Archives and the cultural institution can be a major player in the reforming the history education as conducted in Britain. This paper deals with the Moving Here project led by The National Archives. The vision of the project is to overcome barriers to the direct involvement of minority ethnic groups in recording their own history of migration and to ensure this history is passed on to the next generation through schools. More than 200,000 digitised images and documents in the Moving Here have been selected from the 28 content partners' collections. In addition, TNA and the regional partners worked with minority ethnic groups to record their culture and stories. In doing so, real and lasting relation between the community and the ethnic groups has developed. The outputs of the project such as films and stories were distributed free for regional schools. The School section of the Moving Here provides a range of education resources. One of the most impressive outcome of the project is the minority's desire to have their own archives for identity and self-esteem.

  • The purpose of this article is to understand Ahn Hwak(1886~1946)'s perception of national history through "History of Joseon Literature" and "History of Joseon Civilization". He presented the 'cultural history' of Joseon from a modern point of view, by exploring the mental and emotional aspects of the Korean people ingrained in the literary works from the various historical periods. He also reconstructed the national history from Gojoseon era to Joseon dynasty as a continuous 'political history'. For him, a nation was not merely a cultural community, but also a political community. His thought was that while 'culture' and 'politics' are dualistic, they should also be viewed as the two sides of the same coin. In "History of Joseon Literature", Ahn emphasized the mental 'Awakening(自覺)' of the nation. 'Awakening' is a process of universal progress in which the mind pursues freedom by freeing itself from the material bondage. In "History of Joseon Civilization", he finds history of 'Autonomy(自治)' as the characteristics of Joseon's 'history of politics'. He believes that Joseon was able evolve into 'self-aware and voluntary civilization' because of the tradition of 'Autonomy', a political system of reflecting and gathering of the will of the people. Through his two books, Ahn Hwak underlines the idea that the national history of Joseon was a history of 'Awakening', from a cultural perspective, and a history of 'Autonomy', from a political point of view. To him, 'Awakening' was a concept focused on the universality of the mind, while 'Autonomy' was a concept that emphasized the uniqueness of a nation. In sum, Ahn Hwak, through his works, tried to combine cultural universality and political identity.

  • Korea boasts outstanding cultural heritage accumulated over the 5 thousand-year-long history, but has neglected developing marketable commercial products out of its culture. As a result, despite the fact that Korea had successfully developed internationally well-acknowledged technologies, there isn't any exceptional cultural product that can be marketed globally. Therefore, it is necessary to re-design and commercialize a modern sense using unique materials in traditional culture. Fabrics made by natural dyeing have a low saturation, so they do not need special color harmony, they are natural and comfortable. Therefore, fabrics obtained by natural dyeing are considered to be a very suitable material for cultural product development. In addition, Hanji is a good material that can build a field of art by itself because it has a quality, a profound and elegant feeling. In this study, Hanji-fabric, which is made of excellent Hanji, is used for natural dyeing with. Using the dyed fabrics, the cultural products such as two parasols and a card holder was made and presented.
