  • 열간금형용강인 SKD61은 압출금형재로서 널리 사용되고 있으며, Al압출금형의 장수명화를 위한 방안으로 SKD61에 높은 경도를 갖는 TiN, CrN을 코팅하여 마모 시험을 실시하였다. 마모시험하중과 온도의 변화를 통해 각각의 코팅층의 마찰.마모 특성을 비교할 수 있었으며, 마모시험의 데이터는 직선왕복동 마모시험기를 사용하여 수집하였다.

  • It's so difficult to obtain simultaneously both product quality and improvement of the productivity of which products are in hot aluminum extrusion process. But significant improvements in productivity and extrudate quality result from die cooling system using nitrogen gas injection during aluminum hot extrusion. These benefits are due primarily to cooling effect nitrogen gas and removal of excess heat in the extrudate temperature. This investigation is carried out hot extrusion experiment, also compared cooling system with non-cooling system to inspect cooling effects on hot aluminum extrusion. The purpose of this investigation is estimated the grain growth fur the extrudate quality, and the ram speed for the improvement of the productivity.

  • The use of ceramic inserts in hot extrusion dies offers significant technical and economic advantages over other forms of manufacture. In this paper, process simulation and stress analysis are thus combined during the design, and a data exchange program has been developed that enables optimal design of the dies taking into account the elastic deflections generated in shrink fitting the die inserts and that caused by the stresses generated in the process. The shrink fit analysis has been performed that enables optimal design of the dies taking into account the elastic deflections which generated in shrink fitting the die inserts and that caused by the stresses generated in the process and by using DEFORM software for process analysis. This data can be processed as load input data for a finite element die-stress analysis. Process simulation and stress analysis are thus combined during the die design. The stress analysis of the dies is used to determine the stress conditions on the ceramic insert by considering contact and interference effects under both mechanical and thermal loads. The results are compared with the experimental ones for verification.

  • This study presents development of a automatic design software for process and die design of hot extrusion of aluminium alloys through square dies. The design of extrusion dies is still an art rather than a science with increasing complexity of shape and thinness of section. Therefore, most of the die design is still dependent on personal judgement, intuition and experience. The objective of this study is to develop a software system which includes a design rule extracted from literatures and experts in the extrusion industry. The developed system is effectively used to design extrusion processes and dies with reduced lead time and trial extrusion.

  • The arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian(ALE) finite element analysis is applied to the axisymmetric hot extrusion through continuous dies. In order to simulate hot forming problems, an ALE scheme for temperature analysis is proposed. The computed results are compared with experimental results as with those by pure Lagrangian method. In the present study mesh control is accomplished by the use of isoparametric mapping of quadrilaterals.

  • The use of hexagonal ceramic inserts for copper extrusion dies offers significant technical and economic advantages over other forms of manufacture. In this paper the data on the loading of the tools is determined from a commercial FEM package as the contact stress distribution on the die-workpiece interface and as temperature distributions in the die. This data can be processed as load input data for a finite element die-stress analysis.   • The characteristic properties of aluminum, high strength stiffness to weight ratio, good formability, good corrosion resistence, and recycling potential make it the ideal candidate to replace heavier materials in the car to respond to the weight reduction demand within the automotive industry. In this paper, FE simulation was carried out to design an appropriate extrusion die for the automobile control arm. Based on the FE simulation result, a new die design has been proposed for uniform material flow in the cross section of extruded product. And then the welding pressure, extrusion load, and the tendency of mandrel deflection were estimated to verify high quality. In the extrusion experiment, it was possible to produce sound product without defects.

  • In this study, die cooling system using the nitrogen gas has been applied to hot aluminum extrusion process for refining grains and reducing of grain growth. Computational fluid dynamics(CFD) has been carried out to evaluate die cooling effect by nitrogen gas, and the results of CFD have been used to FE-simulation for the prediction of the extrudate temperature in hot extrusion process. Experimental hot extrusion has been performed to observe microstructure and to measure temperature of extrudate. The results of FE-Simulation have been good agreement with those of experiment. Finally, process condition of hot extrusion can be established to reduce grain growth of Al6061 through the experiment.

  • A design system of dies for hot extrusion of structural shapes such as Z' s, L' s, T' s, U' s and H' s from aluminum alloys was developed in this study. The developed design system of dies is based of established die design rule system. The design rules for die design are obtained from the handbooks, plasticity theories and relevant references. The environment of the system is AutoCAD and AutoLISP, the graphic programming language was used for the configuration of the system. This system includes five major modules such as section shape design module, die opening number module. die opening layout module, die correction module and die bearing design module that are used to determine design variables. This system would be used to design of dies for hot extrusion from aluminum alloys and widely used in manufacturing course..
