This study aims to implement the Sustainability Evaluation Framework of Korea Natural Parks to county parks in Gyeongsangnam-do, and to review the performance status of management effectiveness evaluation (MEE) and identify factors that influence the improvement of management effectiveness in protected areas. County park officers evaluated current management using this framework that was developed based on the MEE framework designed by the Korean Ministry of Environment. Among the principal values of county parks, 'natural and ecological' is indicated as the most important, followed by 'cultural and historic value' and 'leisure and recreation'. Natural disasters and climate change, visitor impact-inappropriate visitor behavior are indicated as current threats, and three county parks administrators viewed that there was no particular threat to their park. According to MEE results, the most effective management fields were 'State of cultural and historic value', 'State of leisure and recreational value', 'Current state of principal value'. The comparatively weaker fields were 'Threatened species management', 'Invasive species management', 'Management monitoring and evaluation'. The effects of sustainable management on county parks were analyzed through a regression analysis, and the influence of management factors reveal 'Annual budget', will impact attaining higher management scores. This study presents the current management information about county parks and provides support for the basis for the planning of county parks in Korea, suggesting the influencing factor.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of hypertension relevant nutrition knowledge on practices for prevention of hypertension in Chinese college students studying in South Korea. Methods: We conducted a survey of 276 Chinese students studying more than three months in Korean universities who were aged 19 and older about hypertension and sodium relevant nutrition knowledge, intake of salty processed food, hypertension prevention practices, and stages of behavior change for hypertension. Results: The average score on the questionnaire for hypertension relevant nutritional knowledge was 40.62 out of 50 points, and the average score for sodium relevant nutritional knowledge was 24 out of 30 points. Kimchi was the most frequently eaten salty processed food. The average score for hypertension prevention practices was 3.10 out of 5 points. The behavior change stages for prevention of hypertension were contemplation (47.1%), action (32.2%), and pre-contemplation (20.7%). The students received high scores on nutrition knowledge and showed significantly higher scores on the action stage than on pre-contemplation or contemplation. Nutritional knowledge of hypertension and sodium showed positive correlation with hypertension prevention practices, whereas negative correlation with salty processed food intake. Conclusion: Development of an education program for Chinese students in Korea on hypertension and sodium relevant nutritional knowledge is needed so that they can practice for prevention of hypertension.

The East Sea, a marginal sea or back-arc basin, consists of Japan Basin, Yamato Basin, and Ulleung Basin and is surrounded by the Pacific Plate and Philippine Sea Plate. Ulleung Basin locates in the southwestern part of the East Sea and shows the depth of 1,500 m in average and 2,500 m in maximum, connecting to the Japan Basin along 2,000 m contour. The slope of the seafloor is greater in the western side of the basin than in the southern and the eastern side. The crustal thickness of the Ulleung Basin from the OBS tends to get thicker toward the north and the west side and the sediment thickness of the Ulleung Basin is getting thicker toward the southeast side and reaches up to 12 km. The crustal type of the Ulleung Basin was variously suggested as like as a rifted continental crust, an extended continental crust, and an incipient oceanic trust. The origin of the crustal formation and the Ulleung Basin, however, is still controversial. Based on the bathymetry and gravtiy anomaly data for this study, the axis of the Ulleung Basin shows that the basin develops along the axis trending NW-SE direction and reveals a general symmetry of the bathymetry. And also the free-air gravity anomalies show a very similar pattern to the bathymetry of the basin. The sediment thickness is relatively thicker in the southeastern side of the basin than in the northwestern side. Although the crustal age of the Ulleung Basin is supposed to be younger than them of the Japan Basin and the Yamato Basin, the free-air gravity anomalies of the Ulleung Basin ranging -40 to 50 mGals are lower than the other basins, which suggests that the densities of crust and sediment of the Ulleng Basin are lower than the Japan Basin and the Yamato Basin.
This study monitored and compared the contamination levels of total aerobic bacteria, coliforms, Escherichia coli, and L. monocytogenes of either lettuce, sesame leaf, or cucumber sampled from either 15 super markets(SM) or 21 traditional markets(TM) located in both Seoul and the southern part of Gyunggi. Contamination levels of total aerobic bacteria and coliforms in lettuce, sesame leaf, or cucumber from SM or TM were not (p>0.05) significantly different. The highest contamination levels of total aerobic bacteria were observed in lettuce and followed by sesame leaf and cucumber. The contamination levels of total aerobic bacteria in lettuce, sesame leafs, and cucumbers were $7.01{\pm}0.14\;log_{10}CFU/g(SM)$ and $7.10{\pm}0.11\;log_{10}CFU/g(TM)$, $6.69{\pm}0.20\;log_{10}CFU/g(SM)$ and $6.44{\pm}0.13\;log_{10}CFU/g(TM)$, and $5.37{\pm}0.25 \;log_{10}CFU/g(SM)$ and $5.27{\pm}0.19\;log_{10}CFU/g(TM)$, respectively. A similar pattern of contamination rank was observed with the coliforms in three vegetables as was observed with the total aerobic bacteria E. coli were not significantly (p>0.05) different between SM and TM and isolated over $30\%$ in lettuce and sesame leaf and below $10\%$ in cucumbers. L. monocytogenes were not detected in all three vegetables(ND: cucumber <3 CFU/g, lettuce and sesame leaf <10 CFU/g). The microbial contamination levels determined in the present study may be used as the primary data to execute microbial risk assessment of fresh vegetables.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the BMI, dietary behaviors, body satisfaction and factors affecting the weight control interest according to gender of middle school students (195 boys and 251 girls) in Wonju area. The average height and weight of the boys were $164.8{\pm}8.3\;cm$ and $55.5{\pm}12.3\;kg$ respectively. Those of the girls were $158.8{\pm}5.0\;cm$ and $48.7{\pm}7.4\;kg$ respectively. The average body mass index (BMI) of the boys and girls was 20.3 and 19.3 respectively. In both boys and girls, 69.7% of them had regular meals and the main reason for skipping meals was insufficient time to eat due to oversleeping (33.6%). Most of the subjects consumed snacks more than once a day (95.5%). The dietary intake attitude score of the girls ($35.08{\pm}5.91$) was higher than that of the boys ($33.81{\pm}5.45$) (p<0.01). The eating disorders score of the girls ($12.92{\pm}6.22$) was higher than that of the boys ($10.70{\pm}9.82$) (p<0.01). Also, 87.2% of the subjects showed normal behavior and 12.8% of the subjects had eating disorders, but there was no significant difference according to gender. The body satisfaction score of the boys ($30.16{\pm}5.08$) was higher than that of the girls ($28.00{\pm}5.52$) (p<0.001). In general, body satisfaction score correlated positively with dietary intake attitude score, but correlated negatively with eating disorders score (p<0.05). Multiple regression analysis revealed that body satisfaction score was the most significant variable which affected the weight control interest. Therefore, development of the nutrition education program for adolescents will be effective not only for the improvement of dietary behaviors but also for the positive change in the misleading perception about the ideal body shape.

This study was performed to assess the risk factors associated with hypertension from Jan/2003 to Feb/2003. The subjects were 1,296 people (496 males, 800 females) aged 40 years and over living in Andong rural area. The hypertensive group was composed of 602 people (272 males, 330 females), who were diagnosed as hypertension ($SBP{\geq}140\;mmHg$ or $DBP{\geq}90\;mmHg$) for the first time at this health examination. The mean anthropometric values of body weight, body fat (%), body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference were significantly higher in hypertensive group than those in normal group. However, the biochemical measurements such as total-cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), HDL-C, LDL-C and fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels did not show any difference between two groups except TG in female. The risk factors of interest in the development of hypertension were analyzed using the multiple logistic regression and expressed as odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidential interval (CI). The results showed that age, sex, obesity, waist circumference, alcohol drinking and meat intakes were risk factors for hypertension. In contrast, cigarette smoking, exercise and the increased fish, fruit and vegetable (except Kimchi) consumption, blood lipid levels and FBG were not linked with the development of hypertension. Nutrient intakes were not associated with hypertension, either. In conclusion, we cannot assert that this study established the existence of the cause-and-effect relationship between nutrient intakes and risk of hypertension in the subjects, but it does suggest that this is a question worth investigating further using a larger scale of case-control study to determine how the past exposure to some nutrient or dietary component relates to the development of the disease.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the spectra of a magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in accordance with the variance of TE and the volumes of metabolites in a localized voxel for the quality assurance using a designed single voxel spectroscopy QA phantom. Because a cone-shade phantom is designed as the volume of metabolite in a localized voxel is changeable, we try to analyze the peaks of each metabolite (NAA, Cr, Cho, Lac, etc.) in accordance with metabolite volume in a localized voxel as well as echo time (TE). All data were obtained using a 3T MRI/MRS machine and analyzed using $jMRUI^{(R)}$. The results of this study show that TE is in inverse proportion to the noise of MRS and the longer TE and the less metabolite volume in the localized voxel, the peak intensities of each metabolite decrease. In case of the lactate, its peak was observed on the all TE only if the greatest metabolite is included in the localized voxel. Then, the intensity of a metabolite is more sensitive to the metabolite volume in the localized voxel than the TE. These obtained in vitro MRS data is provide the guideline that is important for in vivo metabolite quantification. But, in the edge of cone-shape vial air bubbles were observed and spectrum could not obtained. Therefore our cone-shape MRS phantom needs to be modified in order to solve these problems.

Due to the urbanization, concentrated population, and limited land exploitation in the modern society, the environment surrounding that we live in is getting polluted more and more, and it has become hard even to let urban children experience the nature. This research was conducted to help people recognize the importance of our natural resources through the environmental education of elementary school and to use school's practical open-space for the Indigenous Plants education. The results of this study are as follows : First, the status of a plant utilization in our institutional education : There were 362 species totally of 124 species of Trees, 156 species of Herbs, 63 species of Crops, and 19 species of Hydrophytes which appear in the elementary school text book. Of all, the most frequently appearing species of tree were the Malus pumila var. dulcissima, Pinus densijlora, Citrus unshiu, Diospyros kaki. Second, the effect of plant education using the land around schools : The result of research on the open-space of the 19 elementary schools located in Mapo-gu showed that most of the species planted are the Juniperus chinensisrose, Hibiscus syriacus. Pelargonium inquinans in the order of size, and the plants appearing in text book were grown in the botanical garden organized in 7 schools. Especially most of the Indigenous Plants were being planted in botanical garden, and Pinus densijlora, Abeliophyllum distichum, Polygonatum var. plurijlorum, Liriope platyphylla and so on. Last, the result of this research on recognition of Environment, Planting education and Indigenous plants : It showed that educational necessity of students and teachers about environment and Indigenous Plants was more than 80%. The management of botanical garden was conducted by some teachers and managers. The results of this study suggested that we needed the reconstruction of curriculum, the efficient application of plant education for effectiveness of using school environment and monitoring continually and construction information sources for the better environment education in the elementary schools.
This study was carried out to analyze the changes in nitrogen compounds, free-amino acids and volatile organic acids of traditional Korean Soy Sauce with two different fermentation jars and varying Meju concentration. Total nitrogen content in the glass jar was higher than that of the clay jar. However, the glass jar contained more nitrogen in ammonia type nitrogen and less in amino type nitrogen than clay jar, resulting in inferior quality. Total free amino acids content was highest on the 150th day. Among free amino acids, the concentration of glutamic acids, aspartic acid, serine, alanine and lysine, which give sweet and savory taste, were higher than that of the others. Phenylalanine, valine, leucine and isoleucine, which give bitter taste, were also present in significant quantities. Among identified volitile organic acids, acetic acid was present in the hightest concentration, and it's concentration was higher in the jar than in the glass jar. Meju concentration 1:4 showed slow increse while 1.3:4 showed similar trends in the glass jar 1:4 and clay jar 1.3:4, and it's concentration decreased after the ripening period in all samples. In addition valerie acid and capric acid were also present in small quantities.
