  • Mixing performance between fuel and oxidizer is a significant parameter of combustion efficiency and stability in an air-turbo ramjet combustor. Two types of petal mixer were experimented to research the mixing performance. Mixing performance and fuel distribution images were obtained for petal mixers. Planar laser-induced fluorescence(PLIF) was used to obtain 2-D fuel distribution. The obtained images were processed in order to make use of the image information to a quantitative level. The results of analyzing the fluorescence images could be useful to find better mixing performance between mixers.

  • Fuel/air mixing in air turbo ramjet(ATR) combustor is a significant parameter of combustion stability and efficiency. In this study, fuel distribution in the ATR model combustor was measured to compare the degree of mixing with respect to the velocity ratio$(r=v_a/v_f)$ between fuel gas and air. Planar laser-induced fluorescence(PLIF) and image processing method were used to obtain two dimensional fuel distribution. Fuel mixing went bad with approaching to r=1.

  • The fuel cell has been continuously studied as environment-compatible alternative energy technology. Lately the basic techniques about stacking and widening are considered to be important for practical use. Although phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC) is the most progressed one in the fuel cell technologies, few studies about temperature profile of the stack which can be the basic data for the fuel cell design have been reported yet. In this study, the temperature profile of PAFC stack was simulated. The temperature profiles of stack were obtained at various operating conditions, and when stack is operated the proper position to measure the temperature could be predicted. Also we can propose more effective cooling design. The standard deviation of the temperature profile of the proposed design was is about 50% smaller.

  • This study compared and analyzed the effects of forest tending works on the vertical distribution of wildfire fuel loads on Pinus densiflora stands in Gyeongbuk province. The study sites were located in Youngju and Bonghwa in Pinus densiflora stands. A total of 10 sample trees were collected for the development of the crown fuel vertical distribution model. The 6th NFI (National Forest Inventory) selected a sample point that only extracted from managed and unmanaged stands of Pinus densiflora in the Gyeongbuk province. The fitness index (F.I.) of the two models developed was 0.984 to 0.989, with the estimated parameter showing statistical significance (P<0.05). A s a results, the vertical distribution of wildfire fuel loads range of unmanaged stands was from 1m to 11m with the largest distribution at point 5m at the tree height. On the other hand, the vertical distribution of wildfire fuel loads range of the managed stands was from 1m to 15m with the largest distribution at the point of 8m at the tree height. The canopy bulk density was 0.16kg/㎥ for the managed stands and 0.25kg/㎥ for the unmanaged stands, unmanaged stands were about 1.6 times more than managed stands. This result is expected to be available for simulation through the implementation of the 3D model as crown fuel was analyzed in three dimensions.

  • The present study investigated the effects of MTV(Manifold Throttle Valve) on the fuel distribution and the flame stability in a SI engine at cold, idling condition. For the quantitative measurement of fuel distribution with PLIF method, compensating techniques of various factors such as laser beam nonuniformity, background image and local OTF nonuniformity were developed. As a result, it was found that MTV had a positive effect on the air-fuel mixing and flame stability.

  • The atomizations of CWM slurry and water are done by a wheel atomizer which is designed and manufactured for this experiment. The variables of the experiment are the angle of vane, aspect ratio, particle loading and the mean size of coal particle distribution. The main purposes of the experiment are to know how the angle of vane and aspect ratio of vane influence the size distribution of CWM droplets. The experimental results say there are no appreciable effects on the mean size of CWM droplets from the change of loading of coal prticles in slurry. The mean size of coal particle in slurry, however, influence quite strongly the mean size of CWM droplets. The mean size of CWM droplets is quite strongly affected by the angle of vane. The size distribution of CWM droplets is controllable by the change of aspect ratio.

  • In accordance with the sulfur regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), very low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO) shows various production-dependent physico-chemical properties. This study aims to use as basic data for oil spill response according to study of physico-chemical characteristics of VLSFO and mixed fuel oil of VLSFO-HSFO. The mixed fuel oil was prepared by mixing 25, 50, 75 mass% of HSFO with VLSFO containing 0.46 and 0.36 mass% of sulfur. The physico-chemical properties such as the kinematic viscosity, pour point and distribution of Saturates, Aromatics, Resins, and Asphaltenes (SARA) were studied in the laboratory. As mixed of 75 mass% of HSFO with high the kinematic viscosity and low pour point in VLSFO, the kinematic viscosity of the mixed fuel oil increased to 350.2 %, and VLSFO with pour point of 23℃ and -11℃ lowered or raised to -3℃ and -6℃ respectively. As HSFO was mixed in VLSFO with a small Asphaltenes distribution, the Saturates distribution decreased to 68.8% and Asphaltenes distribution increased to 1,417 % dramatically.
