  • In this paper, an analytical approach for the design and analysis of an aperiodic electromagnetic bandgap (EBG)-based power distribution network (PDN) in high-speed integrated-circuit (IC) packages and printed circuit boards (PCBs) is proposed. Aperiodic EBG is an effective method to solve the noise problem of high-speed IC packages and PCBs. However, its analysis becomes challenging due to increased computation time. To overcome the problem, the proposed analytical method entails deriving impedance parameters for EBG island and the overall PDN, which includes locally placed EBG structures. To validate the proposed method, a test vehicle is fabricated, demonstrating good agreement with the measurements. Significantly, the proposed analytical method reduces computation time by 99.7 %compared to the full-wave simulation method.

  • The wideband chirp signal generator to enhance the resolution of synthetic aperture radar of obtaining the earth observation image is needed. This paper deals with designing, manufacturing and testing the wideband digital chirp signal generator having high resolution for LEO earth observation satellite. The wideband digital chirp signal generator is implemented with the memory-map based structure which is mostly applied in the satellite, and consists of the digital module to generate the digital chirp signal and the RF module to perform the quadrature modulation. The I/Q signals stored in the memory of the digital module are D/A converted and delivered to be quadrature modulated with the reference signal of 1275 MHz in the RF module. Furthermore, the test bench and GUI to validate the signal generator function are also developed. It is found that the requirement of 144 MHz bandwidth for the digital chirp signal generator is well met. Finally it is noteworthy that the distortion occurred in the chirp signal generator was compensated by the pre-distortion compensation.

  • Cymbal transducers are often used as an array rather than single because they have a high quality factor and low energy conversion efficiency. When used as an array, there occurs a big change in the frequency characteristics of the array due to the interaction between constituent transducers. In this study, we designed the structure of a cymbal transducer array to have ultra-wideband characteristics using this property. First, cymbal transducers with specific center frequencies were designed. Then, a 2×2 planar array was constructed with the designed transducers, where the cymbal transducers were arranged to have same or opposite polarization directions. For this structure, we analyzed the effect of the difference in the center frequency of and the spacing between the constituent transducers on the acoustical characteristics of the array. Based on the analysis, we designed the structure of the cymbal transducer array to have the widest possible bandwidth.

  • In this paper we propose a new Hybrid learning rule applied to multilayer feedforward neural networks, which is constructed by combining Hebbian learning rule that is a good feature extractor and Back-Propagation(BP) learning rule that is an excellent classifier. Unlike the BP rule used in multi-layer perceptron(MLP), the proposed Hybrid learning rule is used for uptate of all connection weights except for output connection weigths becase the Hebbian learning in output layer does not guarantee learning convergence. To evaluate the performance, the proposed hybrid rule is applied to classifier problems in two dimensional space and shows better performance than the one applied only by the BP rule. In terms of learning speed the proposed rule converges faster than the conventional BP. For example, the learning of the proposed Hybrid can be done in 2/10 of the iterations that are required for BP, while the recognition rate of the proposed Hybrid is improved by about $0.778\%$ at the peak.

  • This study was conducted to clarify the characteristics of habitat structure and bird communities between natural deciduous forest and around the road from October 2005 to August 2006 in the National Arboretum, Gwangneung, Korea. There were more larger trees and higher coverage of crown canopy in the natural deciduous forest than around the road. A total thirty seven species of birds were observed in the natural deciduous forest and twenty species were around road. The observed number of bird species and individuals, and bird species diversity index (H') were higher in the natural deciduous forest in each season. Foraging and nesting guild structures were also different. The differences of characteristics of bird communities would be related with habitat structure between both study areas.

  • Recently, as the environment-friendly factors has become more important than before. In other words, the new model in trade has emerged as an important issue. At the same time, environmental trade is emerging as a new barrier due to the increasing international trade environmental regulation linked with environment. International trade environmental regulation has a huge impact on the whole industry, so if you can not cope with it in a timely manner, you can suffer great damage. Therefore, global export and import companies are required to manage green supply chains, and companies need to reestablish strategic systems throughout supply chain management with renewed awareness of the importance of eco-friendliness in the international trade environment. In this study, we investigated how companies perceive international trade environment regulation and how this affects the use of Green SCM.

  • As XML documents have much richer information than plain texts, we can perform very elaborated, fine-grained search which was difficult in past years. However, as the cost of finer grained element level search is very high, the processing overhead has become a new challenge. We propose an inverted index structure called PIX, which reduces the number of elements processed by partitioning elements according to their match potentiality. We choose a base level and partition elements according to whether they have possibility of having a common ancestor higher than the level. We also propose partition merging technique by which we can get same results as unpartitioned case. Our experimental results show that the index partitioning strategy can reduce processing time considerably.

  • This paper presents a neural network controller design for complex damage to a blended wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV): partial loss of main wing and vertical tail. Longitudinal/lateral axis instability and the change of flight dynamics is investigated via numerical simulation. Based on this, neural network based adaptive controller combined with two types of feedback linearization are designed in order to compensate for the complex damage. Performance of two kinds of dynamic inversion controllers is analyzed against complex damage. According to the structure of the dynamic inversion controller, the performance difference is confirmed in normal situation and under damaged situation. Numerical simulation verifies that the instability from the complex damage of the UAV can be stabilized via the proposed adaptive controller.

  • In this paper, the broadband antenna design, which can be applied to USB Dongle, supporting Wibro(2.3~2.4 GHz), Wi-Fi(2.4~2.5 GHz) and LTE7(2.5~2.7 GHz) is proposed technique. The proposed antenna was designed similar to PIFA type antennas. Reactive elements were used to control the input impedance and wideband characteristics were achieved by controlling coupling between the feed structure and the radiator. As a result, the antenna printed on FR-4 PCB(${\epsilon}_r$ =4.4, tan ${\delta}$=0.02) occupying an area of $15{\times}5mm^2$ was able to achieve bandwidth of 1 GHz from 2.1 to 3.1 GHz under VSWR=2. Measured return loss characteristics, bandwidth and radiation patterns were in good agreement with the simulated results.

  • A reverberation chamber is widely used in mobile handset measurements due to its faster and simpler measurement process compared to traditional anechoic chambers. We propose an ultra-wideband inverse conical antenna design suitable as a reference antenna in a reverberation chamber. Traditionally, multiple discone antennas are needed to cover more than 10:1 operation bandwidth of a reverberation chamber. The proposed inverse conical antenna offers wideband impedance matching bandwidth by virtue of the linear impedance transition along its oblique side. The antenna is feasible to mount on the conductive walls which can be utilized as a ground to improve the matching bandwidth, antenna gain and radiation patterns. The antenna geometry is optimized using a 3D electromagnetic simulation tool and fabricated using a 3D printer. The measured results show that the antenna reflection coefficient lower than -10dB and radiation efficiency more than 70% at the frequency range of 0.65~7 GHz.
