Medical Image Classification and Retrieval Using BoF Feature Histogram with Random Forest Classifier (Random Forest 분류기와 Bag-of-Feature 특징 히스토그램을 이용한 의료영상 자동 분류 및 검색)

  • This paper presents novel OCS-LBP (Oriented Center Symmetric Local Binary Patterns) based on orientation of pixel gradient and image retrieval system based on BoF (Bag-of-Feature) and random forest classifier. Feature vectors extracted from training data are clustered into code book and each feature is transformed new BoF feature using code book. BoF features are applied to random forest for training and random forest having N classes is constructed by combining several decision trees. For testing, the same OCS-LBP feature is extracted from a query image and BoF is applied to trained random forest classifier. In contrast to conventional retrieval system, query image selects similar K-nearest neighbor (K-NN) classes after random forest is performed. Then, Top K similar images are retrieved from database images that are only labeled K-NN classes. Compared with other retrieval algorithms, the proposed method shows both fast processing time and improved retrieval performance.

  • With ever more popularity of video web-publishing, popular content is being compressed, reformatted and modified, resulting in excessive content duplication. Such overlapped data can cause problem of search speed and rate of searching. However, duplicated data on other site can provide alternatives while specific site cause problem. This paper proposes the efficient method, for retrieving. similar video data in large database. In this research we have used the method to compare summarized video image instead of the raw video data, and detected similar videos through clustering in that dimension feature vector through PCA(principle component analysis). We show that our proposed method is efficient and accurate through our experiment.

  • This paper proposes a new gray-level image segmentation method using GA(genetic algorithm) and an ACA(adaptive clustering algorithm). The solution in the general GA can be moving because of stochastic reinsertion, and suffer from the premature convergence problem owing to deficiency of individuals before finding the optimal solution. To cope with these problems and to reduce processing time, we propose the new GBR algorithm and the technique that resolves the premature convergence problem. GBR selects the individual in the child pool that has the fitness value superior to that of the individual in the parents pool. We resolvethe premature convergence problem with producing the mutation in the parents population, and propose the new method that removes the small regions in the segmented results. The experimental results show that the proposed segmentation algorithm gives better perfodrmance than the ACA ones in Gaussian noise environments.

A Study to Improve the Accuracy of Segmentation and Classification of Mosaic Images over the Korean Peninsula (한반도 모자이크 영상의 분할 및 분류 정확도 향상을 위한 연구)

  • In recent years, as the demand of high-resolution satellite images increases due to the miniaturization and constellation of satellites, various efforts to support users to utilize satellite images more conveniently are performed. Accordingly, the Korea Aerospace Research Institute produces and provides mosaic images on the Korean Peninsula every year to improve the convenience of users in the public sector and activate the use of satellite images. In order to increase the utilization of mosaic images on the Korean Peninsula, a study on satellite image segmentation and classification using mosaic images was attempted. However, since mosaic images provide only R, G, and B bands and processes such as image sharpening and color balancing are applied, there is a limitation that the spectral information of original images is distorted, so various indices were extracted and classified using R, G, and B bands to compensate for this. As a result of the study, the accuracy of image classification results using only mosaic images was about 72%, while the accuracy of image classification results using indices extracted from R, G, and B bands together was about 79%. Through this, it was confirmed that when performing image classification using mosaic images on the Korean Peninsula, the image classification results can be improved if the indices extracted from R, G, and B bands are used together. These research results are expected to be applied not only to mosaic images but also to images in which spectral information is limited or only R, G, and B bands are provided.

Word Image Decomposition from Image Regions in Document Images using Statistical Analyses (문서 영상의 그림 영역에서 통계적 분석을 이용한 단어 영상 추출)

  • This paper describes the development and implementation of a algorithm to decompose word images from image regions mixed text/graphics in document images using statistical analyses. To decompose word images from image regions, the character components need to be separated from graphic components. For this process, we propose a method to separate them with an analysis of box-plot using a statistics of structural components. An accuracy of this method is not sensitive to the changes of images because the criterion of separation is defined by the statistics of components. And then the character regions are determined by analyzing a local crowdedness of the separated character components. finally, we devide the character regions into text lines and word images using projection profile analysis, gap clustering, special symbol detection, etc. The proposed system could reduce the influence resulted from the changes of images because it uses the criterion based on the statistics of image regions. Also, we made an experiment with the proposed method in document image processing system for keyword spotting and showed the necessity of studying for the proposed method.

Facial expression recognition based on pleasure and arousal dimensions (쾌 및 각성차원 기반 얼굴 표정인식)

  • This paper presents a new system for facial expression recognition based in dimension model of internal states. The information of facial expression are extracted to the three steps. In the first step, Gabor wavelet representation extracts the edges of face components. In the second step, sparse features of facial expressions are extracted using fuzzy C-means(FCM) clustering algorithm on neutral faces, and in the third step, are extracted using the Dynamic Model(DM) on the expression images. Finally, we show the recognition of facial expression based on the dimension model of internal states using a multi-layer perceptron. The two dimensional structure of emotion shows that it is possible to recognize not only facial expressions related to basic emotions but also expressions of various emotion.

Detection of Direction Indicators on Road Surfaces Using Inverse Perspective Mapping and NN (원근투영법과 신경망을 이용한 도로노면 방향지시기호 검출 연구)

  • This paper proposes a method for detecting the direction indicator shown in the road surface efficiently from the black box system installed on the vehicle. In the proposed method, the direction indicators are detected by inverse perspective mapping(IPM) and bag of visual features(BOF)-based NN classifier. In order to apply the proposed method to real-time environments, the candidated regions of direction indicator in an image only performs IPM, and BOF-based NN is used for the classification of feature information from direction indicators. The results of applying the proposed method to the road surface direction indicators detection and recognition, the detection accuracy was presented at least about 89%, and the method presents a relatively high detection rate in the various road conditions. Thus it can be seen that the proposed method is applied to safe driving support systems available.

An Effective Steel Plate Detection Using Eigenvalue Analysis (고유값 분석을 이용한 효과적인 후판 인식)

  • In this paper, a simple and robust algorithm is proposed for detecting each steel plate from a image which contains several steel plates. Steel plate is characterized by line edge, so line detection is a fundamental task for analyzing and understanding of steel plate images. To detect the line edge, the proposed algorithm uses the small eigenvalue analysis. The proposed approach scans an input edge image from the top left corner to the bottom right corner with a moving mask. A covariance matrix of a set of edge pixels over a connected region within the mask is determined and then the statistical and geometrical properties of the small eigenvalue of the matrix are explored for the purpose of straight line detection. Using the detected line edges, each plate is determined based on the directional information and the distance information of the line edges. The results of the experiments emphasize that the proposed algorithm detects each steel plate from a image effectively.

Comparison of Match Candidate Pair Constitution Methods for UAV Images Without Orientation Parameters (표정요소 없는 다중 UAV영상의 대응점 추출 후보군 구성방법 비교)

  • Growth of UAV technology leads to expansion of UAV image applications. Many UAV image-based applications use a method called incremental bundle adjustment. However, incremental bundle adjustment produces large computation overhead because it attempts feature matching from all image pairs. For efficient feature matching process we have to confine matching only for overlapping pairs using exterior orientation parameters. When exterior orientation parameters are not available, we cannot determine overlapping pairs. We need another methods for feature matching candidate constitution. In this paper we compare matching candidate constitution methods without exterior orientation parameters, including partial feature matching, Bag-of-keypoints, image intensity method. We use the overlapping pair determination method based on exterior orientation parameter as reference. Experiment results showed the partial feature matching method in the one with best efficiency.

Fast VQ Codebook Design by Sucessively Bisectioning of Principle Axis (주축의 연속적 분할을 통한 고속 벡터 양자화 코드북 설계)

  • This paper proposes a new codebook generation method, called a PCA-Based VQ, that incorporates the PCA (Principal Component Analysis) technique into VQ (Vector Quantization) codebook design. The PCA technique reduces the data dimensions by transforming input image vectors into the feature vectors. The cluster of feature vectors in the transformed domain is bisectioned into two subclusters by an optimally chosen partitioning hyperplane. We expedite the searching of the optimal partitioning hyperplane that is the most time consuming process by considering that (1) the optimal partitioning hyperplane is perpendicular to the first principal axis of the feature vectors, (2) it is located on the equilibrium point of the left and right cluster's distortions, and (3) the left and right cluster's distortions can be adjusted incrementally. This principal axis bisectioning is successively performed on the cluster whose difference of distortion between before and after bisection is the maximum among the existing clusters until the total distortion of clusters becomes as small as the desired level. Simulation results show that the proposed PCA-based VQ method is promising because its reconstruction performance is as good as that of the SOFM (Self-Organizing Feature Maps) method and its codebook generation is as fast as that of the K-means method.
