A Study on Safety Assessment for Low-flashpoint and Eco-friendly Fueled Ship (친환경연료 선박의 가스누출 피해저감을 위한 연구)

  • To limit greenhouse gas emissions from ships, numerous environmental regulations and standards have been taken into effect. As a result, alternative fuels such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), ammonia, and biofuels have been applied to ships. Most of these alternative fuels are low flashpoint fuels in the form of liquefied gas. Their use is predicted to continue to increase. Thus, management regulations for using low flash point fuel as a ship fuel are required. However, they are currently insufficient. In the case of LNG, ISO standards have been prepared in relation to bunkering. The Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF), a non-governmental organization (NGO), has also prepared and published a guideline on LNG bunkering. The classification society also requires safety management areas to be designated according to bunkering methods and procedures for safe bunkering. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a procedure for setting a safety management area according to the type of fuel, environmental conditions, and leakage scenarios and verify it with a numerical method. In this study, as a feasibility study for establishing these procedures, application status and standards of the industry were reviewed. Classification guidelines and existing preceding studies were analyzed and investigated. Based on results of this study, a procedure for establishing a safety management area for bunkering in domestic ports of Korea can be prepared.

  • In this study, waste cooking oil was gasified in a fluidized bed reactor. The main objective of this study was to produce clean producer gas for power generation engine. As a result, heating value of producer gas is suitable for engine operation and tar content in producer gas was satisfied after use of activated carbon filter. Results from a lab scale experiment and a preliminary results from a pilot scale experiment will be presented.

발전용 연료전지 PCS 기술 및 개발 동향

  • 발전용 연료전지로서 가장 유망한 MCFC와 SOFC는 현재 국내에서도 활발히 상용화가 진행되고 있다. 300kW급의 스택을 이용하여 작게는 수MW급 분산전원으로부터 수십 또는 수백 MW급의 대규모 발전플랜트를 구축하는데 있어서 PCS는 전체가격의 10~25%를 차지하는 상용화에 매우 중요한 핵심 장치이다. 본고에서는 발전용 연료전지 PCS의 국내외 기술개발 동향을 소개하고 저전압 출력의 PCS 기술 및 PCS의 대규모화에 요구되는 차세대 기술과 기술적인 이슈를 소개하고자 한다.

  • 가스터빈 연소기의 연소 효율을 높이기 위해서는 연료와 공기의 충분한 혼합이 필요하다. 연료와 흡입되는 공기의 혼합은 큰 스케일의 난류 성분보다는 오히려 연소기내에서 국부적으로 작용하는 작은 스케일의 난류 성분에 크게 지배를 받게된다. 이러한 혼합 촉진을 위해 연료와 공기의 경계면에서의 운동에너지를 증가시키는 방법은 압력의 손실을 가져오게 되지만 혼합의 촉진에 의한 완전연소와 저 NOx화는 더 큰 이익을 가져다 준다.(중략)

The Effect of Low Boiling Point Oxygenates on the Diesel Engine Performance and Emissions (저비점 함산소물질이 디젤기관의 성능과 배기배출물에 미치는 영향)

  • In the study, the effect of low boiling point oxygenates in high viscous fuels on the exhaust emissions has been investigated for a single cylinder DI diesel engine. It was tested to estimated change of engine performance and exhaust emission characteristics for the base fuels and low boiling point oxygenates blended fuel which have six kinds of fuels and various mixed rates. The results of the study may be con eluded as follows By blending of various low boiling point oxygenated agents to lower grade fuels, significant improvements were simultaneously obtained in smoke, CO, PM, SOF and BSEC. Especially, these trends were remarkably obtained by retarding injection timing, by decreasing boiling point and increasing blending contents of additives in case of oxygenated agents rather than non-oxygenated agents. Also, it was revealed that when 20 vol.% DMM added to high viscosity fuels and injection timing was retarded, Nox-smoke trade off relationship was much better than that of ordinary diesel fuel. Thus, lower grade fuels with high viscosity could be expected to be used efficiently and cleanly in diesel operation by blending low boiling point oxygenates.

  • In the recent International Maritime Organization's (IMOs) Maritime Safety Committee's 93rd session, the International Chamber of Shipping and International Parcel Tankers Association addressed marine fuel oil quality problems: increasing diluents in marine fuel oil, ignition in engine rooms due to the low flash point of fuel oil, and marine fuel oils that can damage marine engines. To deal with these marine fuel oil quality problems, the International Maritime Organization secretariat appointed the worlds marine fuel oil monitoring institute and constituted a correspondence group to determine the fuel oil quality required by MARPOL Annex VI regulation 14.8 (sulfur content less than 0.5%). In this study, basic research that can help with responding to marine fuel quality issues and the IMO's work is conducted. In order to perform this basic research, the off-spec ratio related to the fuel oil quality standard (ISO 8217:2012), density distribution tendency, gross specific energy, and correlation between components in the fuel oil are analyzed through actual marine fuel oil (residual marine fuel) data from the Port of Singapore.

Effect of Ultrasonic Irradiation on On-board Fuel Analyzed Using Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS를 이용한 선박연료유에 대한 초음파조사 효과 분석)

  • Since the enforcement of strict regulations on marine fuel oil sulfur content, demand for Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (LSFO) has been increasing. However, as LSFO properties vary greatly depending on the supply timing, region, and supplier, LSFOs can experience problems with sludge formation, blending compatibility, and stability once mixed into storage tanks. This study investigates using ultrasound cavitation effects to improve the quality of LSFOs in storage tanks. For marine gas oil (MGO), the results showed that the relative ratio of high molecular weight compounds to those of low molecular weight decreased after ultrasonic irradiation, due to cavitation-induced cracking of chemical bonds. For marine diesel oil (MDO) and blended oil, a small increase in the relative abundance of low weight molecular compounds was observed after treatment. However, no correlation between time and relative abundance was observed.

A Study on Optimal Hydrogen Supply System for materialization of Hydrogen Economy (수소경제 실현을 위한 수소최적공급시스템 연구)

  • 본 연구는 부문별 수소 및 연료전지의 수요량을 산정하고 원활한 수소공급을 위한 수소제조원의 최적믹스를 바탕으로 수소 도입 이후의 에너지믹스를 제시하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. BaU 전망은 에너지경제연구원의 전망을 바탕으로 하였으며 기준안, 고유가안, 저유가안의 세가지 시나리오를 설정하여 각 시나리오별 분석을 수행하였다. 기준안에 따르면 수소 및 연료전지는 2015년 시장에 도입되어 2031년 5%의 시장보급률을 확보한 이후 보급률이 급격히 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 수소 연료전지 시장중 특히 수송부문이 선도적 역할을 할 것으로 기대되며 FCV 보급대수는 2040년 1,132만대로 전체 자동차 시장의 48.4%를 차지할 전망이다. 최종에너지 중 수소의 비중은 2040년 8.7%에 이를 것으로 예측되며 수소의 도입으로 인해 1차에너지 중 신${\cdot}$재생에너지 비중이 BaU 대비 약 5.1%p 증가한 12.1%에 이를 것으로 분석되었다. 총 수소수요량은 777만톤에 이를 전망이다. 고유가안에서는 수소 및 연료전지가 2012년에 시장에 도입되는 것으로 가정하였으며 2040년 FCV 보급대수는 1,633만대에 이를 전망이다. 최종에너지 중 수소 비중은 11.5%에 이를 것으로 예상되며 1차에너지 신${\cdot}$재생에너지 비중은 11.6%로 분석되었다. 수소수요량은 1,015만톤으로 전망된다. 저유가안에서는 수소 및 연료전지가 2018년 도입되는 것으로 가정 하였다. 이 경우 2040년 FCV는 641만대가 보급되어 자동차 등록대수의 27.4%를 차지할 것으로 전망된다. 최종에너지 중 수소 비중과 1차에너지중 신${\cdot}$재생에너지 비중은 각각 5.5%, 9.1%에 이를 것으로 분석되었으며 수소수요량은 496만톤으로 전망된다.
