This study was performed to provide basic information for evaluating the efficiency and applicable extent of photocatalysis and ozonation for the treatment of dye wastewater. The treatability of dye wastewater by $UV/TiO_2$ and $UV/TiO_2/O_3$ advanced oxidation process (AOP) was investigated under various conditions. The experiments were conducted in a batch reactor of 50 liters equipped with twelve UV Lamps of 16W. In $UV/TiO_2$ AOP, the removal efficiency of TCODMn and Color increased to 58% and 67% respectively with increasing UV intensity. Also, The removal efficiency of TCODMn and Color increased to 97% and 99% respectively with increasing $H_2O_2$. Acid area was more efficient than neutral and alkalic areas in wastewater treatment, and pH 5 was the most effective and the treatment efficiency continually increased as the amount of photocatalyst was increased. When the photocatalyst was increased, TCODMn was removed faster than Color.

This study provides the optimal conditions treating with the coagulation process and the other chemical treatment processes for dyeing wastewater, especially various dyeing complex wastewater. The results are shown as follows: 1. Optimum reaction condition of pH for ferrous sulfate was the range of 9 to 12. And when 3,000ppm(mg/l) of ferrous sulfate was dosed, the maximum $COD_{Mn}$ removal rate was approximately 40%. 2. In case of ferrous chloride and Bittern as coagulants, optimum pH range was 10 to 11. And maximum $COD_{Mn}$ removal rate was approximately 46% to 50% for dose of 2,000ppm(mg/l) to 6,000 ppm. 3. It is confirmed that the activated sludge process following coagulation precipitation method provides better treatment efficiency than the coagulation precipitation method following the activated sludge process. 4. The purpose of this study was to produce CGF (Cyanoguanidineformaldehyde resin) by organic compounds. 5. The complex coagulation agent by this study is the most economical coagulant with Alum(aluminum sulfate) and the removal efficiency is approximately 54% with 1,000ppm(mg/l) of pH range 6 to 7.
A reactive dye-degrading bacterium was isolated from textile waste water and it was identified as Stenotrophomonas maltophilia based on its biochemical characteristics. The effects of additional carbon and nitrogen sources were investigated for the development of an optimal medium for biodegradation of Remazol Black B by 5. maltophilia. The optimal pH and temperature were determined to be 6.5 and 3$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. Remazol Black B with the initial concentration of 50 ppm could be degraded up to 86% within 28 h.

In this wort plasma treatment was evaluated as an alternative clean desizing technology. Size materials such as PVA(polyvinyl alcohol), PACL(polyacrylic acid esters) and their mixture on PET(polyethylene terephthalate) fabrics were treated by $N_2$ and $O_2$ plasma. $O_2$ plasma was more efficient in size removal than $N_2$ plasma, and the removal of PVA was higher than that of PACL. SEM(scanning emission microscopy) pictures of the plasma treated samples directly proved the disappearance of sizing agents. After $O_2$ plasma treatment, the PET fabrics were subjected to conventional desizing process. Compared with untreated fabrics, the desizing effluent from the treated fabrics gave lower TOC, COD and $BOD_5$ values. This indicates plasma treatment not only serves to directly remove sizing agents but also offered several advantages by changing the chemical properties of sizing agents. Lastly, the effect of plasma desizing process on dyeing was examined using color difference and dyeing fastness tests. The CCM(computer color matching) results showed rotor difference between PET fabric desized by $O_2$ plasma treatment for 20 min and reference PET fabric desized by the conventional wet desizing process was around 1. This suggests the treated PET fabric can be directly subjected to dyeing process without any additional process. The plasma treated fabric also gave a good result of dyeing fastness so that grades of laundering, crocking, heat and light fastness were same or even better than the reference PET fabric did.

A new method, ToxTemp (TOXcity test based on TEMPerature control) using Ceridaphnia dubia was applied to evaluate the toxicity of insecticide materials and compared with the standard 48 hr acute bioassay. BPMC, diazinon and fenitrothion may cause the inhibition to the biological process in sewage treatment plant and need to detect toxicity within short contact time. The ToxTemp method showed sensitive detection with more shorter contact of 1-1.5 hr time than that of the standard 48 hr acute bioassay. To evaluate toxicity of real wastewater/sewage, the inhibition rate of nitrification and oxygen uptake rate (OUR) using activated sludge, the standard 48hr acute bioassay and ToxTemp method using C. dubia were compared, respectively. On the basis of the inhibition rate of nitrification, the OUR test showed the less sensitive results at the relatively strong toxic sewage. On the other hands, the standard 48hr acute bioassay and ToxTemp method using C. dubia represented the toxicity of each wastewater/sewage with high sensitivity. Even the slightly low (about 1.5%) sensitivity, the ToxTemp method showed the high applicability to the real site of sewage treatment plant.
This study was conducted to remove the dyes in dye wastewater by the chemical precipitation or biological treatment which are one of the main pollutants in dye wastewater. In order to remove the disperse dyes effectively in aqueous solution by chemical precipitation process, coagulation and flocculation tests were carried out using several coagulants on various reaction conditions. It was found that the Ferrous sulfate was the most effective coagulant for the removal of disperse dye(DB79), and we could get the best result for the removal of disperse dye(DB56) in the aspects of TOC removal efficiency and sludge yield. When the Ferrous sulfate dosage was 800mg/l, the sludge settling velocity was very fast$(SV_{30}=4\%)$, and the color was effectively removed in the disperse dye(DB79) solution. Although the color removal was ineffective when the Alum was used as a coagulant, the sludge yield decreased in comparison with the Ferrous sulfate or the Ferric sulfate being used in the disperse dye(DB56) solution. In order to decolorize disperse dye(DR17) by using biological treatment process, a strain which has potential ability to degrade disperse dyes was isolated from natural system. The optimal culture conditions of temperature and pH were found to be $40^{\circ}C\;and\;8.5\~9$, respectively. When yeast extract was mixed with polypeptone at the mixing ratio of 1:1 as a nitrogen source, decolorization efficiency was highest$(93\%)$ among the nitrogen sources. The strain screened was excellent to adjust to pH, and it seems to have ability to control pH needed to growth. The optimal culture conditions in concentration of $MgSO_{4.}\cdot7H_2O\;and\;KH_2PO_4$ were $0.1\%(w/v)\;and\;0.2\%(w/v)$, respectively. Strains degrading and decolorizing reactive dyes, RB198 and RR141 which were isolated from water system, are named RBK1 and RRK. And the cell growth characteristics of RBK1 and RRK were investigated. The optimal culture conditions of temperature and pH were found to be 30t' and 7.0, respectively. Optimum nitrogen source was peptone, and it was found that decolorization efficiencies by strains RBK1 and RRK, were $85\%\;and\;62\%$, respectively, with introduction of 4,000mg/l of peptone. In the case of RBK1, color removal efficiencies were very high below 400mg/l. Decolorization efficiency was over $90\%$ at 20hours of culture time. The Color degradation ability of RRK was lower than that of RBK1.

The current processer of the textile wastewater treatment are mostly consisted of a combination of a physico-chemical and a biological treatment. The overall efficiency of these processes is, however, assessed to be fairly low. It is even worse during the summer season when temperature of the wastewater rises above 40$\circ $C. Therefore, a feasible process of the textile wastewater treatment which can work efficiently at higher temperatures was investigated in this work. We used a bench scale reactor consisted of one 4 liter anaerobic and one 8 liter aerobic tank, and the thermophilic symbiotic PVA degraders, Pasteruella hemolytica KMG1 and Pseudomonas sp. KMG6 that had been isolated in our laboratory. In the preliminary flask experiments, we observed that the thermophilic symbiotic PVA degraders could not grow in the wastewater substrate. Then, we isolated the mutant strains by acclimating the KMG1and KMG6 strains to the wastewater medium. The mutant symbionts (KMG1-1 and KMG6-1) were isolated through 6 times successive transfers into the fresh wastewater medium after 5 days culture for each. The mutant strains obtained grew well in the mixed medium composed of 75% wastewater and 25% synthetic medium, and supplemented with 0.5% PVA as a sole carbon source. During the culture for 14 days at pH 7.0 and 40$\CIRC $C, the bacteria assimilated about 89% of the added PVA. The symbionts degraded equally well all the PVA substrates of different molecular weight (nd=500~30000). In contrast to the flask experiments, in the reactor system the mutant strains showed very low levels of the PVA and COD removal rates. However, the new reactor system with an additional aerobic tank attained 82% removal rate of COD, 94% of PVA degradation and 71% of color index under the conditions of 5% inoculm on the tank 2, incubation temperature of 40$\circ $C, dissolved oxygen level of 2~3 mg/l and retention time of 30 hours. This result ensures that the process described above could be an efficient and feasible treatment for the PVA contained textile wastewater at higher temperatures.
Objectives: This study evaluated the odor emission characteristics from a wastewater treatment plant in an industrial complex area in Daegu City. Methods: Odor samples were collected from March 2016 to December 2016 and were analyzed for specified offensive odor substances. The odor quotient and the odor contribution was calculated. Results: Ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, acetaldehyde, and toluene were detected in all samples for monitoring specified odor compounds. The result of contribution analysis is that hydrogen sulfide had the highest contribution in all processes, followed by acetaldehyde. Conclusion: The major components of odor can be determined by evaluating the degree of contribution to the odor intensity and the concentration of the individual odor component. To increase the effectiveness of odor reduction, rather than addressing high-concentration odor compounds, policies focused on materials with a high odor contribution are necessary.
A Klebsiella pneumoniae WL-5 with the capability of decolorizing several recalcitrant dyes was isolated from activated sludge of an effluent treatment plant of a textile and dyeing industry. This strain showed a higher dye decolorization under static condition and color removal was optimal at pH 6-8 and $30-35^{\circ}C$. More than 90% of its color of Congo Red were reduced within 12 hr at $200\;{\mu}M$ dye concentration. Malachite Green, Brilliant Green and Reactive Black-5 lost over 85% of their colors at $10\;{\mu}M$ dye concentration, but the percentage decolorization of Reactive Red-120, Reactive Orange-16, and Crystal Violet were about 46%, 25%, and 13%, respectively. Decolorizations of Congo Red and triphenylmethane dyes, such as Malachite Green, Brilliant Green, and Crystal Violet were mainly due to adsorption to cells, whereas azo dyes, such as Reactive Black-5, Reactive Red-120, and Reactive Orange-16 seemed to be removed by biodegradation through unknown enzymatic processes.

This study was conducted to understand characteristics of wastewater which is discharged from small-scale dyehouse located in Seoul downtown area and to Find the appliable treatment method on the spot. The results of this study were summarized as followings. 1. The method which is used at present is mostly flocculation by coagulant or fenton oxidation. But the treatment efficiency of them are not good. 2. The results of fenton oxidation experiment demonstrated that treatment efficiency of COD was limited, which showed the need of the additional process or the improvement of existing treatment method, while the color was reduced considerably in optimal condition. 3. The optimal condition of fenton oxidation are as followings. -Feasible pH was in the 3∼4 regardless of the kinds of iron ions, But the fluctuation of treatment efficiency with the change of pH was small - The mass ratio of H$_2$O/CODcr was used to evaluate the parameter of H$_2$O$_2$ The optimal range of this was in 0.7∼1,3 and it was observed that the ratio got higher as the quality got worse. -For iron ion, FeCl$_2$4H$_2$O turned out to be more effective for removal of color compared with was compared FeSO$_4$7H$_2$Oin. the mass ratio of Fe/H$_2$O$_2$ of 2.3∼2.8 for of FeSO$_4$7H$_2$O and 1.6∼1.8 for FeCl$_2$4H$_2$O resulted in good treatment efficiencies. 4. With adsorption process applied before fenton oxidation in order to treat the high concentration wastewater, the treatment efficiency increased by 61% in CODcr, 55% in color. and if the power activated carbon is injected in more than 2500mg/$\ell$, the wastewater can be treated within the effluent quality criteria.
