유기물 및 영양염류의 제거특성을 평가하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 1. 전기응집산화에 의한 축산폐수의 처리시 수중 유기물질 및 영양염류의 제거효율은 전류밀도의 증가에 비례하여 증가한다. 2. 불용성 전극조합 및 불용성-용해성 전극조합은 전류밀도가 높을수록 수중 유기물 및 오염물질 제거효율이 안정되고, 용해성 전극은 15mA/cm$^2$ 이하의 저 전류밀도의 조건하에서 전류밀도의 증가에 따라 안정된 제거효율 향상을 기대할 수 있다. 3. 불용성전극 조합인 Ir-SUS 전극조합을 사용하여 축산폐수를 처리할 경우 COD$_{Mn}$ 제거효율을 약 10% 향상시킬 수 있으며, TN 20mA/cm$^2$에서 Al-Al 전극조합과 TP 15mA/cm$^2$ 이하에서 Fe-Fe 전극조합은 제거효율이 저하되는 경향이 나타난다.
