Comparative Anatomy of the Hydrothermal Alteration of Chonnam and Kyongsang Hydrothermal Clay Alteration Areas in Korea (전남 및 경상 열수변질 점토광상의 생성환경 비교)

  • Chonnam and Kyongsang clay alteration areas are distributed in volcanic fields of the Yuchon Group in late Cretaceous period. The host rock of the Chonnam alteration area is generally acidic and that of the Kyongsang alteration area is acidic to dominantly intermediate volcanics. The important difference of two alteration areas is source of fluid; the Chonnam alteration area is characterized by dominantly meteoric water and the Kyongsang alteration area is characterized by dominantly magmatic water. Accordingly, the high temperature minerals such as pyrophyllite and andalusite, and boron bearing minerals such as dumortierite and tourmaline are common in the Kyongsang alteration area. In contrast to this, the lower temperature minerals such as kaolin and alunite are common in the Chonnam alteration area. The mineralogical difference of two alteration areas were depended on the difference of the formation temperature of clay deposits. The other important geochemical difference is the chemistry of hydrothermal solution such as pH. The alteration of "acid-sulfate type" with alteration mineral assemblage of alunite-kaolin-quartz is dominant in the Chonnam alteration area, which was caused by the attack of strong acid and acid solution. In contrast to this, the that of "quartz-sericite type" with the mineral assemblage of sericite-quartz is dominant in the Kyongsang alteration area, which was caused by the attack of neutral or weak acid solution. Also, the Kyongsang and Chonnam alteration areas show the difference in structural setting; the Chonnam alteration area is commonly associated with silicic domes and the Kyongsang alteration area is commonly associated with calderas.

Occurrence of Gold Deposits of the Tumbang Lapan Area of the Middle Kalimantan, Indonesia (인도네시아 중부 칼리만탄 뚬방라판 지역 금광상의 산상)

  • The geology of the Tumbang Lapan area consists of Permian to Carboniferous metamorphic rocks, Cretaceous granitic rocks, and Permian to Tertiary sedimentary and volcanic rocks. Three faults are developed in surveyed area, and are functioned as channels of the hydrothermal solution which farmed quartz veins within tuff3. In the mineralized area, argillic and propylitic alterations are dominant. Argillic altered rocks show the alteration mineral assemblages of kaolinte+sericite+quartz+chlorite+pyrite. Mineral association in propylitic alteration is chlorite+epidote+feldspar+quartz+pyrite+ magnetite. Vein type, fracture filling, stockwork are observed in survey area. As a result of analysis of samples from quartz veins and altered rocks, some mineralized rocks showed $0.01\~4.6g/t$ of gold.

  • Gold mineralization of Samjeong and Yongjang gold mines in Uichang area shows characteristics of Bonanza-type gold deposits. Ores are mainly developed along the contact parts between quartz vein and arkosic sandstone beds(Fe-rich bed) in sedimentary rock. Electrum, silver sulfide and sulfate minerals are mainly in the ores. On the other hand, gold mineralization is less developed in cherty rock and andesitic rock than arkosic sandstone. The study highlights characteristics of gold precipitation in the deposit on the basis of numerical modelling of the reactions between the assumed hydrothermal ore fluids with multicomponent heterogeneous equilibrium calculations. Aqueous species, gases and minerals, containing electrum are included in the calculations. The reaction result between hydrothermal ore fluids and arkosic sandstone show that pH increasing in the ore-forming fluid would trigger precipitation of quartz, chlorite, sericite, chalcopyrite, galena, pyrite, electrum, actinolite and feldspar. The numerical modelling also illustrates the drastic increase of pH and desulfidation lead to precipitation of electrum. Ag/Au ratios in the ore vary with pH conditions and subsequently precipitation of silver-bearing sulfides such as acanthite and polybasite. The modelling of the reaction between andesitic rock and ore-forming fluid shows that mineral assemblages of the case are analogous to ones of the reaction between arkosic sandstone and fluid except the latter has little portion of electrum. The abovementioned modelling results suggest that gold-silver mineralization is bounded by host rocks at the study area.

Chalcopyrite Disease in Sphalerite: A Case of the Soowang Ore Deposits in Muju, Republic of Korea (무주 수왕광산에서 산출되는 섬아연석의 황동석 병변에 관한 연구)

  • The Soowang deposits occur in the quartz veins that were filled fissures in the middle Cretaceous porphyritic granite and/or the Precambrian Sobaegsan gneiss complex. Paragenetic studies suggest that the vein filling can be divided into four identifiable stages. Sphalerites were deposited by the cooling fluids at stages I, II, and III. The results of microscopic observation and EPMA analysis suggest that the chalcopyrite dots and disease in sphalerite are replacement products by later hydrothermal solution at the early stage III. The inferred processes of chalcopyrite disease are as follows: (1) Fe enrichment to the margins and along the cracks of the Fe-poor sphalerite by Fe-rich solution, (2) Formation of chalcopyrite dots in the Fe-enriched sphalerite formed at the stage II, and Fe reduction of sphalerite near the chalcopyrite dots by Cu-bearing solution, (3) Formation of "chalcopyrite disease" penetrating the compositional zoning of sphalerite at the early stage III.

Rheological Properties of Gastrodiae Rhizoma Concentrates by Extraction Solvents (추출용매에 따른 천마 농축액의 리올로지 특성)

  • 천마식품가공시 기초자료로 활용될 수 있는 천마 추출농축액의 리올로지 특성을 조사하였다. 천마의 열수 및 50% 에탄올 추출물운 각각 5, 10, 15, 및 20 Brix와 10, 20, 30, 40 및 50 Brix로 농축하여 제조하였다. 열수 및 50% 에탄올 농축액의 정상유동특성과 동적점탄성을 조사하였다. Power law model로 구한 n에 의하면 모든 열수 농축액들은 전형적인 의가소성$(n=0.484{\sim}0.802)$유체의 흐름특성을 보였고, 50% 에탄올 농축액들은 뉴튼유체$(n=0.875{\sim}1.078)$에 가까운 흐름특성을 나타내었다. 열수 및 50% 에탄올 농축액의 ${\eta}_{app}$는 온도가 증가함에 따라 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. Herschel-Bulkley model에 의한 열수 및 50% 에탄올 농축액의 C는 각각 $0.030{\sim}1.255$ Pa와 $0.007{\sim}0.065$ Pa이었다. ${\eta}_{app}$에 대한 온도 및 농도의 영향은 arrhenius식으로 해석하였다. 열수 및 50% 에탄올 농축액의 $E_a$는 농도가 증가함에 따라 각각 $3.340{\sim}4.620{\times}10^3\;J/mol{\cdot}kg$$1.6289{\sim}18.6699{\times}10^3\;J/mol{\cdot}kg$의 범위로 나타났다. 진동수(angular frequency, ${\omega}$)가 증가할수록 저장탄성률(storage modulus, G#)과 손실탄성률(loss modulus, G@)은 일반적으로 증가하는 경향을 나타냈다. 50% 에탄올 농축액의 경우 모든 진동수에서 G#이 G@보다 높게 나타나 전형적인 저분자용액의 흐름특성을 보였다. 그러나 열수농축액의 경우 G@이 G#보다 높았고 0.5 rad/sec에서 교차점을 형성하였으며 전형적인 고분자 용액의 흐름특성을 나타내었다.

  • The extraction and separation methods of protein-bound polysaccharides from the mycelium and culture broth of L. edodes were investigated. The use 2% solution of surface active agent, Triton X-100 was effective for extraction of the protein-bound polysaccharide from the mycelium. The extraction of the protein-bound polysaccharides from mycelium with hot water was achieved by 4 hours extraction at 10$0^{\circ}C$. For the separation and partial purification of the protein bound polysaccharides the column chromatography using DEAE-Cellulose, DEAE-Sephadex and Sephadex proved to be effective.

Phase equilibria between coexisting minerals in the talc ores and process of talc formation in the Daeheung Talc Deposits, Korea (대흥활석광상에 있어서 공존하는 광물의 상평형과 활석화 과정)

  • The talc ore deposits can be divided into chloritic and dolomitic ores according to mineral assemblages. The former is mainly composed of chlorite and talc accompanied with dolomite, muscovite and opaque mineral, and the latter of dolomite and talc with serpentine, calcite and magnesite in places. Talc was originated from chlorite and serpentine. Carbonate minerals were formed either directly from the introduced hydrothermal solution or secondarily as a by-product of steatitization of chlorite and serpentine. The process of talc formation may be governed by the chemical composition of the host rocks and the amount and/or chemical composition of the hydrothermal solution which may be different in places. However, the representative reactions producing talc from chlorite and serpentine are as follows : (1) chlorite+$Mg^{++}+Si^{4+}+H_2O$=talc, (2) chlorite+$Mg^{++}+Si^{4+}+Ca^{++}+CO_2+O_2+H_2O$=talc+ dolomite+ magnesite, and (3) serpentine +$Mg^{++}+Fe^{++}+Si^{4+}+Ca^{++}+CO_2+H_2O$=talc+dolomite. The reactions indicate that the carbonate minerals can be formed when the hydrothermal solution have high $fO_2$ and $fCO_2$. The steatitization might be proceeded by the hydrothermally metasomatic reaction between chlorite schist or chlorite gneiss intercalated in the granitic gneiss and hydrothermal solution accompanied to the wet granitization.

  • In a HLW repository, the buffer is exposed to an elevated temperature due to a radioactive decay and geochemical conditions for a long time and such a hydrothermal condition may cause a significant loss of its barrier function. This study carried out hydrothermal tests with a domestic smectite clay to investigate the changes in the expandibility, layer charge, and cation exchange capacity of the smectite. When the temperature and potassium concentration in solution was increased for the hydrothermal treatments, the expandibility decreased, the layer charge negatively increased, and the CEC also decreased.

  • This study was carried out to find the optimal isolation conditions of xylan from steam-exploded materials, such as rice straw(Oryza sativa), barley straw(Hordeum vulgare) and oak wood(Quercus mongolica), In the chemical composition, we found that the contents of water-extractives and ash of rice straw and barley straw were more than those of oak wood. Rice straw, barley straw and oak wood were steam-exploded at 20kgf/$cm^2$ for 3 minutes or 6 minutes. The content of lignin in three different steam-exploded materials was higher than that of non-treated materials. The crude xylan was extracted with hot water and 0.5% KOH solution from steam-exploded materials. In the sugar type of crude xylan extracted with hot water and 0.5% KOH solution, the oligomer content of crude xylan extracted with hot water was much more than that of crude xylan extracted with 0.5% KOH solution. The crude xylan was purified with 5% barium hydroxide Solution and ethanol precipitation procedure. The content of xylose of purified xylan was over 85%, but other sugar residues(arabinose, mannose, galactose and glucose) were not removed completely.

The Immuno-Modulatory and Antitumor Effects of Crude Polysaccharides Extracted from Daedaleopsis tricolor (삼색도장버섯(Daedaleopsis tricolor)에서 추출한 조다당류의 면역 활성 및 항암 효과)

  • Neutral salt soluble [0.9% NaCl (Fr. NaCl)], hot water soluble (Fr. HW) and methanol soluble (Fr. MeOH) materials were extracted from Daedaleopsis tricolor. In vitro cytotoxicity tests, Fr. HW was not cytotoxic against cancer cell lines such as Sarcoma 180, HepG2 and HT-29 at the concentration of $0{\sim}2,000\;{\mu}g/ml$, while Fr. NaCl and Fr. MeOH were cytotoxic to the cell lines. Intraperitoneal injection with Fr. NaCl showed antitumor effect with life prolongation of 77.4% in mice inoculated with Sarcoma 180. Fr. NnCl and Fr. HW improved proliferation of spleen cells and the immunopotentiation activity of B lymphocyte by increasing spleen cells and the alkaline phosphatase activity by $1.7{\sim}2.4\;and\;2.2{\sim}8.7$ folds, respectively. Fr, NaCl generated $90\;{\mu}M$ of nitric oxide (NO) when cultured with RAW 264.7 at the concentration of $50\;{\mu}g/ml$, while lipopolysaccharide, a positive control, produced $79{\mu}M$. Intraperitoneal injection with Fr. NaCl (50 mg/kg body weight) increased the numbers of peritoneal exudate cells and circulating leukocytes by 10 folds and two folds, respectively, than in the control group. The antitumor effect of D, tricolor was likely due to immunopotentiation activity.
