A Study on the Prediction of Fuel Consumption of a Ship Using the Principal Component Analysis (주성분 분석기법을 이용한 선박의 연료소비 예측에 관한 연구)

  • As the regulations of ship exhaust gas have been strengthened recently, many measures are under consideration to reduce fuel consumption. Among them, research has been performed actively to develop a machine-learning model that predicts fuel consumption by using data collected from ships. However, many studies have not considered the methodology of the main parameter selection for the model or the processing of the collected data sufficiently, and the reckless use of data may cause problems such as multicollinearity between variables. In this study, we propose a method to predict the fuel consumption of the ship by using the principal component analysis to solve these problems. The principal component analysis was performed on the operational data of the 13K TEU container ship and the fuel consumption prediction model was implemented by regression analysis with extracted components. As the R-squared value of the model for the test data was 82.99%, this model would be expected to support the decision-making of operators in the voyage planning and contribute to the monitoring of energy-efficient operation of ships during voyages.

  • The amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has been increasing steadily over the last 3 years (2009~2011), averaging 5.7 percent a year, due to the growth of low cost carriers and the increased demand for air transportations. The present study attempts to investigate the aviation fuel consumption and GHG emissions of Tier 3a type by the flight phase from three aircraft type such as B737-600(routes between Gimpo-Jeju airport), B737-700(routes between Gimpo-Jeju airport and Inchon-Narita), B737-800(routes between Inchon-Narita) using the Flight Operation Quality Assurance(FOQA) data of the year 2011.

  • 과학과 기술이 발달하고 생활수준이 높아질수록 에너지의 소비량은 누증된다. 이 중에도 특히 열에너지는 대부분 석유나 석탄에 의존할 수 밖에 없는 것이 우리나라의 실정인 것이다. 우리나라의 에너지 총소비량 54.169억둔(1975년도 상공부 에너지개발과 발표)을 어떻게 얼마나 석유와 석탄으로 충당해 나갈 수 있느냐가 문제인 것이다. 석유파동으로 한번 큰 쇼크를 받었었다. 석탄의 매장량에도 한계가 있다. 여기서 이에 대체할 수 있는 방법이 없을까 해서 온 세계는 태양열발전을 서두루고 천연개스 발전 또는 지하석유자원발굴에 혈안이 되고 있다. 그런데 아직까지도 효율이 좋고 필요한 양을 자유로히 입수할 수 있는 석유등의 화석연료가 있기 때문에 새로운 연료자원의 개발이나 보급이 잘 안되는 원인의 하나였다 하겠다. 그러나 오늘날 점점 석유는 양적 한계와 제적이 심해질 뿐 아니라 언제또 공급에 제동이 걸릴지 모르고 격증하는 에너지를 보완하기 위해서는 새로운 에너지원의 개발을 서두루지 않으면 않되게 된 것이다. 자연자원중에서도 원료공급량이 풍부하고 비교적 간단한 시설로 얻어지는 메탄개스를 이용해보자는 계획이 지난 '69년도부터 산림녹화, 농촌연료해결, 환경개선등을 위해 정부시책의 일환으로 전국 농촌에 「메탄개스」이용을 관장해 왔다. 그러나 경제적부담이 힘겨운 농가사정과 시설상의 불합리, 관리의 불편등으로 호흥을 못받고 있는 실정이다. 여기서 이러한 여러가지 미비점을 과학적인 분석과 연구를 거듭하여 마침내 실용가능성을 보인 창원탱크 Co.(허범진씨)의 삼원식 메탄개스 발삼정화조라 하겠다.

Design and Performance Validation of Tactile Force Generating Type Eco-pedal to Improve Fuel Economy (연비 향상을 위한 반력 생성형 에코페달의 설계와 성능검증)

  • This research deals with design and performance validation of eco-pedals that generate tactile pedal force to guide fuel saving driving behavior. For eco-pedal control logic, allowable fuel consumption at given driving speed is calculated based on pre-defined "allowable acceleration", and if the actual fuel consumption exceeds the allowable fuel consumption, then pedal force is activated. Pedal force should be recognizable to driver while not causing unpleasantness, and should not interfere with normal operation of pedal. Reaction forces that increase pedal stiffness abruptly, such as step and ramp shape, turn out to be not suitable due to pedal overshoot after release of reaction force. With this regards, vibration type reaction force is adopted, and its optimal frequency, magnitude and duration is determined through subjective evaluation with consideration to effect to fuel efficiency. Though highway and city driving test, it is demonstrated that fuel efficiency increase of 13% for highway and 15% for city is achieved.

  • This study presents a method for realtime fuel consumption prediction using real data collected from OBDII. With the advent of the era of self-driving cars, electronic control units(ECU) are getting more complex, and various studies are being attempted to extract and analyze more accurate data from vehicles. But since ECU is getting more complex, it is getting harder to get the data from ECU. To solve this problem, the firmware was developed for acquiring accurate vehicle data in this study, which extracted 53,580 actual driving data sets from vehicles from January to February 2019. Using these data, the ensemble stacking technique was used to increase the accuracy of the realtime fuel consumption prediction model. In this study, Ridge, Lasso, XGBoost, and LightGBM were used as base models, and Ridge was used for meta model, and the predicted performance was MAE 0.011, RMSE 0.017.

  • The platooning refers to a form in which one or more following vehicles along the path of the leading vehicle(directly driven by the driver) drive in one platoon using V2V, V2I communication and vehicle-mounted sensor. Platooning has emerged in line with the increasing demand for cargo volume and advanced transportation logistics systems, and is expected to have effects such as increasing capacity, reducing labor costs, and reducing fuel consumption. However, compared to general passenger cars, research on autonomous driving of trucks and verification of their effects are insufficient. Therefore, in this study, meta-analysis was conducted on the theme of the effect of truck platooning, and the results of existing studies related to platooning effects were integrated into one reliable, generalized, and objective summary estimate. In conclusion, it was analyzed that the introduction of truck platooning would have an effect of 13.93% increase in capacity, 38.76% decrease in conflict, and 8.13% decrease in fuel consumption.

  • 석탄자원이 사용되는 분야는 에너지원료 분야(연료)와 석탄화학원료 분야(비연료)로 대별된다. 에너지원료분야는 석탄의 대표적 이용분야로서 직접 연료로 사용되거나 발전에 의한 전기에너지로 변환 이용되는 경우이고 석탄화학원료분야는 석탄을 하나의 화학물질로 취급하여 고체. 액체, 기체 형태로거 이용되는 경우로서 연료의 경우보다 이용될 수 있는 조건과 과정이 까다로우며 그 소비량도 연료의 경우보다는 소규모이다. 석탄자원을 비 연료분야로 이용할 때 , 즉 석탄을 하나의 원료소재로서 이용할 때의 이용가능 분야에 대하여 알아보자 석탄은 유기질의 고체이므로 석유와 마찬가지로 탄화수소원으로서 여러 가지 용도로 사용될 수 있다. 현재까지 연구개발 또는 공업화된 석탄이용계통을 종합하여 나타내면 그림 1과 같다. 그림 1은 석탄이용의 관련기술을 합친 여러 가지 분류법 중에서 고체 기체, 액체로서의 이용을 중심으로 체계화한 것이다.

Impacts of the Substitution of Firewood for Home Use on the Forest Greening after the 1945 Liberation of Korea (해방(解放) 이후(以後) 가정용(家庭用) 연료재(燃料材)의 대체(代替)가 산림녹화(山林綠化)에 미친 영향(影響))

  • The aim of this paper is to identify and evaluate relations for forest greening and the firewood substitution for home use after 1945 Liberation of Korea. Korea faced serious forest degradation by the early 1960s due to the enormous firewood consumption, which was about ten million cubic meters annually, for home use. If the trend of firewood consumption was maintained until 1955's, the total forest area in Korea could be thoroughly degraded within 10 years. The firewood substitution for home use had to be solved as soon as possible. For this purpose, energy sector by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry carried out the substitution policy for home using the briquettes which was the only natural resources for energy produced in Korea. Firewood was prohibited being carried in the major cities by forestry sector, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, from 1958. Only 5.2% of household in the cities used the forest products consumed as a fuel in 1970 because these inter-sectoral substitution measures of firewood for home use turned out a success gradually. After the 1970s, firewood consumption for home use was naturally decreased due to rural people's explosive move to cities, who were major consumers of firewood for home use at that time. Firewood for cooking was substituted by LPG gas after 1985 and firewood for house heating was substituted by coal and oil after 1980. Finally, on the basis of the firewood substitution for home use, the forest degradation that lasted over one hundred years was put a period.

  • The cost of fuel in ships has recently increased due to a rapid increase in international oil prices and international restrictions regarding the greenhouse effect generated from the burning of fuel. Therefore, different methods for changing the hull designs for improving energy efficiency, developing coating for reducing friction resistances, developing additives for improving engine thermal efficiency, and low-speed operation for reducing fuel consumption have been considered. The developments of high-speed, large-scale, and energy-saving vessels are deemed essential to adapt to the recent high oil price era. Therefore, it is important to analyze Precisely the qualitative and quantitative changes in the resistance value of the local areas of the hull surface. In this study, the engine performance before and after docking was analyzed to examine friction resistance caused by marine growth on the hull as a basic study for improving the energy efficiency. The result was then presented by comparing it with the previous data for 2.5 years between docks to investigate the performance of the main engine, the change in friction resistances and loads, the fuel consumption and ship speed.
