  • This study starts from the hypothesis that the information society has affected the layman's interpretation and production of content. Specifically, the manner and contents of communication concerning the landscape of Soonyoo-do Park in blogs are surveyed and the possibilities and limitations of this phenomenon are discussed. The following topics are dealt with. Firstly, what is the landscape of Seonyoodo Park as captured by bloggers? What type of landscape do bloggers respond to? Secondly, what is the unique way that bloggers capture and interpret the landscape? Thirdly, What are the possibilities and limitations discovered from the landscape as captured and interpreted by bloggers? Thus, 1,000 blog posts concerning Soonyoo-do Park, as culled from the Internet, were categorized into three areas, First are blog posts browsed by keywords such as 'photo', 'a photographer's visit', 'a good p1ace for taking photos', and 'landscape'. These are focused on the visual aspects of the landscape. The second category is posts under the keywords 'domestic travel', 'Seoul travel', 'travel', and 'recommendation'. They contain introductory information on Seonyoodo Park; that is, they focus cm the more utilitarian functions of Seonyoodo Park as a place. The third one is posts that record personal experiences. The subjects for photography are the bloggers themselves and their companions. As a result of studying the way bloggers deal with landscape, it was found that first, people have developed the ability to capture the landscape and interpret the landscape actively and independently. This process can be regarded as the reproduction of landscape and place. In addition, the recording of their appreciation and feeling overlaps with evaluation and assumption. One negative aspect, however, is that many bloggers dramatize and repeat similar scenes. This can be seen as a make-up of image. The limitations of this study include difficulty in interpretation because blogs, which are the objects of this study, are very subjective and personal. In addition, it was not easy to categorize posts because there were diverse images and a broad range of writing. Nevertheless, practitioners of landscape architecture should continue to monitor and use one-person media like blogs, because the relationship between modern man and the landscape can be better understood through them.

  • A sudden change of social structure makes the nations have experienced terrorism to establish an anti-terrorism law and associate with international agreements to protect themselves from terrorism. Korea is exposed to terrorism as it has grown in stature by holding the international occasions and has been easy to travel abroad since 1980. Korea regulates the terrorist by a guideline which was established in 1982 by the presidential instruction and other criminal law. However, the majority of people doubt the propriety of overinterpretation of the law and punishment for terrorism. To cope with the situation strongly, it is better to establish an anti-terrorism law to block terrorism and apprehend the terrorist beforehand. Also we should realign an anti-terrorism organization that should be organized by the type of terrorism. In addition, we can expect to avoid waste of a budget and human efforts if we introduce terrorism warning system and face with each stage of situation. Lastly it is possible to prevent terrorism if we build up preventive actions along with the local residents.

Due to the competition in airline industries, most of airlines offer a various level of benefits to customers such as a frequent traveller bonus, a schedule, services in flight including a meal and an entertainment program, a discounted fare and an intangible part of personal service. However, it is very difficult to measure the performance of the customers' benefit and to identify the weight of each factor being considered on the airline choice. In this paper, we focus on the airline choice process for the business travellers. The AHP is applied to evaluate the factors reflecting the business travellers' choice for airlines. This study will be useful to build a marketing plan for the business traveller's market.

  • Dengue fever is an important health problem for international travelers to all endemic areas. The steadily increasing numbers of tourists visiting endemic areas raise the risk of exposure, and imported dengue cases are increasingly observed in nonendemic area. Dengue has a wide spectrum of clinical presentations, often with unpredictable clinical evolution and outcome. While most patients recover following a self-limiting, non-severe clinical course, a small proportion progress to severe disease such as dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome. Therefore, it is important to suspect dengue fever in every febrile patient returning from the tropics. Whenever it is suspected, a quick diagnosis and adequate managements are essential to avoid complications. We report two cases of imported dengue fever in Korean children presenting with fever, headache, nausea, and rash.

  • South Korea has been free from endemic malaria by P. vivax since the mid-1980s, but malaria infections, including military outbreak in 1995, have been increasing steadily in the soldiers serving near the western part of Demilitarized Zone(DMZ) since its first resurgence in 1993. We experinced 8 cases of delayed onset P. vivax malaria in young men who had never been abroad and had no history of blood transfusion or parenteral use of drug. All the patients had served near the western part of DMZ during their military life. They were admitted to Yeungnam University hospital due to cyclic fever with chills and the clinical symptoms were developed 2 months to 11months after discharge from military service. Peripheral blood smears showed typical ring forms and trophozoites of P. vivax in red blood cell. Patients were treated with hydroxychloroquine and primaquine showing rapid clinical and hematologic responses in all cases, but 2 cases were relapsed later. We presumed that theses cases were delayed onset of P. vivax infection resulted from the recent outbreak in the western part of DMZ, in 1995. Therefore, we reported theses cases to emphasize the need of active surveillance and prevention.

Transdermal scopolamine which is usually used to prevent motion sickness has anticholinergic property, and so it can induce delirium. The authors report two cases of delirium induced by transdermal scopolamine. The cases shared common characteristics which were as follows : 1. All of two patients were elderly women. 2. Delirium symptom was abruptly occurred during trip after attaching scopolamine patches. 3. Delirium symptom was rapidly improved within 2-3 days. It is important to educate for both users and managers about directions for transdermal scopolamine patch usage to prevent delirium. And careful history taking is needed to diagnose delirium induced by transdermal scopolamine accurately.
