An experimental study was carried out to investigate the effect of film cooling in the thrust chamber of liquid rocket using LOx and Kerosene as propellant. The heat fluxes were obtained from the measured wall temperature to the axial direction of thrust chamber for different type of coolant, the various O/F ratio, mass flow rate and the location of the film cooling injector. A thin wall combustion chamber and nozzle were used to obtain the heat flux.

In the gasoline engine industry. there has been a trend towards the development of high performance engines with improved fuel efficiency, reduced weight and smaller sizes. These trends help to solved engine problems related to thermal load and abnormal combustion. In order to investigate these Problems, a thin film-type probe for instantaneously measuring temperatures has been suggested. A method for manufacturing such a probe was established in this study. The instantaneous surface temperature of a constant volume combustion chamber was measured by this probe and the heat flux was obtained through Fourier analysis. A peak instantaneous temperature was obtained after 55∼60 ms from ignition and the temperature increased according to an equivalence ratio and varied differently according to the position of the probe. Total heat loss during combustion period was affected by the equivalence ratio and differed widely in accordance to the position of the probe.

This study deals with the use of the conjugate gradient method for the simultaneous estimation of two unknown boundary heat fluxes on the slab in reheating furnace. Temperature measurements by the experiment are used in the inverse analysis. The heat flux estimations for three different cases of measurement locations in the slab are performed: non-skid, skid, and shift-skid zones. The estimated heat fluxes for three cases indicated the three regions having local peak values of heat fluxes. The estimated temperatures at measurement locations were in good agreements with the measured temperatures within 5% relative error.

An experimental study was made to elucidate critical heat flux(CHF) characteristics in a two-phase concentric-tube thermosyphon. The experiment was performed by using saturated water, over the experimental range of configuration: inner diameter of heated outer tube D=12mm, outer diameter of unheated inner tube do=3 to 10mm and heated tube length L=100 to 1000mm. The experiment shows that the CHF is enhanced with increase in the inner tube diameter, and that the CHF decreases beyond a certain diameter of the inner tube. There is an optimum diameter for inner tube that maximizes the CHF, for each tube length and test liquid. The CHF maximum is about two to eight times as large as that without an inner tube. For a large inner tube, the CHF characteristics is similar to that for natural convective boiling in a vertical annular tube.

Natural convection from a slightly inclined circular cylinders immersed in quiescent cold pure water was studied experimentally. The experiment was carried out for circular cylinders with uniform heat flux ranging from $100W/m^{2} to 800 W/m^{2}$ and inclined angle ranging from horizontal $({\phi}=0^{\circ}) to 15^{\circ}$. The flow fields around cylinder were visualized and heat transfer characteristics investigated by measuring the surface temperatures for each case. As the results, it is shown that flow patterns are changed consecutively through the sequence of steady state downflow, unsteady state flow and steady state upflow with increasing heat flux. At the same inclined angle, as heat flux increases, the average Nusselt number decreases and then increases. At the same heat flux, as inclined angle increases, the average Nusselt number decreases.
Augmentation of CHF by ultrasonic is experimentally studied under subcooling pool boiling condition. Experiment is carried out for downward-facing plate with and without the ultrasonic. The working fluid is distilled water. Experimental apparatus is composed of a bath, power supply, test section, ultrasonic generator, DAQ system. Experiment is performed with the subcooling temperature of $5^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$, $40^{\circ}C$ and the inclined angle of $0^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, 90. From the experimental results, it is found that ultrasonic effect enhances CHF of the downward-facing plate. As increasing the degree of subcooling, the rate of CHF increase is enhanced. As increasing the inclined angle, the rate of CHF increase decreases. Also, we can see that the heat transfer mechanism of CHF augmentation is closely connected with the dynamic behavior of bubble generation and departure.
Water heat transfer experiments were carried out in a uniformly heated annulus with a wide range of pressure conditions. The local heat transfer coefficients for saturated water flow boiling have been measured just before the occurrence of the critical heat flux (CHF) along the length of the heated section. The trends of the measured heat transfer coefficients were quite different from the conventional understanding for the heat transfer of saturated flow boiling. This discrepancy was explained from the nucleate boiling in the liquid film of annular flow under high heat flux conditions.

In order to design and develop a spark ignition engine, many studies must be preceded about the characteristics of thermal flow. For measurement of transient wall temperature thin film thermocouples of Bendersky type were manufactured and these probes were fixed into the wall of combustion chamber. Surface wall temperatures were measured in experiments of various engine speeds. Transient heat fluxes were calculated from the wall temperature measurements. Pressure was measured from combustion chamber using pressure transducer and gas temperatures were calculated using the state equation of ideal gas. And instantaneous heat transfer coefficients were obtained. It will be the basic data for the formulae of instantaneous heat transfer coefficients.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate a critical heat flux(CHF) during forced convective subcooled and saturated boiling in free water jet system impinged on a rectangular heated surface. The surface is supplied with subcooled or saturated water through a rectangular jet. Experimental parameters studied are a width of heated surface, a height of supplementary water and a degree of subcooling. Incipient boiling point is observed in the temperature of 6${\~}8^{\circ}C$ of superheat of test specimen. CHF depends on jet velocity for various boiling-involved coolant system. CHF also is proportional to the nozzle exit velocity to the power of n, where n is 0.55 and 0.8 for subcooled and saturated boiling, respectively. CHF is enhanced with a higher jet velocity, higher degree of subcooling and smaller width of a heated surface.

A cooling performance analysis has been made in the 8-channel calorimeter based on sub-scale KSR-III engine. Three-dimensional heat transfer analysis in cooling channels has been performed using the heat flux distribution through the chamber wall predicted from axi-symmetric compressible flow inside the combustion chamber. The heat flux distribution was verified against the published literature. Presented for the development and operation of the calorimeter are the coolant pressure drop, coolant temperature rise and the maximum chamber wall temperature.
