Technology Trend in Ionic Liquids (이온성 액체의 기술 동향)

  • Ionic liquids (ILs) are the ionic salts pertaining to liquid-state at lower temperature than $100^{\circ}C$. ILs have attracted attention as new media because of their peculiar chemical, physical or electrical properties such as low volatility, nonflammability, liquid-phase stability at high temperature, high ability in solvating organic, inorganic or polymeric materials, and high ionic conductivity. Since the properties can be modified by assembling the pair using various anions and cations, ILs are often called designer solvents. In addition, ILs have been expected as new green media to replace the volatile organic solvents, which have been widely used in chemical, energy, material, and electronic industries, as well as to enhance the reaction activity and selectivity. In this review paper, the structures, properties, applications, and technology trend of ILS are introduced.

Nonlinear Elastic Optimal Design Using Genetic Algorithm (유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 비선형 탄성 최적설계)

  • The optimal design method in cooperation with a nonlinear elastic analysis method was presented. The proposed nonlinear elastic method overcame the drawback of the conventional LRFD method this approximately accounts for the nonlinear effect caused by using the moment amplification factors of and. The genetic algorithm uses a procedure based on the Darwinian notions of the survival of the fittest, where selection, crossover, and mutation operators are used to look for high performance among the sections of the database. They satisfy constraint functions and give the lightest weight to the structure. The objective function was set to the total weight of the steel structure. The constraint functions were load-carrying capacities, serviceability, and ductility requirement. Case studies for a two-dimensional frame, a three-dimensional frame, and a three-dimensional steel arch bridge were likewise presented.

Structural Performance of Concrete-encased Steel Columns using 800MPa Steel and 100MPa Concrete (800MPa 강재 및 100MPa 콘크리트를 적용한 매입형 합성기둥의 구조성능)

  • Five concrete-encased steel columns using high-strength steel($f_{ys}$=801MPa) and high-strength concrete($f_{ck}$=97.7MPa) were tested to investigate the eccentric axial load-displacement relationship. Test parameters included the type, yield strength, and spacing of lateral reinforcement, and also the eccentricity of axial load. To analyze the behavior of the column specimens, the nonlinear sectional analysis using strain-compatibility and confinement effect was performed. To examine the applicability of existing design codes for the composite sections using high-strength materials, the test results were also compared with the predictions by the nonlinear analysis and the design codes. The confinement effect of lateral reinforcement increased the ductility of concrete, and the moment capacity of the column specimens increased with the ductility of concrete. The prediction by the nonlinear analysis gave good agreement with the test results. On the other hand, the ACI 318 neglecting lateral confinement effect underestimated the strength of the column specimens, and the Eurocode 4 using complete plastic capacity of steel section overestimated.

Design Formula for the Flexural Strength of a Double Split Tee Connection (상·하부 스플릿 T 접합부의 휨강도 설계식)

  • The double split Tee connection, a type of full strength-partially restrained connection, has adequate flexural strength according to the changes in the thickness of the T-stub flange and the gauge distance of the high-strength bolts. Moreover, the double split Tee connection is designed and constructed with seismic connections that have enough ductility capacity applicable to ordinary moment frame and special moment frame by grade of steel, size of beam and column and geometric connection shape. However, such a domestic research and a proposal of a suitable design formula about the double split Tee connection are insufficient. Thus, many experimental and analytical studies are in need for the domestic application of the double split Tee connection. Therefore, this study aimed to examine and suggest feasibility of a design formula of the double split Tee connection of FEMA.

  • Earthquake damage of viaduct bridge of railroad may give rise to social loss due to transport restrictions greater than cost of structural recovery. Therefore, viaduct bridge of railroad should have ensure adequate seismic performance. But, results of seismic performance evaluation, many of seismic retrofit was required. In this study, five scale models of columns were made and four of them were reinforced by HT-A(HyperTex & perforate Aluminum) which is improved than existing method. Testing the columns by constant axial load and cyclic lateral displacements, seismic performance of columns has been verified from the result of evaluating the stiffness, ductility and energy dissipation capacity.

Flexural Design and Experiments on Reinforced Concrete Filled PHC Pile (철근 콘크리트 충전 PHC말뚝의 휨 설계 및 성능 평가)

  • The objective of this study is theoretical and empirical evaluation of the flexural performance of concrete filled pretensioned spun high strength concrete pile with ring type composite shear connectors (CFP pile). The specimens are comprised of standard CFP pile, PHC pile+composite shear connector+filed concrete (CFP-N-N), standard CFP pile with $1^{st}$ reinforcements (H13-8ea), and standard CFP pile with $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ reinforcements(H19-8ea). Flexural performance evaluation results showed that the ductility is improved with increased steel ratio, which leads to the increased maximum load by 46.4% (with $1^{st}$ reinforcement) and 103.9% (with $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ reinforcements) compared to standard CFP ( CFP-N-N). Comparing with the predicted ultimate limit state values of the CFP pile design method and the experimental results, the design method presented in this study is reasonable since safety factor of 1.23 and 1.40 times for each reinforcement step are secured.

Modeling and Parametric Studies on Moment-Curvature Relation of a Reinforced Concrete Column Subject In Axial-toad and Bi-Axil Moment (축하중과 이축모멘트를 받는 철근콘크리트 기둥의 모멘트-곡률에 관한 모델링 및 변수고찰)

  • A analytical model is developed which can simulate a complete inelastic biaxial moment-curvature relations of a reinforced concrete column. The model can simulate sudden drop in moment capacity after peak moment and due to spalling of cover concrete. Parametric studies are performed examine the effects of constituent material properties as well as topological arrangement of reinforcements on moment-curvature relations and P-M interaction curve. It has been analytically observed that ductility of a reinforced concrete column is influenced mostly by magnitude of the axial load and spacings or the volume of lateral reinforcements. Compared to ACI P-M interaction curve, overall increase about 10% in square root of sum of squares of axial force and moment, and about 20% in peak load are observed for the columns reinforced according to ACI seismic design code.

  • Many researches on the application of stainless steels as structural steels have been performed thanks to their material properties such as superior ductility and corrosion resistance. Ferritic stainless steels(STS430) with little or no nickel have been used increasingly in building structure because it is inexpensive compared to austenitic stainless steels(STS304) with nickel, but provide performances similar to the austenitic stainless steel. This paper deals with block shear fracture behavior of base metal in stainless steel welded connection. Although the block shear fracture behavior for welded connection due to stress triaxiality is different from that of bolted connection, the block shear strength of welded connection in current design specifications has been predicted based on that of bolted connection. The main parameters are weld length and welding process(Arc and TIG welds). The ultimate strengths of TIG welded specimens were higher than those of arc welded specimens and current design predictions by AISC, EC3 etc. were compared with test strengths.

  • RCI 318-8!4 recommends that when the specified cornpresslve strength of concrete In a column is greater than 1.4 times thdt spec~f~ed for a floor svsttm. top surface of the colunm concrete shall extend 2ft(600mm) into the slab from the face of colurnn to avoid unexpected brittle failure. Six test specimens were cast arid tested on 2/3 scale frame specmiens havlng different extension distances and compressive strength of concrete as the major variables. The paper discusses the performance of the frames in terms of ductility and also presents the assessment of the ACI 318-89 provisions.The test results showed that the ductility index were incrrased with increasing of compressive strength of concrete and extension distance. And top surface of the column concrete should extend 2h(h overall depth of beam) into the beam from the face of the column to avoid unexpected brittle failure in frame.

Evaluation of Structural Behavior of Large Studs Using Partial Composite Beams (부분합성보를 이용한 대직경 스터드의 구조거동 평가)

  • Large studs were suggested not only for the design of steel-concrete composite bridges with simplified sections but also for the shear connection in precast decks requiring uniform distribution of shear pockets. Based on the push-out test results on studs with diameters of more than 25 mm, partial composite beams with 40%-degree shear connection were fabricated, and static tests were performed. The ultimate strength and horizontal shear load redistribution of partial composite beams, which have parameters of stud shank diameters and distribution, were evaluated, and group failure in the shear span was observed. Since the flexural strength of composite beams are dependent on the strength of their shear connection, the strength of the stud connection was estimated and it showed considerably higher shear strength. From the load-slip curves, the sufficient ductility and load redistribution of large studs were confirmed. Uniformly distributed large studs can provide proper ultimate behavior of composite beams.
