This study looks at the reasons behind the termination of container transportation between Busan and Incheon in terms of costs structure, the division of profit, and the economic limitation faced in the domestic shipping market. The operation costs have been examined in relation to the components of logistic system of container shipping and the cost function has been estimated. The distribution proportion of operation revenue has been also investigated, considering the different components of logistics activities. In addition, the average revenue of container vessels of 144TEU and 215TEU has been calculated. Economic limitation can be analysed through the optimisation behaviour of shipping companies which tries to maximize profit or minimize loss. In conclusion, domestic short sea shipping can get the economy of scale only by transporting vessels' maximum capacity. It is also vulnerable to trucking market's fluctuation. Without the subsidy for operation, the liner in domestic short sea shipping will stop the service in order to minimize the loss.

The coastal shipping transport for containers had been serviced by Hanjin Transpotation Co., Ltd. and Korea Express Co., Ltd. from 1995. But Korea Express Co., Ltd. and Hanjin Transpotation Co., Ltd had stopped a coastal shipping transport service routed Busan-Incheon bemuse of getting worse of operation balance in 1999 and 2006 respectively. As a result of these situations, korean-flag and foreign-flag fleets are having difficulty in handling T/S cargos and in-time transport service among inter-ports in korea. As shippers also use lorry to transport their cargos than using costal shipping, it occurs increasing in national logistics' cost as well as time-consuming due to congestion on the road. Therefore, this paper identifies not anly current costal shipping transport systems but also those problems and analyses a economic effect in case of participation in the costal shipping transport service by foreign-flag vessel using monte carlo simulation.

In case of EU and USA, a short sea shipping and coastal shipping which are safer and environmentally better than road transportation are used widely. But a share of freight transport by a coastal transportation is extremely poor in South Korea. In this paper, we propose a Mokpo-Jeju intermodal transportation based on logistics analysis results. Firstly, we investigate a freight and passenger of a Mokpo-Jeju shipping route. And secondly, the intermodal transportations such as sea-train, sea-road, RORO ship system are investigated. Finally, we propose a coastal transportation system utilizing RORO ship system for Mokpo-Jeju shipping route and identify a technical feasibility of a coastal transportation system.

In this paper, the reduction of green house effect gas CO₂ emission and NOx gas emission by using the RORO ship coastal transport of import-export container cargo was investigated. At first, the domestic CO₂ gas emission and the transportation of import-export container cargo were Investigated. Next, the characteristic of a RORO ship and CO₂ emission standard and NOx emission standard were investigated. And also, the reduction of CO₂ emission and NOx emission by the shift of coastal transport from land transport for the transportation of import-export container cargo between Kyongin area and Pusan Port were calculated. Finally, the change of CO2 and NOx gas emission due to the change of the share of coastal transportation and the load efficiency of RORO ship are investigated. The research results show that the shift of RORO ship coastal transport from land transport was very effective to reduce the CO₂ emission but it was no good to reduce the NOx emission.

In this paper, the reduction of CO₂ gas emission and exhaust gas emission by using the shift of coastal transport from land transport for import-export container cargo was proposed. At first, the domestic CO₂ gas emission, exhaust gas emission and the transportation of import-export container cargo are investigated. And also, we investigated the reduction of CO₂ gas emission and exhaust gas emission by the shift of coastal transport from land transport for the transportation of import-export container cargo between Kyongin area and Pusan Port. Finally, the change of NOx gas emission due to the change of the share of coastal transportation and using the 320TEU container ship are investigated. The research results show that the shift of coastal transport from land transport was effective to reduce the CO₂ gas emission and exhaust gas emission.

In this paper, we investigate the selection of transport route for import-export container cargo based on the sacrifice model and environmental cost of transport route. At first, sacrifice model. environmental cost of transport, the transportation and the transport share of import-export container cargo are investigated briefly. And next, the transport time and cost, the environmental cost which is caused by cargo transport are investigated for the transport of import-export container cargo from Pusan Port to Seoul. And also we calculate the sacrifice of each route by using the sacrifice model including the environmental cost. Finally we decide the transport route of import-export container cargo by using the sacrifice of each transport route. From the research results, we confirm that the road transport share decreases and the coastal transport share increases when the environmental coast of transport is considered.

The purpose of this study is to review and suggest coastal shipping policies for introduction of WIG craft into domenstic passenger shipping market. Two Korean companies are leading in the development of WIG craft as an innovative sea transportation vehicle, and it is awaiting for commercialization. WIG craft is expected to be commercialized from coastal passenger market and we used AHP method to investigate the major factors and its' priority for smooth market entry. The results shows that priorities are on the WIG craft legislation, dock installation and operation, port state control, and pilot hiring and training, craft maintenance, and ship's certification in order.

Since ports play a role of gateway to the sea and hinterlands, it is essential to analyse the networks of shipping and inland when evaluating the function and development of a port. The container port of Gwangyang, starting to operate its facilities in 1998, has developed itself as a hub port. Using the data of shipping schedules of Korean ports and the measurement of centrality in sociology, this study analyses the process of world-wide shipping network expansion in Gwangyang and concludes some implications including earlier development of shipping networks due to incentives to shipping companies. Although Gwangyang port also has been expanding its inland network through developing trucking, railway transport, and coastal shipping, it has weakness in inland network as in the cases of interruption in 2004, resumption in 2009 and re-interruption in 2012 at coastal shipping. In 2000s the expansion of shipping and inland networks at the newly built container ports such as Pyungtaek, Ulsan, and Gunsan has enticed the competition among Korean ports at each hinterland. Nevertheless, the operation of Gwangyang container port is considered to affect indirectly the relocation of some manufacturers including Samsung Electronics. Studies on interrelation between development of container port and geographical demography of manufacturers are needed to assess the effects of container port on regional economy.

국내 화물운송은 도로를 이용한 비율이 90%가 넘지만 제주도를 비롯한 도서지역의 경우 해운을 통한 운송이 불가피하다. 하지만 도로운송에 비해 수익성이 좋지 않아 운송을 중단하는 사례가 많아 화주들이 선박 이용을 유도하기 위한 정책적 뒷받침이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 해외 연안해운의 공적기능과 그 지원 사례를 조사하여 이를 정책제안 등에 반영하고자 한다.
